So, when you’re using Pokemon from later games. How do you determine the special? Do you just use the highest or just somewhere in the middle?

We always pick the higher of the 2 special stats. It's deemed the "chansey" rule. That's why some pokemon are only good in gen 1, like ledian for instance has pretty low atk and special. It's quite fun playing some pokemon who have one of their stats improved by a lot.

Omg. Steve. In gen 1 bide and focus energy both have wired glitches to them. When onix used bide in the first run, each time you used focus energy it made the damage you were going to take back from your 1 rock slide X4. That’s why you got so much damage output against you. And the turns you used multiple focus energy it was stacking so basically got 1 shot. If you go back a watch the footage you will see that when you used roar there was normal bide damage output. But each time you used focus energy instead of roar you had no chance of winning. I’m surprised the other two didn’t say anything unless they also didn’t know.

I think you've discovered another new little quirk of the game. I'll definitely let speed know, he freaking loves these little facts. So not only does it lower your crit chance, it I works as an enemy buff too.

@@SteveMPlays yeah man. Watching it play out in real time was actually really cool. He thought he got super lucky beating it on his try while you and Austin struggled. But he just chose roar instead of focus energy. Nothing else. Haha 🤣

We actually added it to the game ourselves. We actually had to remove some data to add it, good thing nobody uses the slot machines in the game corner.

The program itself is called retroarch, the emulator core that retroarch is using is mgba (the prettiest colors I think use this one).

Just like for speeds pick of Eevee, persian will still be put in a poll, but I will put it against some pokemon it has a high chance of winning against.

Just looked into Ledian just now and since we give it the higher special stat, it's going to really benefit from the egg move psybeam, and then the thunderpunch and ice punch becoming thunderbolt and ice beam.

I'm touring the youtube channels that mention GameHook in their description. Amazingly, what you've got going on is the kind of content I had envisioned with later gens put into Gen I. Wow! It's an idea I had baking for the last year and a half and just as I was looking to get started on it, gamehook disappears. Are you in any community that's still discussing gamehook? The chat there offered to me in Feb to help out on getting started on an overlay, but life got in the way and I never did get a chance to learn.

You know. I think these 2 runs are a perfect example of why sometimes the most efficient use of time is to battle a few extra trainers to get not only a few extra levels but then more money to buy a couple extra vitamins. It made a MASSIVE difference against Lance. 44 resets versus 1st try. Way faster to just battle more trainers throughout. Awesome stream Steve. Loved how it evolved from first to second run.

Like even if I didn't get lucky, did you see hydro pump? It did slightly more than half, so I could have gotten to aerodactyl on every try.

@@SteveMPlays yeah! Exactly! All of the other prep work that took longer to get to Lance made it so much easier to get by Lance that even if you got bad luck you had some potential outs!

When you walked by without picking Lapras in the second run I literally yelled at my phone saying noooooo you forgot Lapras!! Hahaha. Clearly to no avail! 😂😂 crazy how things spiral sometimes. Great run regardless.
