Nice use of a card plot- I'd add that always handle cards as casually as possible (no fancy shuffles at all) when doing mentalism), the idea of handing out groups of cards for different spectators to shuffle would be a lovely "hands off" mix. If doing magicican's choice it's good to ask the volunteer to pick up a card- you then direct it appropriately. This would make a great "psychological influence" plot. It could also be used in a "dead and alive" bizarre plot with pictures of people with the words below.

I feel the initial story could be improved. Something like this: "We're going to do a mind reading trick and think of a card", card trick ensues, then at the reveal, "What card were YOU thinking of?" If you nail it job done, if not "At the beginning I said we are going to do a mind reading trick, but I didn't say who was going to do the reading. I was thinking of the [says card]", turn them over and boom.

3:44 Argh, it's the same as many other card tricks. He keeps a block of identical cards on the bottom to trick-deal them to you, then when you "free choice" pick a suit/symbol, if it matches what you said, he can say "ha! there, I dealt you all of the same symbol you said", and if it doesn't match, he can say "ha! tehre,I dealt you you all the same card, NONE of which are the one you said". It's like when you say "you picked 5, so we'll deal 5 cards and the 5th card is your card" or "you picked 5, so we'll discard 5 cards and the next card is your card", it's binary (is or isn't), and you can make it work either way by just flipping your answer. Once you see this done numerous times in different ways, it becomes obvious (and also less amusing 😕). 5:35 Even better; getting lucky with bits like this where it actually doesn't make a difference, you can add some extra "choice" since it doesn't matter, and you can even mix in some extra flair to make it seem like it's _really_ "random" by for example, having them flip a coin into the audience and passing it around a bit and so on to make it like the magician has ZERO control over that part. This makes people really confounded because even if they can explain some parts of the trick, they get stuck trying to explain this extravagant part, not realizing the answer simple: it didn't matter, it's idempotent, like adding zero or multiplying by 1. 😉 6:06 Is the "Texas sharpshooter fallacy" the official (or at least de-facto) term for this concept in magic? As I said, I've seen it many times, so it would be useful if there were a consensus on a term to use for it. (For the record, I'm not sure that term really applies, Texas-sharpshooter isn't really the same as what's happening here, in the former case, they're modifying the target post-hoc, in the latter case, they're pre-planning a catch-all answer, they're similar but different.)

Brian says 4? As he lays down 5
@charliejoseph64652 жыл бұрын
But how did he get Brian to say the cross?
@holgerchristiansen40032 жыл бұрын
Pure coincidence. It wasn't part of the trick at all. Brian could have chosen any four cards, which may or may not contain any specific symbol. His choice of symbol is a fake one, too. If he chose "waves", the trick would have looked even better. Since he didn't, the cop out was that the magician "chose" waves and Brian was the one actually mind reading.
