To be honest, I never made a course of english, just learned all I know with musics, movies, series, youtube Channel and Duolingo (an app in the playstore and appstore). I really like that language, but I can't do an english course, so I study alone in my home with all ways that I can. Isn't easy, but is satisfatory watch sometin' in english and can understand 70% of video. I dream someday to be able to speak english fluently. My problem isn't speak, because I'm not shy, I like to try speak, even with my pronuciation that isn't good yet, but to me is hard understand outher people speaking... And before that I forget, I love that video! Helped me so much! Thanks from Brazil ❤️

Congratulations, one of the first steps is to be courageous , not have fear of speaking. Something that maybe can help you is always try to describe in your mind what are you seeing, and try to narrate stories in english.

I feel very umconfortable and insecure when I have to speak around people. I AM secretary and sometime I answer the phone in English. My heart almost jump outside my chest.

Cool. I really appreciated your video. Answering your questions, 1 I have spent around 1 hour per day. 2 I have watched a lot of videos from KZbin and American series in English. 3 To me, be fluent means listening e understanding around 90% of a conversation. Also speak English without translate in my mind each word. That would be awesome.

Hi :) I spend about 2 hours per day studying English, I read books in English, listen audiobooks, free courses on the internet, watching movies with lyrics and watching KZbin videos like yours. And my definition of fluency is: to be capable to say everything you have in mind, eveything you want to say without struggle correctly and with simplicity.

Hi, Vanessa! Thank you very much for videos. You're an awesome teacher. I think the same - the answer for that question is not an easy one, but maybe you can give us examples of someone who became fluent. For example: This girl became fluent for 1 year. She practiced every day for 2 hours and spoke with a native speaker three times in a week. She wanted to move to Canada, so her definition of fluency was be able to describe and understand native speakers from Canada. If it’s not a problem can you give us examples please? thank you in advance!

Thanks for your feedback, Elan Ner. Most people have a difficult time saying "I am fluent" because it seems like they don't need to learn any more. Even someone who speaks English really well doesn't like to say that because it's hard to be satisfied. But, I have students who have spoken English once a week for an hour and watched an English TV show every day and become much MUCH better in English.

I can understand everything she said in the video and basically everything all the English youtubers(and films) that I watch without subtitles. I can read an entire book in english ( I sometimes have to google some words but that's not the real problem) I can write long ass stuff in english (I do some mistakes but people can understand me I guess) I just can't speak. If an english speaker approach me and talk to me in english I think I would not be able to answer even if I know how to. I think I should practice my english speaking skills but I don't know how to/with who because I don't know people who can speak English. I know there is some apps like HiNative where native speakers can help you but 1)I'm too shy,I don't know how to ask for people help and I can't start a conversation 2)I'm only 12 (turning 13) and i've heard there is a lot of creeps lmao I think i'm still too young. Maybe when I grow older I will be able to make english friends and become fluent. And my english teacher say I'm very good for my level (I'm in 8th grade) but i don't believe her bc I can't speak.There is a girl in my class who is not that good at grammar and stuff and she don't really know a lot of vocabulary but her english accent is flawless and she is bold enough to talk in english I think she will become fluent faster than me if she work hard/harder. I'm maybe able to write stuff but this is useless if i can't speak 😧

Big fluency tip: Don't just write your answers to these questions in the comments, say them out loud. You can even turn on voice recognition on your phone to speak your comments instead of writing them. Why does this tip work? To most people, "fluency" means "I want be able to understand a conversation and speak easily". Most people practice listening by watching youtube videos like this, but they don't practice speaking or replying. If you don't practice speaking, you won't become a good English speaker, even if you study vocabulary and grammar all day. So, every time you watch a youtube video, try speaking you comments instead of writing them. Even if the youtuber doesn't ask a question, you can reply to the video with simple phrases like "I agree" or "I disagree", and then explain your reasons.

I discovered this feature. At this moment I'm using it. For those who want to know how to turn on this feature you have to open your keyboard and tap and hold the icon to the right of the Sym tab. @acolorfulbrain
@acolorfulbrain 6 жыл бұрын
You might need to change your phone language to English first. Go to your phone settings, then language, then choose English. Then, whenever you type comments in your phone, choose the microphone button and you can speak your comments in English! You can change you phone language back to the original language anytime. However, I think it's good practice to keep it in English and much as possible. Hope this helps! Edit: I'm glad you got it working! Good luck with your studies!

@edisionadle1409
@edisionadle1409 6 жыл бұрын
@Gerardo You are right about watching formal movies, but I will also watch films with a high level of idioms as well NOT slang (To me Slang is not proper speech and to ME it sounds terrible). This is because if YOUR English is too perfect a native will still know you not a native even if you speak without an accent. What do I mean by perfect? Example Suppose I said the phrase "Where are you going?" The sentence is perfect but a native person will still know that you are not a native English speaker. This is because a native will use CONTRACTIONS for the sentence. This is how a native will say it: "Where're you going? More examples Not native: I should have done my homework Native: I shoulda done my homework. These idioms are common in films and tv series. I recommend the big bang tv series, friends, How met your mother, Baby Daddy.

Hi Teacher Vanessa! Thanks a lot again for these tips,I always get excited every time you have a new video.1)I usually spend my free time to learn English everyday for almost an hour. 2) I'm always imitating you're whole video every time you speak since I like American accent 3) It's not really necessary for me to become a fluent like a native speakers as long as I understand them,able to write and speak clearly with confidence that is my definition of fluency:)
