We visit Warburtons to see how they produce 36,000 crumpets an hour. The company is the UK's largest crumpet producer and Europe's largest bakery, producing around 800,000 packets of crumpets a year. We took a tour of the factory to see how the popular British cuisine is made. Is it bread? Is it a pancake? Is toast? Watch the making of process to see what goes into these spongy breakfast treats.

Mate you need to toast these things or they’re like glue in the mouth. Whack your toaster onto it’s max setting and these things come out crispy on the outside and soft inside. Slather with butter and they’re delicious. I cannot emphasise how bad a poorly toasted crumpet is but how excellent a well toasted on is. Should be crispy on the top and bottom.

Lol. Yes, basically eating a raw crumpet, whatever the company says. It should be piping hot from the toaster and golden, crispy, crunchy top and bottom with a steaming centre absorbing the butter. I also put cream cheese on sometimes.

For anyone wondering about crumpets: Not toasted- very firm and not as tasty. The texture is similar to a day old thick crepe and the taste is very slightly sour (like sourdough). Toasted with butter- texture is spongy and soaked with butter throughout the bread (a little goes along way), with a crispy bottom that keeps everything in. Taste is slightly sourdoughy but mellowed out by the butter and any other sauces such as honey/marmite/jam etc. Imagine a toast soaked in butter but still firm and not greasy. That is how the crumpet do.

1. a pair into a toaster and heated like bread.... when they pop out of the toaster, whilst still hot, a smear of butter then another of honey. 2. proceed to nibble off the firmer edge of the base all the way around, which gives the honey and butter time to melt down into the holes. 3. then, munch through the hot buttery honey flavoured centre thats like soft bread but with a bit of texture given by the structure of the air holes in the dough.

But this is easier and cheaper to buy but don't taste as good. They were actually made by vendors on the streets during Victorian times.

Somehow the texture just like "apem" in indonesia. But here, we dont packed it plastics, we just use banana leaves. Somehow. Similar but it might b different
@calum5975
@calum5975 4 жыл бұрын
Apem are popular in India and Sri-Lanka too, they actually originated there. As for the banana leaves, that's cool but these are manufactured for the whole UK, you simply can't package them and keep them fresh on store shelves for a week without some form of plastic packaging, hopefully they can make it biodegradable but it's still not ideal.

Okay, the “you don’t have to toast it” bit is ABSOLUTELY INSANE. Toast them! Crisp base, ever-so-slightly brown on top (or a light crisp). Untoasted is just wrong and evil. Best served: 1) Drown it in butter so when you crunch into it it’s like biting into a big buttery sponge that oozes butter everywhere (warning: can be messy). 2) A light spread of butter followed by a good spread of marmite. Best when piping hot as runny marmite seeps through :D
