The power of the 3.5-liter V6 engine and the smoothness of the nine-speed automatic transmission are impressive. To me Acura is going backwards point blank period! Acura best years for the TL was 2002-2014! Starting with the 2002-2003 Acura TL Type-S 3.2 liter engine with 260 horsepower and it had a time from 0-60 in about 6 seconds and quarter of a mile in about 14.6. 2004 Acura TL A-Spec 3.2 engine with 270 horsepower going from 0-60 in about 5.3 seconds with a quarter of a mile time of about 13.9 with a six speed manual! Now there were rumors that it had 300 or more horsepower! I can tell you that I had a 2003 TL Type-S and it was quick but after driving my brother 2004 TL A-spec that car would beat the 2003 TL Type-s bad and I believe it had close to that 300 like they said! But both of these cars would beat the new TLX A-spec and regular TLX like they stole something from them!Now after 2004 they didn’t make a TL Type-S into 2007 which to me was a detune version of the 2004 TL A-Spec but was still a good car running from 0-60 in about 5.7 second with a quarter of a mile about 14.3 with the RL 3.5 liter engine. Then after that when Acura came out with the 3.7 TL with a 6 speed with 305 horsepower 2010 going from 0-60 in about 5.3 second and a quarter of a mile time of 13.7 with sh-AWD. I felt like they were back on track into the 2015 Acura TLX! Boy what a let down if you have drove any of those other TL! Bottom line Acura got to get back to their roots! Performance,performance and performance! I’m not talking about just putting an A-spec badge on the car and tuning the suspension!! Put some horsepower into their cars cause 290 horsepower is so yesterday when you see how the Hyundai Stinger GT got 365 horsepower with a twin turbo 3.3 liter V-6! But I have saw were Acura supposed to be bringing back the Type-S badge with a twin turbo V-6 soon! I can only wait and wish into then!!!

The new Accord V6 has a turbo and its faster than it's previous version. Second issue is the TL replaced both the tl and tsx. It's kind of in between and lacking some true identity. The Acura TLX will not be very compelling until they offer a Turbo version with more power than the 2.0T Accord. If they add a Turbo V6, then they will have a model that Accord simply cannot compete with, that is the type of clear performance advantage a brand like Acura needs to distance itself from (above) Honda/Accord (without having to pay "super car" prices as you do with the NSX - it's disappointing that they raised the price of the NSX 2.0 so much higher than the first NSX).

Most of the people who buy Acuras are older people who just want something nicer but don't want to spend the money. People aspire for Mercedes, BMWs etc. Hell even the Genesisis doing luxury better.. All the people complaining about this car have never sat in or driven one. They’re actually great cars and in person the A-spec is beautiful. I agree with the fact that the regular tlx looks somewhat boring though.
@ChristopherOSU7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a great car (as of the 2018 model, and older ones that have had the transmissions replaced). I think the 2018 refresh is a huge improvement to the car's appearance, and, the improvement to the responsiveness of the head unit was also quite significant (from what I've heard, I never tried the old one). ***But*** when you go into an Acura dealership they tell you that Acura is a "performance automobile" - the TLX (V6) is powerful, but "smooth" power, not give you an adrenaline rush knock you back into your seat exhilarating torque level of performance, not by any means. It's outside is sleek and subtly beautiful - my only complaint is that the exhaust tips are obviously fake (as in they are enlarged and the actual pipe is much smaller) - I *hate* fake pretend performance design aesthetics, such as fake "air scoops". Inside the leather seats are firm yet comfortable. Small touches like the bezel-less rear view mirror, and the beatifully simple yet elegant looking speedometer and tach along with the LCD middle display between them make me smile (especially at night). To be a great "sports sedan" and to live up to Acura's claims of being a performance brand, they ***must*** step the Acura models up to a level *above* what the Accord 2.0T brings. And also, Acura's highest performing sports sedan must not be beaten by a Honda Civic! (Type R). Acura cars must have (gain) a leg up over Honda cars in terms of performance, or they (as a brand) do not have credibility.

Acura sorely needs to put a 3.0L Turbo V6 into their next TLX if they don't want to basically become irrelevant outside of the crossover/SUV segment. That said, I own the 2018 TLX 3.5L V6 and find it to be a very nice car, pleasant to drive and beautiful to look at. Quiet and comfortable to drive/ride in but still solid feeling performance handling - just, sadly, not quiet competitive with the performance of a $50K+ German true "Sports Sedan" like an Audi S5 or BMW 5 series...
@seventyfive16 жыл бұрын
There's something going wrong at Acura HQ when they make a 3.5L V6 that can't go faster than my 2.0L Audi. Was hoping to swap my A4 at lease end for something reliable that I can drive for 10 years.... I guess I'll be waiting for a while
@maxou57576 жыл бұрын
Guys... don't forget something. This is a mile above sea level on a N/A engine car. Of course an Audi A4 with a turbocharged engine will be faster at this altitude. At sea level the 3.5L SHAWD TLX does 0-60 in under 6 seconds according to many reviews.
@Chironex_Fleckeri7 жыл бұрын
Why did Acura not turbocharge it? 320-330 HP and similar torque and this car would be fine. Give it a 6spd MT and itd be desirable. 45k can get you a lot more car as is

Yeah totally. This TL A-Spec looks great. But honestly, they should spend a little more making the car into something different than just an appearance package. 3.7L, 330 horse would be good. Better trans too.

