How Fast Can You Beat Pokemon Blue With Just HM Moves??

Playthrough Rules:
1. Start with Cut HM
2. No Glitches or Exploits (Marowak Skip Permitted)
3. Allowed to use Shift Battle Style
4. Allowed an Entire Team
5. No Items During Battle
6. No Blackout Training (On Purpose)
7. Entire Elite 4 Without Losing
Other Things to Know:
1. Pokeballs (HM Pokemon) are allowed in battle
2. I play the game at 4x game speed (238 frames per second)
3. My Pokemon have perfect DVs
4. Skipping the bike is not allowed
5. Saving between Elite 4 members isn't allowed
Terms:
1. STAB
--- Same Type Attack Bonus - a 1.5x damage multiplier for using a move that shares it's type with the attacker
2. DVs
--- The Gen1 equivalent of IVs (individual values), these range from 0-15
3. Stat XP
--- The Gen1 equivalent of EVs. But unlike EVs, you can reach the limit with every stat

Yeah, I didn't expect to have as many troubles as I did. If I had more practice with full team runs, I probably would have had a better idea of what level I needed to be to take on the elite 4.

I imagine in the late game, only fly surf and strength will be used, unless you want to abuse flash

I thought about using flash, but the coverage is so good with a full team of pokemon, there just wasn't a need.

Cool Stuff. I like the concept. I would have definitely used pivot and sacrifice strats to mitigate stat drops and confusion, because that is your main advantage of a full team which I don't think was utilized to its potential, but this game isn't too difficult. I definitely would have went with more water types. Kingler learns surf strength and cut. Also Flash is some cheese I was hoping to see, but not many pokemon can learn flash and another move. Starmie would also be a choice. Water pokemon are broken in this game. It also lets you pivots with lorlei work better. But this is all about how you wanna use your time. I personally cheat in this game, because I'm not going to let a 30 year old game design ruin my fun because of its hardware limitations. I just make everything buyable at the store, and get the encounters I want at a level I want because grinding is dumb and boring. I personally take the attitude of overpower and wreck, and its cool when you can do that at a lower level. Its almost like we all forgot why we all used missingno in the first place. Its just more fun that way. At least for me. But is that what people want to see? idk i don't have a utube. Anyway love the pokemon stuff.

It's an old video, I certainly would do things differently. The problem is that I treated it more like a "Speedrun" when I missed out on making it a bigger challenge. If I were to do it again, I would make it a Nuzzlock, possibly even a hardcore one.

I'm 27, so n64 was slightly before my time. The only n64 games that I play/own are all the mario/pokemon games. Also tony hawks pro skater 1 and a few others. But my childhook mostly started with the gameboy advanced and gamecube/xbox original.

You should try puting an extra challenge on by not overleveling. You need to match or below the gym leaders ace pokemon's level. So misty be 21 brock 14, but you can start the battle at brock at level 14 and only need 1 more xp to level up, u can level up during battle n I think u know all of this anyway

I understand what you're saying. But the only two pokemon that can learn cut at this point in blue version are charmander and beedrill. I don't think at level 14 it would be possible to defeat brock with only cut. As for misty, I could do that, but it would just use up extra time training pokemon I wouldn't use until later in the run. So I guess it really goes down to one extra factor, am I trying to win fast, or do I want to grind. Despite the length of the video, this took editing nearly 10 hours of raw footage and the runs themselves took a really long time on their own. If I had an editor or something like a big channel, I could totally add more restrictive rules. But that video was a nightmare to edit, all the pokemon swaps was really difficult to edit around, and there was just so much grinding I had to delete. I for sure could have done better, but I had to do with the footage I had. Thanks for the recommendation for future challenges though!
