Something I hadn't considered before watching this video is this: "My own family has been hurt by the darkness of wild magic" It's not just a line. It's true, from a certain point of view. In King's Tide he says he doesn't want to see another human corrupted by the Isles and it's implied he means Caleb. He claims he was scarred by wild magic, and he was, but he doesn't mention that he did it to himself. We know he's a liar and manipulator so it's easy to assume that everything he says is a lie but it's not always. Truths and half-truths are tools for his manipulations. Hollow Mind shows us how close he skirts the truth when manipulating Hunter. He's such a great villain. I want and need to learn how to make a villain as effective.
@magblogs2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that, and Yes he definitely is one of the best villains I have seen from the disney animated series. They did such a great job in constructing his character. They didn't rely on the typical villain monlogue to explain his character. They just allowed it to unfold piece by piece. They allowed us to kind of put things together...... but part of me also wants the villain monologue...lol😂😂😅

I can see non of you have sat across the room from a statesmen/politician;) Belos/Philip is not a manipulator as such for he lets people fear run wild on mere words without resolute purpose & people eat this that we Englishmen often call wiff-waff. What we of old blighty find amazing is how easily people out side the isles of Blight fall for such cobblers. I wouldn't consider Emperor Belos Evil but certainly not a Goodman as like most politicians he is indifferent to the point life holds only the value of what can be gained from sending it to it's slaughter. Look at kings & Politicians sending young men of in the million to die for their interest & agendas in fart away lands? Are you saying every politician is a darker villain then Belos? Belos killed hundreds mainly 200 or more Grimwalkers of Caleb, That is nothing compared to the dead that a real life leader must stand upon their path pathed in the dead. William the conqueror to secure his rightful claim to England in the harrowing of the north he killed 1/2 a million in the 11th century to end any & all rebellions. Look at any leader & few are not surrounded by death for it is often unavoidable but most just don't care about those not in their elite circle. Belos as awful as he is every death serves a purpose to his interests & he doesn't harm those that don't play a role or gets in his way. That makes him preferable to most any Politician for he gained something more then mere land title or riches but longevity greater then 300 years & knowledge of not only his universe but in practice altogether another. Emperor Belos seem pleasant compared to Stalin that killed at least 44 million. Wernher Magnus Maximilian Freiherr von Braun Got man to the moon, made the 1st ICBM & hypersonic cruise missile. He killed far more in the Blitz of London then Emperor Belos in his fiction yet the USA gave this former Nazi citizenship who use to strap Judae people to rocket thrusters for testing the human body. Over 20,000 in force captivity died making V2 rockets under Wernher Magnus Maximilian Freiherr von Braun. People today have no idea what real evil is & are so gullible they would likely vote it into power! I have seen worse evils on my council estate as a nipper then Emperor Belos. Nothing like seeing a child stabbed for loose change or their shoes while the young man that did it wears gold jewllery smiling with mockery. That is fvcking Evil! I have no idea to this day if any of that scum were ever caught much less punished! That is the world we live in far worse then anything Disney can think up.

He plays god. Like a character. Saying he knows the will of what is essentially God or just the Titan sound reminiscent of real people saying it's "not in God's will". He's using a real manipulation method that would work on more religious people. Seeing as the witches kinda saw the Titan as a god, they would fall into this same trap. I never saw this similarity until now. It shows the kind of evil Belos is. Using people's own beliefs as a weapon against them.

