The issue with that is, it will never happen 99% of the time. People that invested their time building gains in body building will never let go of what they worked for. Its similar to cyclists who has done years just to switch to body building. Muscles are more important to body builders than being skinny but have high aerobic capacity.
@vesalehtinen45342 жыл бұрын
@@PhiyackYuhwell I don’t think anyone is suggesting that he would switch to full time cycling and ditch body building. I think the point is that with a bit on practise, he could be seriously fast on the track, without compromising on muscle mass, or other body building goals.

Brad seems like a really sound guy; willing to take on challenges that are clearly out of his normal comfort zone and attacking them full on. I think this specific bodybuilder vs track cyclist episode has been helpful in emphasizing how lifting heavy (either using a bodybuilding or powerlifting based scheme) does have net positive effects on cycling! Even without training, Brad put out good power there which was I presume because of the strength he developed in the weight room. Anecdotally, I can also say that cycling to work often has helped me recover faster from heavy lifting and the gym. Which means better strength progress and therefore better cycling as well! @MiguelAugusto19822 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I thought. The pro time trial bike had *deep wheels* and a *narrower bar*, making it much more aero. Also The bodybuilder has much more *upper body area* to block the wind, so also much less aero there. The wheels and tires alone would be enough to justify those few seconds difference...right?! or am I wrong? To be honest, I was shocked/impressed with the results, since the bodybuilder would typically not have so much slow twitch fiber muscles as the pro rider that trains very specifically for that purpose, every day.

@Anton van der Merwe I mean zero cycling training. He's obviously a very strong guy. I normally cycle each spring and summer and it takes me a good few weeks of cycling regularly to build up having decent power. Having spent last winter doing weight training and crossfit, I was quite amazed at the power I had first time on the bike when I went out in the spring. My point was that Brad is starting out with powerful legs but zero experience or specific cycling training. If he can work on his lines, position on the bike along with some high intensity cycling training to strengthen his weaknesses, I bet he would be lapping a lot quicker than an average guy jumping on the bike for the first time

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! If you like track content, you might like our velodrome film over on GCN+ 👉 gcn.eu/velodrome

Does anyone else think Hank should have kitted up and added his times into the challenge? Regardless, it was a very entertaining video. Fair play to Brad for trying something as new and daunting as track sprinting, and to Harvey for his role, too.

I still remember the first time I rode a velodrome. Weird, so very weird

Brad is a sub-10 sprinter. send him down here to Trinidad for three months and we'll get him into some shape. He certainly got the engine to crank out the watts

Put them on a watt letter to measure peak power production next time! The last video I think Brad hit 1.9kw which is crazy
