The clip of the professor was perfect. Before I knew better I used a Smith's pull through sharpener, and it was evil I have only had stitches once in my life and it was because a knife stuck in the sharpener while I was using it, i used more force to get it to move, i slipped and got myself with the knife the knife was still dull.

Cedric & Ada Gear and Outdoors yeah I’ve got it as well. They sent me their whole line about 2 years ago. I use it for big stuff and shaping. Been using wet stones most lately but I used that little guided sharpener for prob 6 months doing jobs on the side. Lol. The KOWSP is a good tool especially with the blade grinding attachment. I’ve used that as a small belt sander for a lot of projects. I’m not promoting them. Just like their stuff. So I had the ken onion I bought and another. I asked for a BGA loaner to try and just sent me all their stuff!. Was pretty happy about that.

Jimmy Jim you def need to always check the heat of the blade. They generally don’t get hot unless you go crazy. I use it now mostly for axes, huge pizza cutters and removing a lot of metal. It takes a lot to get it that hot and shouldn’t run it that fast anyway. I can see it happening or possible but I do brief strokes and if gets warm just take a break. Mostly I use the diamond plate guided sharpener and wet stones for daily use and strops. I don’t like the quality or size of strop blocks out there so I invested and got best quality everything.. building my own now. Making 5 8” x 3” blocks with maple and top grain this week. I wanted one for myself but decided just to make several as gifts and sell some. Have to run and get the lumbar tomorrow. Got into a tangent sorry... lol

You guys are talking about that thing that had rows of disks and sounded like a shook tambourine? Knife rippers. My grandfather had one. I’ve learned to use the carbide ones extremely lightly and very little before ceramic sticks to correct tiny chips on a leatherman wave. I use it to strip wire at work.

your videos are getting constantly better and better. Video techniques, funny parts, and contents. Thx These pull through evils make toothy edges not good for paper or any fine task, but not so bad for meat/very amateur kitchen butchering. Only for knives up to 30$ and only using the ceramic sides.

Hey man, I'm digging this series! One you may want to consider is the Chef'sChoice 463 Diamond sharpener. I use it for my kitchen knives and it puts a on a very workable toothy edge, probably around 600 grit if I had to guess, at around 17 degrees. Just make sure you follow the directions and do a push and a pull (sawing motion) not just a straight drag through.

Not a horrible tool in a pinch in the field when you can't find a stone. Definitely not something I would use all the time, but for a once in a long while edge, I guess it's okay. These things will ruin the blade if you use them all the time. Stones have been the best since man first pounded steel.

You never did a ripple test. These cheapo sharpeners sometimes create a jagged ripple on edge. You can catch it if you look or even listen as you sharpen. Just look at your work from time to time. Rippled edges create a feedback loop and must be stopped with a change of technic to correct. It’s wonky and more of art than a science. You need to feel the blade as you’re sharpening.
