I find out how far a 2009 Audi A3 Cabriolet (8P) go on an empty tank of fuel when the trip computer is reading 0 miles remaining.
This car has the first generation EA888 1.8 turbo petrol engine.
Part of the car care and ownership series.

If you're on the freeway and your car gets good gas mileage you can go pretty far. I've pushed my car almost 55 miles. It was one of those broke weeks

I was left out of LPG many times, it gradually starts to lose power when gas pedal is floored and finally with every small bit of pedal push it just wants to die due to too lean mixture (trottle opens for taking more air but there is no fuel for reaching proper mixture). Fortunatelly there is petrol on a button switch always available haha.

Why my A3 1.4tfsi 2012 (8P) showing differently. I put 5L of fuel on completely empty tank (car stopped completely) and it showing 40km or 25miles and the fuel gauge needle is in-between to red marks. Previous owner did change the fuel pump sender in the tank by audi dealer. Did you replaced yours also or is still original one? The readings suppose to be same with these both 8P models. Both car has 55L capacity fuel tank. I'm lost........

These videos you have made are the best videos I have found, you should have way more viewers than you do have, I would really like to see a video about moving slowly in a carpark as I find it really hard to juggle clutch brake and gas when trying to do those real slow speeds to park etc.. and I'm generally just unsure on what I should be doing tbh. Do you use the gas to dictate speed? do you use the clutch to dictate speed and keep a constant 1500 revs? what about if I need to brake because im going too fast? so confusing.. What about slightly uphill also? same way of dealing with things?
@ConquerDriving
@ConquerDriving 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) At low speeds (less than 5mph) on a flat and uphill you use the clutch to dictate speed and maintain a small amount gas. Clutch up slightly to increase speed and down to decrease speed. If pushing the clutch down doesn't slow you down enough you will need to brake whilst keeping the clutch down. When you're staying slow downhill you keep the clutch down and use the brake to control your speed for slow moving.

@@ConquerDriving Thanks so much, I have already passed my test but was using a diesel and the way my instructer taught me was to just use the clutch and now I have a petrol car it feels as though I can't drive because if I don't use the gas, I'm stalling.. so I havn't actually driven yet apart from around a parking lot and I'm scared as hell to get out on the roads, I don't know if I trust myself and if I can do it, even though I have passed my test.
@ConquerDriving
@ConquerDriving 4 жыл бұрын
@@jamief6507 Well done on passing your test! That is the problem with teaching people to use only the clutch when starting, it will make your driving instructors clutch last longer but it won't teach you the delicate balance of gas and clutch which is needed for fast starts or driving old cars. I recommend going out when it's quiet, try practising holding the gas steady when you car is parked and get good and getting the gas to where you want it to be in a short time. When lifting the clutch with the gas it's more important to hold the clutch steady (3-4 seconds) at the bite point then the gas can catch up with the clutch and you will move smoothly. Don't continuous come off the clutch without pausing. You will still accelerate as you hold the clutch on the bite point as that's what it's designed to do.

Hi pal great stuff as always !!! Right I have a bmw 1 series 120d 2.0 diesel automatic … it starts giving me fuel warning when it reaches to 40 miles maximum range … I never wait till it literally dies on me … today it shows 21 miles …. Whats your advice … would it still be going after it shows 0 miles like this Audi did….? I am just new to all this so have no clue … but I literally wanna know how many miles my car gives on a full tank…. So any idea …? Like how many miles my car would do… or would It still be going after it shows 0 miles left like your Audi? If all cars work the same way ….?

All cars are different but most go for a bit after 0 miles. It's really important not to let a diesel run out of fuel so don't test it.

2:40 saab 93 goes from digital to analogue heater (from say 21c to 0-10) and will turn the air con compressor off too to save fuel Also the roof takes up space in the boot, so there are little lasers to see if any luggage obstructs the area... All good, until it goes wrong😂 2.0T 210hp, mated to a horrid 5 speed auto slushbox got 25mpg since the gearbox just slips and never really decides and locks up, the manual one gets around 35mpg and is 2 seconds faster to 60.. A lot better!

Older torque convertor autos do use more fuel around town. But they're more comfortable and I prefer them to dual clutch and single clutch robotised autos as the clutch engagement isn't always smooth. CVT are very efficient, smooth and accelerate quickly to low speeds but sound annoying. So in an everyday car that I don't intend to drive enthusiastically the torque convertor or CVT win for me. If I want a sporty drive I'm only really interested in manual.

In my Honda Civic 1.6 diesel, I can do 100 miles on the motorway after I get to "0 miles", and almost 1000 miles out of a 50 litre tank.

@@ConquerDriving It's true, amazing mileage is possible when it's not a VW group car. I reset my odometer at every refuel and get about 800-900 with about 6 litres left in the tank (I manage to get in about 44 litres at the pump). I've driven 3,500 miles in the last 8 days of motorway driving. I have the feeling you've never had a Civic 1.6 diesel, I bought the 1.7 diesel (2005) and fell in love with the economy. This 2013 engine is badged Earth Dreams because of how good it is on fuel 😍 The closer to 55mph in 6th gear is better like most cars.

do you have an idea as to how long (in minutes or hours) it would take an engine in idle only (not moving, in neutral) to consume 1 liter of gas?
@ConquerDriving
@ConquerDriving 3 жыл бұрын
Varies greatly from car to car. Diesels used very little at idle before DPFs were compulsory, now they will break if left to idle. Go with around 1 litre an hour in a 4 cylinder petrol. Cylinders count for more than size when it comes to fuel consumption.
