I think one thing that really makes him stand out isn't just that he's rich, but he's able to do so by creating markets and driving competition. EVs weren't taken seriously at all before Tesla made them desirable instead of ultra-utilitarian. Paypal's impact on us all has been enormous. SpaceX has forced potential competitors to step their game up. Did he do all of this alone? No. But probably he was the main driving force. In a world where most rich people are happy to sit back and just collect money cornering the same ol'', Musk is driving forward. The man deserves his recognition.