@ChristopherOSU7 жыл бұрын
That's why you can buy them for $3,000 - $4,000 below MSRP. Car review magazines were already calling them a "good value", and all-around solid good car before that kind of discount. They just don't quite compare to a $50,000 BMD or Audi in terms of performance. The 2018 refresh of the TLX is a beautiful car to see in person, and a pleasure to drive if you're OK with sacrificing the "fun" of rear wheel drive. At almost 300HP it's still god decent performance, it's just less of a "sports" car and more of a "luxury" car. All my family members really enjoy being driven around in it. When I put it in "Sport+" mode, it's still a fun car, just not quite as thrilling as a MazdaSpeed, VW GTi V6, or higher performing BMW/Mercedes/Audi. If Acura comes out with a 3.0L Turbo V6 version of the TLX, it will absolutely breathe new life into their brand and be a very desirable car (I want one so badly already and they haven't made it yet).

For a "family" sedan, it is indeed a pleasure to drive and looks sweet. Certainly not the dream car of a single young man who wants to get his adrenaline pumping though.
@quazimoto52415 жыл бұрын
Nice video! What's that gadget you used to time the car called? In Sport+ this thing pulls off the line really hard. One important thing to note is that this car is programmed to learn your driving style over time so it may be that this car has been treated mostly gently because mine def gets to 60 in 6ish seconds. With sport+ the transmission feels clunky in low speeds but if you're trying to get up to highway speeds, I find it performs best in automatic. The SH-AWD (Super Handling - All Wheel Drive) vehicles do not come with P-AWS (Precision - All Wheel Steer), the latter comes with the FWD cars.

I can't imagine these cars selling well. I had the 08 TL Type-S and it was great...except it had no power. In this modern age, if you can't produce a RWD vehicle with at least 3-350 horsepower you're missing out on a large chunk of the sport sedan market. People generally expect a little get up and go with a "sport" sedan. Honda, BMW, Audi, and Infiniti are all offering 4 and 6 cylinder forced induction engines...Guess I'll have to keep on waiting for Acura to join in and maybe I'd go back to them.

I have an all black version and it is the funnest/nicest car I have ever driven. Moon roof with all black and 19 inch 2-toned rims looks so sick and the ride is absolutely amazing. I can see myself keeping this car for 10 years. German cars are crap - unreliable and when they break down they are 3x more expensive to fix. Acura’s last forever. Get it in black. Black looks way better than any other color for the ASPEC.

Such a shame this dude can't drive this car...v6-sh awd gets to 60 in 5.6. But with all the safety features you have to turn off the traction control and collision avoidance. The design of that SH-AWD system should be better than most its competitors and be a road handling monster. Beautiful car. This car should have been tuned to get 20 more HP and TQ to set it apart and break that psychological 300hp mark and smoke an Accord. Ditch the dumb exhaust noise coming through the speakers. I bought my 1st Gen TSX used for $12k 9 years ago. No car payments for 6 years and the car will last 10 more years no problem. Well taken care of it looks and runs like new. Most people have car payments because they buy less reliable, or more expensive cars they can't afford, or dont take care of their cars. Honda/Acuras are ultra reliable and by not having a car payment for 6 years I've been able to stash away A LOT of money.

Honda/Acura seem not to be interested in making a coupe of any model beyond the Civic. They just stole our Accord Coupe from us while robbing us of our V6 motors. They are letting sales reports design their cars, in a time where even Toyota has managed to put fun inside a F'ing Camry.

Don't you think Acura came up extremely short on power/torque, a lack of a turbo, (in a turbo competitor market) and opting for a faux exhaust tip set up rather than actual exhaust tips? Don't you also think that the buttons replacing a gear shift is also a fail with so much technology available to still have that gear shift in a uniquely fresh and new idea? Just doesn't feel like it stacks up. The regular v6 is still rather boring.

Just bought a 2018 Accord 2.0T Touring and it's 5.7sec 0-60 blows away the Acura. Acura seriously needs to step up their game. Honda has better tech and better performance, yet Acura is part of Honda.
@drivecfl6 жыл бұрын
Does it really blow away the J series V6? Blow away may be overstated a bit. The V6 is a sub 6 sec car in most cases depending on the conditions and driver of course. The 2.0T is an amazing engine for what it can do and the low end torque was beefed up, but I would think that 3/10 of a second give or take and can vary is not blown away. 4.5-5.0 sec then that would make sense. I agree that Acura needs to up the performance. There is talk about the Type S TLX with a turbo V6 in a couple of years or so. They need to save the sedan market. They may become an SUV only brand at some point if they don't make changes soon.

For a DD it's plenty. We all think we don't have enough because we're brain washed by all of the brands claiming who has the most performance. The majority of the current cars, aside from the real econoboxes can give you enough exhilaration for the daily drive. With all the cars on the roads today it's tough to use the power. If you want 500hp then look at a track type of car and do it there. Too many crazy people on the roads already not knowing the capabilities of today's cars driving like a-holes.
