Based on the translation of the lyrics and diary entries, the final entry "I became a butterfly", means she's committed suicide. Each chorus when she envisions herself as a butterfly she's surrounded by either chairs or shoes, both are often associated with suicide. She also had a vase appear on her desk after napping, which is normally used to pay respect to the dead student that occupied that desk. So everytime she sees herself as a butterfly she's basically wishing to be dead, to be free and always dreaming, because that's the only way she can live up to her own "abnormal" expectations. She's always sleeping, the diary entries note her wanting to sleep constantly, so that she could be noticed and loved in her dreams by the classmate she's obsessed with. Its pretty sad and a representationof the stresses in Japanese culture to be perfect and exceptional. It may seem like she's not caring about what others think, and that she eventually accepts herself, but she's actually desperate to be "abnormal" (perfect), so much so that she ends up accepting that being alive means she won't be ever be perfect (this is why she leaves the mirror dirty towards the end), and instead kills herself, to be an everlasting abnormal butterfly.

Had an argument with someone that doesn’t understand work/school culture in Japan a few days ago and this upload reminded me of that. Unfortunately the whole situation is a lot harder in Japan. Fail or don’t copy everyone else? Shunned, excluded. So many songs talk about this topic as well. Lost ones weeping by Neru Biter choco decoration by Syudou USSEEWA by Ado and Syudou (who composed the song) Egoist by Oonuma Paseri And of course Abnormally Dancing Girl by Guichiry And probably many more. The flower vase was DEFINITELY a massive foreshadowing for mene's death because mene says "I'll become a butterfly" is a metaphor for suicide at the end it dosent really show mene committing suicide it just shows another version of her in transparent clothing on a stage dressed like a butterfly and mene looking at the version of herself on stage in horror I guess that was supposed to show the outcome of her death some how ik her death is implied but I'm not sure if that's supposed to represent suicide or death but that's what I think I also absolutely love how mene just snaps and the facial expressions are absolutely great it really captures strong emotions and thats what I love about abnormality dancing girl the characters,art,facial expressions,the tunning and music. Edit: I think I figured out why there's another version of mene on a stage now take this with a massive grain of salt sense I'm not the one who made the characters or song but I think the other version of mene is actually the outcome of her becoming abnormal sense she said "dress me in transparent clothing" and "I'll become a butterfly" I don't think that was supposed represent death or suicide at all I was being dumb lol-

Well there were chairs, shoes and purple butterflies in the video, primarily with the courses along with the fact that putting a flower on someone’s desk while they’re alive typically means you want them to off themselves (purple butterfly symbolize stuff, she was on a rooftop are often associated with people jumping off the roof, chairs are self-explanatory.) It is actually pretty likely that she did commit by the end of the video, especially considering the clothing she’s wearing makes her look like a purple butterfly as you stated. Another interesting details that when the abnormality “consumes” her, her bangs go from an x to being straight. I don’t know what this might symbolize but from the chairs, shoes, flower vase on the desk and purple butterflies, you might’ve then right prior to the edit.

I’m pretty sure it represents death but it represents perfection more, and Mene (the purple-haired girl) wants to be perfect so she’s noticed. This song really reminded me of the "not like other girls" girls. A lot of people are terrified of being a stereotype, I think mostly because we put a lot of importance in "being yourself" which we subconsciously interpret as "being like other people is bad". having things in common with other people doesn't mean your not unique. Sometimes we throw away pieces of ourselves while trying to be different from everyone else and trick ourselves into thinking, "This is who I truly am." When it comes to "not like other girls" girls, they always compare themselves to "Girly-girls". That term sounds unnatural and repetitive and over all like "too much" sort of like when you call an outfit that uses a lot of the same color "matchy-matchy". It invokes those same feelings and makes it seem like a girl that dresses more feminine is unnatural, plastic, fake, or Barbie doll like. Up until a few years ago I myself was headed towards becoming a "not like other girls" girl. When I was younger all I wore were leggings and t-shirts with a pair of sneakers. I would call myself a "Tom-boy" because I didn't care about fashion, but that wasn't really true. I was always so jealous of the girls in my class who wore pretty skirts and dresses. Then my family moved from a very cold weather area to a very warm weather area and I finally got my first phone along with access to the internet, where I discovered both historical and lolita fashion along with other alternative fashions. That, accompanied by the necessary wardrobe change allowed me to freely experiment with more feminine clothing and I realized that dressing differently from other girls could go both ways (more masculine or more feminine). Now of course I know that being different, and "being me" aren't the same.

For some people it can be crushing to know that your just a “stereotype”, a cliche, something people can see anywhere else Fitting in a role that people assume is “everywhere” can feel like someone is saying “your existence is meaningless, because I can find it in any other place”. A good example is OP saying the whole “not like other girls” thing. Girls seeing a stereotype of themselves can make them scared to be anything like that, and can drive them to the fear of normality, or the fear of being a “stereotype”. I completely agree. I used to not mind wearing dresses and skirts and I wore them a lot but in public school I was literally bullied for being “too girly” because I did not want to play sports with the other kids and once I got my own device, I saw tons of people talking about not wanting to be like those girly girls who are like plastic Barbie dolls and being a tomboy seemed to be more praised so I stopped wearing anything that was too girly, I complained about wearing dresses and started hating pink, I stopped wearing earrings and talked negatively of anyone who wore makeup. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized there’s nothing wrong with being girly and I shouldn’t feel like I need to change who I am just so that I don’t get bullied or left out. I still don’t wear jewelry or makeup but I’ve started wearing more dresses and headbands which aren’t too girly-ish but I still really like them and find them to be pretty cute. I’m a lot more comfortable now that I’m home schooled and don’t have other kids judging me constantly and I don’t watch videos that shame people for the things they like and avoid negative comments and videos because all they do is pollute your mind

