Well, at least it didn't go down in flames, that was the other alternative ending.

LOL I remember you remarking on the age and suspect quality of the hose when you fit it..... Must be a pain to be correct all the bloody time :-)

Pretty much every time I've elected to use an aftermarket part on these cars, it's bitten me in the butt. The only time I'll go with aftermarket now, is if it's an emergency replacement, or the OEM/Genuine part is no longer available.

definitely going with genuine hoses now. I mean all of them have gone soft so its a matter of time before the car burns to the ground in reality. It’s exceptionally annoying having to do any job twice but as you say it’s becoming a regular occurrence with aftermarket parts. Some of the hoses are NLA though 🙁

If you think that’s embarrassing my Merc crashed to the floor at the McDonald’s drive through - right in front of the main dining area! I was letting a family over a crossing and suddenly there was a very loud bang accompanied by a cloud of red dust and a spring rolling toward the family. The spring was intact - as where the arms, spring seats and ball joints. Turns out the main frame rails had rusted through under the paint and I had no idea. My car wasn’t in the best condition (I’d only just managed to free the poor thing from a serious diesel bug infection) and has been crashed at least twice in its life before I owned it but that was quite a surprise. It’s a sedan, too, so finding a rolling shell in the UK will be more difficult than the estate version. Love this channel by the way.

wow its very lucky that didn’t happen while driving the car or things could have been much worse. I find my whole ordeal quite humiliating but i’m sure i’ll get over it.

@@MMWA-DAVE haha, yeah I got very lucky as I was on the motorway only a few minutes before! Ahh, don’t worry about it. You cock up, you learn and you live another day :)

Just been looking for more hose options. Aeroflow have a range of high quality hoses, for drag, race and street. Have right sizes and options for Mercs and offer internal coil springs for tight bends, preventing collapse in vacuum situations.

Thank you. So its the petrol hose from tank..

As little as you drive the car maybe you could use the oil cooler taps to install an oil accumulator for nice squishy first starts after long periods of sitting.

The engine sounds great and is smooth at idle. Luckily you discovered the fuel line collapse before a burst!
@MMWA-DAVE2 жыл бұрын
correct- i was running the gauntlet with those hoses and red quite easily couod have been incinerated. Its lucky somewhat the suction line collapsed as its stopped me driving the car now. I was enjoying driving it too much to stop.

Running a bit hotter than it was initially but it was 38C. What temp did it get up to? I still have reservations that the heat exchanger does anything....maybe even restricts flow of oil and or water. I still have the full kit for deletion tucked away for a rainy day.
@MMWA-DAVE2 жыл бұрын
didn’t get any hotter than pictured in the video - remember i have also got the resistor mod so the fans come on at high speed around 95c anyway so thats about as hot as it gets. Good thing you got the non cooler kit as that too is now NLA. Sad sad days ahead for 124 enthusiasts as practically everything is running out.

a lots of parts are nowday junk expecially for those w124, i had problem too with aftermarket clutch hose (ABS) , with trasmission shaft flex disk (OPTIMAL), and in theese day with oil pressure sender (metzgear).. NO MORE CHINESE PARTS IN MY CAR.

Yeah the suction lines are a bit of a pest. I would recommend getting possibly a custom line made up at local engineering shop. Unless you can still but factory line ?
@MMWA-DAVE2 жыл бұрын
that one was locally made at a hose shop like the rest. Going to try getting genuine but several are NLA

@@MMWA-DAVE They must have used some junk. Just glanced at mine, running continental Variflex, Nitrile rubber, 250 psi rated.

@@bobbuilder5362 nice. I am going to order some hoses today after draining most of the tank. That stuff is liquid gold these days so will transfer it to my other w124

@@MMWA-DAVE Just saw you are running Parker hoses, I think these are simply nitrile lined, and use a softer chlorinated polyethylene outer, depends on exactly which hose they used. A full nitrile hose would be better, although not as flexible. I agree with the factory OEM hose, as long as they are original quality and not made to license ? Also old stock can be an issue. Maybe look at the Continental range.
