The Audi being 10 seconds faster than a 787B is so crazy to me. The 787 is so edgy and intense to drive that you feel like you’re at warp speed, while the DTM car is so composed that it almost feels underpowered at times.... which really gives you a false sense of going much slower than you actually are. Considering that nutso silhouette racers like DTMs and Super GTs are literally made of downforce (it's actually what's holding the car together, fun fact /s), it's not _that_ surprising when you think about it. DTM will even get a big HP boost when it switches to the mad, mad Super GT 2L turbo engines for 2019, making them even faster 0.o

Jimmy, Audi won´t leave DTM, its Mercedes who are pulling out. Mercedes is leaving DTM in favour of a works Formula E team in the 2019/2020 season. Next year there will be Aston Martin, Audi and BMW in DTM.

5:19 They reduced the complexity of the aerodynamics and the overall downforce of the cars for the Season 2018 and the racing was just fucking great tbh. You guys should check it out (the fight between paffet and glock in hockenheim for example was just incredible!)

It's the aerodynamic drag that causes the speed loss not the downforce adding weight. Downforce only loads the tyres with an equivalent downward force equivalent to extra weight meaning that the tyres have a larger contact patch and therefore more grip, the actual mass of the car doesn't change otherwise the losses would be equal to the gains. The big wings, wider bodywork and other downforce/vortex generating devices mean that the car has a bigger profile and as such has to move more air out of the way increasing resistance to acceleration

Actually it changes the mass a bit. You know E=mc2, you know, just Einstein? Mass has nothing to do with weight, so i think you meant the actual weight of the car doesn't change, not mass, what you wrote 3 lines down.

The mass remains the same as no matter has been added or removed. I do know that Energy = Mass X Constant (SoL) squared but we're not looking at energy, I think the equation you're looking for is Weight = Mass X Gravity so saying that mass has nothing to do with weight is a bit redundant. The car has an equal mass at 0mph as it does at 200mph, the part of the sum that changes is the constant which now needs to take into account the amount of force pushing downwards. If we take air resistance out of the equation then the only difference affecting acceleration and top speed is the added rolling resistance caused by a larger tyre contact area as the car gets faster

I'm sorry but the part energy=mass*constant(gravity)² is total nonsense, first because c is the speed of light (2.996*10^8 m/s), and second because considering relativistic physics for such low speeds make no sense either. Free physics lesson here Drag is caused by speed, air density, and most importantly C, which is the drag coefficient, the higher it is the higher the drag will be at the same speed Drag is a force, and we can calculate the sum of all the forces (let's assume it's just drag and torque): we would have F(which is torque-drag) = mass (the one in kgs or lbs, stays the same at every speed) * acceleration ( the change in speed over time) Now, downforce is just the difference in air pressure from below to above every aerodynamical surface times the surface itself, surface*pressure=force, and that's downforce The weight of the car (measured in NEWTONS, not Kg or Lbs) is its mass times g, the acceleration of gravity (let's say it's 9.81 m/s² ignoring the fact that it changes slightly for different altitudes), + the downforce Grip is a force exerted by the wheel on the tarmac, and it's measured F=k*N, where F is the maximum force withstandable by the tire (If the torque is higher than the grip you'll get wheelspin), K is the coefficient of grip (there's one for every couple of materials, in this case it's rubber/tarmac) and N is our weight (remember it's mass*g + downforce) So, high downforce means high grip but more air resistance Hope it helped :)

Yes. The 90's DTM were completely different cars, though. They were very fast, actually more power in 1996 than today's DTM, and about the same weight. But very different engine (2.5 litre high-rev atmospheric V6 with a production-based engine bloc, versus 4.0-litre mid-rev supercharged V8). The Class 1 cars of the 90's also had extensive electronic aids, and the driving style was completely different, as they obviously had less downforce, and were built to literally jump over kerbs. In 1993 the early Class 1 Alfa 155 actually raced the Nordschleife (last race in DTM), and the lap times were around 7 minutes (8:45 with the new circuit without Mercedes Arena). The lap would be probably much more dramatic than in the modern DTM, a lot of sliding and kerb action.
