Has anyone done a MPC test video? Black magic vs red magic vs junk RR vs RB Hydro Pro? That’s the test I want to see!

I tested both wheels too, and for me its more about comfort, im slow anyway 😛 (MPC is just more comfortable 🙂 ). Im not "pro" skater, but the grip is much better on Pro version

I can definitely feel a difference between the standard Hydrogen and Hydrogen Pro wheels. I did however notice the standard wheels in the video looked to be new, which could explain the slight lack of grip (I always get a better response once the wheels have an hour or two in them) Love your videos. Keep them coming :)

Maybe you are missinterpreting the colour of the wheels. I don't think he Compared old vs New wheels
@joshcarter-com Жыл бұрын
When he’s showing the wheel profiles (from the skate bottom) you can see the Pro wheels are worn a bit and will have more contact area on their inner edges. The standard wheels look new. @powerkitemad is correct that new wheels are squirrelly for a while.

Excellent video as always, thank you Victor! Although being somewhat late to the party, I'd like to add something in favor of the expensive wheels along the lines of somebody else in the comment section. I am not a professional skater but I skate a lot and generally do longer sessions for 16 to 30 km on bike roads (like many speed/power skating enthusiasts I figure). The surface on these roads varies quite a bit and is sometimes definitely not what I would desire :D. It's on bad surfaces where expensive wheels do really shine in my opinion (Bont Red Magic in my case). Because of the bouncy core they reduce the vibrations that would be transmitted to your feet and leg and they allow you to maintain speed much better than cheaper wheels (Matter Image). So even if I would not be going faster, I would still enjoy skating on the high end wheels MUCH more.

I agree. I skate quite a bit and have done many of my own "experiments" using various frame and wheel combinations. I have a garage full of frames and wheels from multiple manufacturers, utilizing different urethanes, hardness, hub composition and design etc. Although I have found harder, single pour wheels, (the cheaper wheels) to roll faster in some instances on a straight smooth surface the dual pour, more expensive wheels ( ie MPC Black Magic), always instill much more confidence due to their grip. The inner urethane is softer and allows the wheels to "flatten" sort to speak on the corners and during the push. Think of riding on a solid tire vs an air filled tire. I push harder when using dual urethane than when using a single urethane. You mention that when you referred to "stability". Due to the high cost of dual urethane wheels, I find myself constantly looking for a single, less expensive urethane, that gives me a similar confidence and rolls as well or better as the dual urethane. To date I have found none. I am not a speed skater, so my opinions are strictly that of a fitness skater that has logged many miles on many different frames, boot and wheel combinations and spent far more money on skating equipment than I care to admit. Regardless of the criticisms regarding your experimental designs, I enjoy your videos immensely. I would like to see a comparison of frame types, meaning composition and design, and the effect on speed and/or cornering. I realize frames can "flex" and like adding a softer inner urethane to a wheel it can dramatically impact cornering and ride. I find this to be true for me as I not a lightweight speed skater- LOL.

FIFTEEN seconds just for the wheels 😳, wooow ! Pretty much unexpected i must admit, very nice gap. Thanks your for this test, Victor 👍

*You did the test wrong, first off there's the "new shoe I can run faster syndrome".* *That's a mental aspect. There's absolutely nothing you can do about that.* *The best way to test the speed is to go at a cruising yet consistence pace. Let the GPS beep if you go faster or slower than a set speed. Then you measure your heart rate. Is it taking more or less effort to go at the same cruising speed? That alone will tell you which wheels are easier to ride on.* *I use to be a speed skater and a super fast marathon runner.* *So, I know quite a bit about pacing oneself.*

fix the speed - study the heart rate vs. fix the heart rate - study the speed (as Viktor did). why is the first one recommended?
@eliseerollerskater50572 жыл бұрын
True
@radicalrick95872 жыл бұрын
@@Flyzguy *Because your heart rate is not consistent when you're pushing yourself which Viktor was doing. The second workout is going to have increased BPM heart rate simply because he already worked out earlier. So, therefore he will force himself to slow down a little in order to get the same heart rate BPM from the earlier workout.*
@radicalrick95872 жыл бұрын
@@cristina8868 *It doesn't have to be a perfect pace.* *Just a comfortable cruising pace* *If the wheels are slower your leg will feel the difference and thus your heart will pump harder pushing those slower wheels to keep up with the comfortable set pace.* *For example; if the wheels were made of nerf form then you really are going to have to put in some effort to make those nerf wheels turn in order to reach your comfortable set pace speed.* *Your heart rate will be going through the roof trying to reach the same cruising comfortable set pace because of those nerf wheels.* *That's an extreme example but it helps you see the point.*

Didn't he also run time compare a Standard skate against a speed skate, but the speedskate had bigger wheels than the Standard skate??? I really don't know whats going on with his silly testing habbits.....

awesome!!!...where seconds, even hundredth of a second matters, get the best you can afford...and then, one still needs the legs, endurance, diet, even the clothes being worn, boot weight, technique, bearings etc. to run...kudos, i admire you my friend...best comments for the wheels...

I know some people who are super faster and they use normal cheap wheels and others have MPC wheels and are really slower, I am still being confused 🤔 about what kind of wheels are best or if you only have to train enough and go on . The rest is in mind

I would be interested in the difference between the Rollerblade Pro 110mm XX Firm and the Bont Red Magic 110mm XX Firm. At first glance, they do not differ, except for the color scheme.

I have a question: what is your recommendation for wheel hardness (for road races, e.g. Berlin marathon)? some people say to go for the hardest wheel you can, because you get more roll, while others say to use the softest wheel because it's smoother over cracks and bumps and you'll have less fatigue.
@gonetoheck Жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that the pink wheels are softer than the white wheels. The pink wheels are not given an actual hardness rating...just a generic "x-firm". The white wheels have an 85 hardness rating...which won't allow for much cornering grip on the pavement...but are meant for longer durability. If you raced in a straight line, I'd suspect that both pink and white wheels would perform the same as each other.

Did you have the bearings with exact same condition? Ideally: out of box with no wear at all, which means no bearings' difference. And for out of circus track, on the real streets or paths, the difference would be much less than 15 sec per 5km. I can get bigger difference just by using yours advices on technique and body position. Don't remember, was it you or someone else, but "aero" outfit vs "relaxed clothing" gives more gain than "PRO" suffix in the wheels model name. Although, from engineering point, I am impressed with those rebound property added with the PRO suffix. It dampens wobbling too, that's why your PRO wheels were giving more stability. Edges' grip variations look cool too: all for a split second and the difference between 1st place and 10th

i still have yet to see any scientific test done on either bearings OR wheels of any kind, using operating, starting, and coast down torque measuring machines. There are too many variables using a skater to isolate the wheels being the only experimental
@jacobpaint Жыл бұрын
I was expecting the difference to be smaller and that it would be important to know how much variance you usually have in your times using your normal, familiar set-up. If you knew an amateur speed skater, especially someone who usually skates on the cheaper wheels, you could have had them do the same test to see how it affected their times and how they felt on each. I appreciate that you’re a skater first and video is a side project but when you plan to do a comparison like this try to anticipate the types of data you will be explaining so you can frame yourself to one side and leave space to put everything on screen while you talk. In this video it would have been nice to see a simple comparison of the stats after your second skate. Maybe 2 columns of slightly different colour fonts with the when types at the top of each. I ended up having to skip back through the video to properly understand your comparison, an on-screen graphic would have allowed me just to pause it for a moment if needed or ignore it if I wasn't that interested. But it was a good video and demonstrated a range of experience that is helpful even if there are still some possible questions to be answered.