Everything you said here is why I love manipulative villains. They can also be a reflection of how people in real life can be like. It doesn’t have to be a religious context, but in general, and the fact that it can occur anywhere makes villains like these scarier

Belos is such a master manipulator that he was able to make lilith curse eda while belos isnt even there he was able to moraly break luz making her traumatized that luz helped make belos emperor and he was able to manipulate hunter to make him do his dirty work and when he found out about the grimwalkers belos was ready to kill him belos was able to manipulate people for years past and present even when hes not there your always being manipulated luz for example was manipulated into finding about philip and looking up to him and when luz helps philip make contact with the collector and luz was able to make belos emperor without her even realising it and when belos reveals that he is philip luz is devastated and moraly shattered. Even when you think your doing the right thing to stop belos in reality your just playing right into his hands he makes you think that your doing the right thing but he orchestrated it and in the end he will leave you broken and he will get what he wants no matter what and he makes you think that you can trust him he makes you think that he will give you paradise but no one truly knows it in reality emperor bellos as a figurehead is just a shell of the true belos and the true belos can hide himself so well that no one would even question to know hes just that manipulative you think you know him as a good emperor but in reality hes just a master manipulator hes that good and for him the people of the boiling isles play right into his hands without realising it just like luz you never know the true belos and by the time you do it would be too late........

Hollow Mind is definitely 100% a masterpiece. It also came out on my birthday last year 😊. No doubt, the darkest episode of The Owl House. It was like psychological horror for Luz and Hunter. I genuinely wanted to crawl through the screen and give Luz and Hunter a hug 😔. But seriously, everything in Hollow Mind form start to finish is absolutely amazing. The way they told 2 stories at the same time, the main one on screen with Luz and Hunter going through Belos's mind, and Belos's backstory with his older brother in the paintings, amazing storytelling. The way the paintings throughout the episode just get darker by the end, when you find out that Belos/Philip killed his brother. When we find out what the sigil's are really meant for/what the Day of Unity really is, and finding the hallway of all the Grimwalkers that Belos's made of his brother, then murdered when they didn't live up to his expectations/standards 😔. The way Hunter goes from being happy and feels proud about being the Golden Guard, to completely traumatized after learning the truth about his life and identity being a lie is incredibly sad 😔, then him realizing that Belos might kill him if he returns to the castle in a panic attack, which was just heartbreaking to watch, this poor boy. Luz realizing that Belos is Philip, and that she helped him by accident was also heartbreaking to watch her breakdown. This episode was really dark and intense. 10/10 episode. I also want to congratulate the voice actor's because they did an incredible job. Hunter's voice actor (Zeno Robinson) really delivered that panic attack at the end of the episode.

You seriously deserve A LOT more attention for what you've done with this video, cause 1. your editing is awesome and I wish mine was a good as this (probably cause I just use DaVinci resolve lol), and 2. you actually dive into terms directly relating to the study of psychology. I thought/felt like I was doing that a lot with my video discussing this topic, but man, the way you describe it all makes it sound educational, factual, like you're actually teaching something, and overall made it feel like you put the way I talked about it to shame lol, incredible work man!

@@magblogs Oh dang, I guess I just have a lot less experience in the software lol. But yeah, you mostly talked about how exactly Belos made his manipulation work and the way you cover it was incredible, I just majorly went over how exactly he was able to do it towards all the characters, despite their different experiences and backgrounds, and have it all gear towards the same outcome, him getting his way to kill witch-kind, both of which are very vital to what makes his character so interesting. I'm really not into psychology or anything of the sorts like you seem to be, I'm just a wannabe writer that enjoys those details lol, still, really great video you've made going over him!

His childhood, his motivation and also the reason for making the Grimwalkers, for detailing his own mask after his childhood one and why he was so willing to do whatever it takes to make sure no Witches and Demons will ever live again. And also how Emperor Belos is not just a Puppet Master but he is also a Puppet of himself as well. Maybe you can also link Philip to Jacob Hopkins in a part of the video. Anyways, these are just my own thoughts. You don't really have to make a sequel but it could also be good to show the other sides. The more complex sides of his character.

I have a potential theory for "The Owl House," could Luz (and humans in general) possibly be something of an amplifier for magic cast by witches? The reason I bring this up is because some of the most impressive feats (outside of Eda's) were performed with Luz either being directly involved or in close proximity to the spell being cast. Do you find this theory plausible or am I just finding something where there is nothing?
