If you genuinely think that someone who has decided to modify their body through piercings and tattoos is less attractive and less intelligent, than you are truly the one who is less attractive and intelligent. If you fail to see that the character of a person is infinitely more complicated than their aesthetic, than you are seeing life through tunnel vision, and I would encourage you to widen your outlook on life.

Amber Hutchings, be careful with absolutes. Some of us get piercings because it is a projection of our energy. I could care less if I attract people based off of my appearance. I attract and love myself, so much so that I am happy and in love without even being in a relationship. And that's what really attracts people; not clothes, tattoos, or piercings. That lesson was free 🙌💪. Peace be with you.

In terms of attractiveness, It's all context and execution. How does the person dress overall? Do the piercings fit the rest of the person's style? Is the jewelry the right shape/size/color for the person? Is the piercing well placed or wishful thinking. When it's right, you know it. Similarly, is the person hygienic? Well groomed? Over the top or elegantly understated? When these things are in balance with any piercings & tattoos-- lifestyle, fashion sense, grooming-- it can look amazing (see: David Beckham and a million instagram models). When it's poorly done, it just highlights a person's lack of social acuity and self awareness. Obviously, going for a balance of elegance and edge works well. Then again, piercings are a form of *signaling*. You're demonstrating a set of values and a culture that you belong to when you wear them. If you're signaling a set of values that are different than the person who is looking at you, you will be judged and often as unintelligent. But that's the whole point of signaling: to draw a sharp line about which people you belong to, and which you do not. If anybody is confused about why they're getting slack for sending a clear signal that they don't fit in, then they need to slow down and really take control of who they are and how they want to be seen, and to take full responsibility for the responses they get.

I'm sure the body modification community doesn't modify themselves for the approval of the unmodified. It greatly depends on how attractive the person is without piercings. If a person is unattractive without piercings, there's a large chance they are going to be perceived as unattractive with piercings. Piercings can also make people more attractive as it highlights areas of the body. If a person has shapely lips, a medusa piercing is going to emphasise that. If piercings weren't attractive, their popularity would be on the decline. The size of the piercing is important as well. A smaller gauge is sexy/cute when it comes to septum piercings. A larger gauge is boisterous and crude. The positioning is another important factor. Again with septum, higher positionings are more attractive than lower ones. With stretched ears, smaller 6mm gauges are more attractive than larger 40mm gauges. None of this is being taken into consideration into the video. It is clear Antonio had already formulated an opinion prior to reading the study and his bias is showing.
@YoshiSeal3 жыл бұрын

Back in uni i had a very young professor who was obviously a metalhead with like 8 or so piercings in each ear. Dude was one of the most attractive men i have ever saw and he didn't even had to try. That being said, when it comes to multiple piercings, to me they look worse IF the person wearing them has different kinds all mixed up. If someone is into rainbow crystals and all of those are set in silver for example, that looks cute as hell. But if a person has a silver ring in eyebrow, black snake bite cones, neon pink ball bar in the ear and a golden flower on the side of the nose, that shit is eclectic as hell, doesn't match in materials nor colours nor shape and it looks awful.

The thing is, if you care so much about what people think of your tattoos and piercings, you should't get them. I couldn't care less if some people are so stupid that they would come up with all these things based on my tattoos etc.
@sadishappy029 жыл бұрын
I loved my piercings (ears and eyebrow), but when I transitioned into running my own business I had a mentor ask me, "Do you want your piercings or do you want to be successful?" He understood I could be successful with the hardware, but his point was exactly what Antonio is talking about. Someday I'll get them again, but in the meantime, I'm still me - only more successful. And if I need to have an edgier look, I just roll up my sleeves and show my tattoos!

I think there are fewer things more unattractive and repulsive for both men and women than piercings. I don’t think anyone should get one. I just can’t imagine growing into an old man with thirty something piercings through your body.

***** Arjun, I agree with you that the tie distracts from what is otherwise a great look. But, I think that it is because the knot is not as neat as it could be and the tails, between the knot and the collar, are folded. It would look better with a shirt with less of a spread collar and maybe a smaller, neater knot. Antonio, the pocket square is spectacular and the jacket makes me want to toss my wardrobe and start over again. My pocket squares are far nicer now than when I started following your advice several years ago but I would love to know where I can find one like that.

+Real Men Real Style Hey Antonio, just a quick suggestion... I reckon it would be awesome if when you posted a video, gave links to the clothing in the video, it seems as though others would love to look into the items (especially the pocket square in this one, magnificent!). P.S. Your best outfit in my opinion looks spectacular. Also what trousers would you/were you wearing with this combination?

I live in California specifically Los Angeles. Tattoos and piercings are well accepted here by employers and most people . A lot of it has to do with the political climate also . I use to work for a company that wouldn’t allow men to have long hair but then California passed a law protecting individuals from discrimination when it came to hairstyle in the work place. I guess if you live in a more conservative area perceptions may change as oppose to living in a more liberal area and it sucks that I have to bring up politics because I hate politics but it’s all plays a role .

Piercings are basically a gamble. I used to have a lot of piercings and it kind off helped me, because I was always surprising conservative people by being a lot intelligent and polite than they were expecting. So, if like me you are the best in your field and smart (I'm speaking like Mensa level, not your mother told you so) it will be usefull to break pre conceived images about you. But if you are not so smart and kind off average, it's a big gamble. But I may be an exception case, because my piercings were ritualics from my native american background and my scholarisation reputation is quite high.

There are always exceptions to the rule. I want to talk about the former Secretary of the Treasury in Sweden Mr Anders Borg. He was known for two things, his ponytail and his earring and no he was actually not on the left side of the political map but rather on the right, on the conservative side. His work with the swedish economy during several really hard years globally and in Europe made him to be a most valueable and highly praised Secretary of the Treasury world wide. After his career in the goverment he had had several important jobs in economy. I have never had the chance to meet him myself but I have seen him speak and I know several people who has meet him who found him a really intelligent person.

If you're good at something people will tend to respect you regardless of your physical appearance. There are plenty of intelligent and charismatic individuals who look more eccentric. These individuals shatter the stereotype that having a less conservative look sets you up for failure; this simply isn't true.

One thing that I have noticed about people who get multiple piercings, facial tattoos, etc., is that they think it is cool to look different, but they get upset when people treat them differently. Apparently they are free to look like freaks, but we are not free to call them freaks.

Don't really care, I'm proud of my piercings. If you don't like me because of them, i don't like you. It also REALLY depends on what jewelery you use, like, colors, type of shaft, do you use studs, balls or other things etc. I think if you look less intelligent with piercings, you probably do without them as well. I might be wrong about what I'm going to write next. The reason some people look less intelligent is because their face is asymmetrical enough for you to notice.

I am a middle aged professional black American man. I will give it to you plain: most upwardly mobile men of means would never take a person with that crap in their nose home to meet the parents, period! The same thing goes for gauges and visible head or neck tattoos! I have had two coworkers with those, both of them were smart people and generally attractive, but to me the rings made them look like clowns.
