They're right that sleep is critical to sustained high performance practices. I trained and failed to make a D1 T&F team for three years. The summer before, I ensured that I slept at least 9 hours per night and the following season I made the team. My training didn't change much, it was the extra sleep helping me perform at a high level day in and day out building up to making it.

I wonder if there has/have been any athletes who love only hard training and hate games. I think a series of hard trainings may make you develop much stress out of fear or heavy load, which is essential though. You are expected to be tough and be able to play in the game with less load (?) and more control. .....

For those who are wondering why train on the beach, Training at the beach on sand presents a higher intensity of training on its own! Without the ground friction that enables you to propel or accelerate yourself in any direction, you're already at a disadvantage since now you have to work that much harder just to push off the sand without compromising your body mechanics too much. On top of that, now if you throw in exercises to work on sports-specific skills which require constant changes in directions, you're really pushing yourself to another level of training. But the reason why training on sand becomes so useful, is now when you put these athletes back on a smooth or level playing surface, they will be that much more quicker and responsive to stimuli.
