so we started our sap boil after church at 12:15pm and just finished..what started as a warm sunny day ,clouded over and got cold..typical new England..but we stood out at the camp jet stove and boiled for 4 hours then finished in the house..got a quart of medium amber syrup..heavenly..well worth it..will have another 5 gallons + to boil later in the week..been to many sugarhouses but there is nothing like making your own..can't wait for the pancakes and syrup in the morning..enjoy..

Love this video so much! We only have a little under 3 acres, but are surrounded by maples and I so wanna do this just for our own personal stock. I do have a wood stove similar to yours that would work for that part. This gave me the idea to hook it up in an additional building since our cabin will not work for it. It's amazing how little syrup you get from it, but so worth it! I'll keep watching and look for vids I've missed to catch up a bit! Thanks!

In the future you should set up a storage barrel outside the outdoor cook kitchen and have the storage up high enough so that you can run tubing from outside storage to inside cook kitchen with a valve inside so you can add sap when ever needed I usually just let mine drip into the pot and keep the process going continuous.You need the 23 gallon stock pot on the kitchen cook stove nice big bottom pan.Once you bottle your syrup it is hot enough at 220F that the lids will seal on the mason jars.

Gooood Mawning Al! I hope my poke at the New Hampshire (Massachusetts blend) accent doesn't offend, but it does come through loud and clear to this Lawn Guylanda! Looks great in the outdoor kitchen. I like that you're "tapping into" the available local resources for making Maple Syrup. I hope that you can put smiles on the faces of friends that you share it with and maybe trade it for something else that you can use. You should see if your pig farmer is willing to trade! Have a great day and enjoy the day with Olivia and Gina whatever y'all do.

normally, I watch your channel on my Smart TV, so I can't comment! But, today I'm on my computer, now, about yesterday you shouldn't throw out the ice because it is frozen sugar water and it might make more syrup Just a thought! When Sugar Shack's throw away their ice they can afford too because they get 100's of gallons of sap. that syrup looks so good!

Maple Syrup boils at 7 degrees hotter than water so to make sure you really have gotten to syrup boil until it is 219 and your there. Its more reliable than the apron method.

You're a star, for one moment I thought it was going too fast. But hey look at what you've made.... Love it. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Hope Olivia's not too sad she wasn't there to make this batch with you. Some people have more than one tap in each tree. Have you looked into that. The your yield would've greater. Xxx keep the good work up xx.

We are boiling ours for the first time today. Using a regular turkey fryer it took about 30 minutes to get it up to a rolling boil and that's 5 gallons worth of sap! I'm interested to see how long it takes to boil it down.

If you are going to be harvesting sap to make syrup on a regular basis, I would suggest a bigger wooden spoon to stir with like the size of a small oar. If you can boil it down more so it is really thick and make yourself some maple taffy, you have the fresh snow to do it in.

hah! if you want to hear my input i think you should change up the end title a bit. it sounds robotic. all the same, your approach is completely devoid of arrogance and idiocy. unlike some other homesteaders. you know who i mean. so top marks for that!
@sprucemoose20776 жыл бұрын
If you pour your finished hot syrup into sterilized jars and put the caning lids right on tite and flip jars over for a minute or two to sterilize the lid flip back over and your jars will seal as it cools making your syrup canned. pretty soon the sap will be pouring out and hard to keep up with, youll get your two gallons as long as the weather keeps a slowly warming up. question for you al, what feed do you give your chickens been trying to find organic feed but it sure is expensive, at least locally. keep up the good work!
@LumnahAcres6 жыл бұрын
We feed Morison Feed or Green Mountain.

Awesome looks wonderfull I have a few question... 1- I was wondering how much it cost to run the propane tank for 2 hours. ( The wood stove is run on left over scrap lumber or wood from your property that's renuable so I don't count that cost.) 2&3 - How much maple syrope does your fam consume per month ? Will 2 gallon last a year? Cuz 2 gallons is 16 pint jars right ? So to last a year that's would equals 1 jar per month and then you have 4 left for your pantry prep and building a stockpile for a bad maple year...( Or just to give away.) I hope you make that 2 gallon and more. Have you seen the sap flow from art and Bri man that sap is like a river. I hope yours warm up and do the same. Much love have a blessed day Kind regards rose Ps I'm very happy not all videos have the scattering glass noise. I'm not shure it's intentional since someone else who has an s.p.d. (s3nsory processing disorder ) mentioned it. Or if it's a coincidence but for me it's a lot easier on the nerves. (I love your building videos but almost mute it when you use your tools and saw blades but I can anticipate those the shattering glass I can not. I never know when it comes if it comes at all so thanks for that consideration.

Actually that type of gas burner is pretty old tech (1850's) so don't let anybody bust your chops over your "high tech" burner.

AL, I am smiling at seeing you use the ancient wood stove to cook your syrup off. I just hope you do not get the inside of the kitchen all sticky. I am thinking of using similar equipment, which I have, to boil off sugar cane to get molasses. That would make us an interesting project. You worked hard for that pint of syrup. Hopefully you will get more sap over the weekend. Ai, you are an inspiration. God love you, God bless America. That thermometer idea is great too. Padre+
