This video is perfect. I am so illiterate when it comes to taxes and insurance and really anything along those lines but this gave me a good framework to build off of. This is what I gathered from the video (please anyone correct me if I'm wrong). 1. You need to assess the market and make sure there is a need for window washers. 2. Get door hangers and business cards and hit the streets running. Focus on marketing (web domain, use googles features such as gmail and voice). 3. Start as a solo proprietorship 4.Register your "DBA" 4. As you get more customers you should get liability insurance. 5. Before you hire someone register as an LLC and get workers comp. Anything I'm missing for the startup process?

Man, that is some good advice. I am in my 4th year and I am busting at the seams. I work every weekend and my regular job during the week. My day job pays well, so I don't want to quit, but I still want to continue to grow my window cleaning business. My next step is an LLC or sole proprietorship.

But if most houses already have a window cleaner how do you compete (other than lowering price). Let’s be honest most houses are already covered by another window cleaners patch. Any advice?
@HeathenFPS Жыл бұрын
I’m confused by the whole domain ordeal. Is a domain the same as your website?
@firstname6208 Жыл бұрын
Typically figure out your name, then see if it's already used. You must buy the name (register) it. Then you can build a website using that name. You don't want a name too close to another, it causes confusion.

Edit: just as an afterthought Max, in a previous video where you were helping your girlfriend start a cleaning business you both mentioned putting mints on the pillow to add that extra value to a customer's life. What little things would you add to a window cleaning job to bring your service to the next level?

Off the top of my head I'd do random courteous things like taking the empty trash can in for them if it's on the street or cleaning little windows free they didn't ask for (like on a garage door windows maybe)

Hey . Wanted to get your opinion regarding starting a brand new window cleaning / house detailing business or buying a franchise. Love to know your thoughts. Thanks for all the info
@MaxMaher5 жыл бұрын
Sure. Whether or not to franchise comes down to your persnality. If you're very entrepreneurial I'd say there's no need to franchise. But if you want all the systems and processes laid out for you with a more clear cut path then go with franchising.
@peymang9665 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. I have a decent franchise opportunity but im really thinking I can build my own business simolar to their business mode that works but make slight adjustments to make it better or different per say. But im having a difficult time making the desicion. Any suggestions?
@parkercushingable4 жыл бұрын
@@peymang966 just my two cents but I've seen a window cleaning franchise company go out of business TWICE in my area. They can't compete with the self employed guys in the area.

Hey guys I built a pretty decent size side hustle window cleaning business back in Pennsylvania. I have since moved across the country and I'm ready to do it again but the right way and way more aggressive. I have a full-time career but I'm starting all over in my 30s. What are your thoughts on going back to square one and what is a realistic annual target number for sales in the first year being very aggressive?

Many of the home service businesses are recession-resistant but it'd be hard to say anything is truly recession proof. When it comes to recessions the best ran businesses thrive. So the surest way to survive a recession is run a high quality operation.

@@MaxMaher just seems like on a platform like craigslist where most likely is where a business like this would be posting, some guy who is probably a hard worker is going to want to work now wine it's more of a gig platform or temp work platform. I feel they may skip right past it cause it looks scammy or seems like a waste of time for a low IQ job. Example I work for a junk removal company l, he hired a guy using this method and dude on questionare looks good, but ended up falling asleep in truck otw to dump, and being a flake. I feel like flakey weirdos are more likely to fill out a questionare or quiz cause it's probably only job they can get. Where another guy who prob has skills like construction or labor which would translate a lot better then Flaky Sam who has only worked as McDonald's... Maybe I am biased from this experience, but I feel like poaching goodemployees like you said is way more viable.. Thanks for al the info tho I really appreciate it, just did our first $300 house last week!