A lot of people say that the chairs and shoes mean she committed suicide, but I think it's something else. Those are associated eith suicide, but notice how they are *facing her* when she sings "look at me now". I think it means she wants so much attention it kills her. The flowers on her desk could mean she died, but I think it's more like, her wanting the attention eventually "killed" her, as in, she no longer knew how to be her past self anymore because she was so fixated on being herself yet abnormal. It's implied she actually did commit suicide in the end but I prefer thinking my theory is correct. I also think her wanting to be butterfly means she wants to be perfect, in the centre but not be seen as normal because the butterflies are I think purple and I don't know if such exist. She says "I saw a butterfly, I became a butterfly" I think it means she saw a girl that was different yet perfect and became obssesed with being like her. She claims she feel nothing once. I think that all the death symbolism is about how she feels rather than what she did - she feels dead inside. She think loosing normality and becoming the centre will fix it but it didn't, so she became broken. She became a butterfly, who couldn't fly. A broken one, that people feel bad for but forget when they see a healthy one.

I have a small theory on the main scenes of her losing her mind. From 4:18 to 4:35 you can see pairs of shoes surrounding her, put neatly together. From the years of watching vocaloid and understanding Japanese culture, I think those shoes were meant to symbolize that either a.) she wants those shoes to be filled with people, getting all the attention- or b.) she was gonna commit suicide, which would make the flower on her desk make much more sense. It’s just a theory but I think the uncertainty of it makes the video more enjoyable! (Great analysis by the way! From my understanding the flower vase does mean to pay respects to someone who has died, and also, the re-occurring theme of butterflies does mean something as well. In the song, to become a butterfly is basically another way of committing suicide. She only ever gets average grades and so when she sees this other girl getting great grades without even trying she finds it abnormal and so she starts trying to be more and more abnormal as well, falling in love with that girl at the same time. This goes on for a while until one day she realises she'll never be like/with that girl and she ends her life.

The cut from her sitting at her desk to flowers on her desk symbolize her death, but her talking about restarting life is her saying she is going to kill herself. Butterflies aswell are often associated with suicide, and also a fun little note when she talks about becoming a butterfly the lyrics are shaped like a butterfly, and she’s surrounded my chairs, which is associated with suicide because you need a chair to hang yourself, and she was also surrounding by shoes, which in Japan it’s a common thing when before someone kill themself they take off their shoes and leave it on the rooftop. She believed the blonde girl was so perfect to the point of abnormality, wanting to become abnormal herself, falling in love with “abnormality” in the process, and she snaps when she sees the blonde girl dancing with someone. She becomes obsessed with changing herself and becoming abnormal, and her last diary entry, which were the words on the screen says, “I became a butterfly”, meaning she committed suicide.

Listened to this song once, mainly just vibed to it, second time, did the whole metamorphosis butterfly theory with my own eyes, watched this, it added on elements that I never payed much attention too, and along with that actually got me to read the lyrics (cause i didn’t find the english sub version before) I would have to say yeah it is definitely a thing on feeling less than someone else, in this case, [Redacted]. Redacted is the butterfly that our dear caterpillar wants to become, so she mimics her, someone who she saw as perfect, but from an outside perspective was nothing more that selfish person as she got everyone to do a school play with herself as the only real character, and because our Caterpillar seemed to both envy and idolize her, it would led to the higher form of Abnormality achieved. Near the end of the diary, her sanity is gone entirely it seems specifically when the line “the beautiful me” was written and at that point, she only descends further into her madness, repeating for people to look at her, for them to shut up, then to end its with seeing a butterfly, and becoming a butterfly… ANYWAYS NEW SUB CAUSE LOVE THEORIZING, thanks for reading my ted talk, or not (tldr: correct theory which only expands more the more of the diary entries you read, first watch its easy to come up with butterfly metamorphosis but a bit harder to catch on to those other beats without a helping hand or lyric translations)

I know this was 2 weeks ago but.. I'm really impressed that someone knows that much in music videos. Because as a person who actually RELATES to this song, it's amazing to see someone guessing and theorizing the meaning of the song. You did a really good job at theorizing the song and in particular I've never seen someone react to a vocaloid song in my life. I don't have bad grades, but I do get overwhelmed or stressed whenever there's only 1 subject that's low. This song is actually on my 3rd highest relatable songs, when I first listened to this song I thought it was about not facing reality correctly. But after knowing the meaning I knew I related to this song a lot. I never knew it would be about gifted child burnout, or wanting to have high grades, or not being good enough. There is so much clues/signs in the music video showing what the song means, which was very relatable to me. In the song near the ending, you were theorizing that Tame(the characters name I think) was seeing all of her imaginations. And when she went back into reality, she was completely destroyed which is very relatable. There's also many $u/c/de signs in the music video, like chairs, flowers, and shoes. GIFTED CHILD BURNOUT: Gifted child burnout, is probably the worst things possible. Any child could deal with it and bring so many things up in their brain. If you're a gifted child you would probably expect that you're perfect in the first place. But when it hits you, you realize that you're carrying too much stuff on your back. (In the music video) the artist/animator portrayed many things in the music video. D##th, $ui c/de, not being good enough, having an obsession, getting used to something that you didn't want to in the first place, and abnormality are many things to equal a Gifted Child Burnout.

I really relate to this song so much especially in school the feeling that you wanted to be noticed by everyone, ive always wanted attention in school bc i hate the way my classmates treat me like dust they looked at me like im invisible the feeling that you also wanted attention the feeling that you wanted tp show how different you are unlike everyone else that you will basically show almost everything just to get everyones attention ive really felt that.
