You also could've mentioned using the throttle to help rotate the car. Sometimes using less steering and more gas will actually turn the car better. This is especially apparent on mid and rear engined cars.

I don't even know if you going to read this comment, but your video actually help a lot. That "why smooth is faster" video made me improve my lap times much more. Because i was driving aggressively, i always ended up oversteering the car, thus making me lose time and/or positions. After learning how to drive smoothly, that rarely happens.

I love how he technically gets to his promised answer every video (not clickbait) but sometimes he makes weird statements toward the beginning that give the wrong idea entirely (“able to steer the car without using the wheel”, where it should be “using less wheel”) for dramatic effect, which feels like clickbait when you realize what he actually means.

In regards to the video, I always went by the following: Good drivers maneuver the car with the steering wheel. Great drivers maneuver the car with the steering wheel and pedals. Excellent drivers maneuver the car with the steering wheel, pedals, the car's weight and the curvature of the road.

Would you be able to provide a power over distance graph that aligns with your distance traveled around the turn so we can see when you apply the most and least pressure? Providing us with stuff like this on turns of various cambers, grades, entry speeds, sharpnesses, and exit variations will really help us quantify exactly what your saying. This is especially important for people like me who don't SIM race, but live in wet, hilly terrain that's full of deer and fallen trees, so we just want to know how to evasively maneuver around those obstacles if the time comes.

This is great content, very well put together. I'm interested to see how your next video goes as well. I've always thought of drifting as the fastest cornering technique, but with it comes a proportional (limiting) factor of the most tire wear, so in most situations it makes more sense to take corners slightly slower than you could while drifting for the sake of saving tires. And that makes sense, considering how frequent pit stops to deal with max tire wear would almost certainly undo any advantage you gained from taking corners at the max speed. However, there is a middle ground between cornering speed and tire wear, if you can find it, where you maximize the amount of speed you can squeeze out of a corner while minimizing the amount of tire you have to pay for it with. Fast drivers will know this as the point where your car is technically sliding, because your tires are just past their grip point, but they're not so far past that you're full on drifting. You're getting the benefit of a drift, since you're able to take the corner slightly faster than what the traction of your tires would provide naturally, but you don't need to go farther than that because after this point you add more tire wear without also increasing cornering speed. And this is regarding asphalt courses with cars that don't have immense downforce, as rally cars and F1 cars (for example) have different solutions to the speed/tire wear problem, given their differing circumstances. This is all theoretical, so it would be nice to have some data that agrees with it

I thought I was decreasing steering angle to prevent overrotation in the braking... but I didn't think about telling: "i'm rotating the car with the brake pedal" then about the corner exit... when the car has such understeering problem under throttle I tend to modify the line a lot, it's like doing a fake doble apex (making a later apex) to reduce the time on the throttle as it's a bad rear to front balance, then when I feel in the moment to use the "leftover" track width... full throttle. In loooong corners it gets difficult so I tend to apply and lift throttle like you said but it's not what I (personally) would do, like it doesn't sound very ideal (which doesn't necessarily mean I'm right)

I notice in lots of aim racing videos never really mention how and why this happens . Keep in mind it's a whole new driving curve it's not the occasional leave the house type vehicle the huge difference is almost everything . Most don't use power steering , power brakes , and acceleration is completely different because of this factor , this is why driving like this happens. You get to experience the true feeling of the car . Yes all this would seem to be faster but in reality you'll be a lot slower because the weight difference is huge . Also the car shakes like crazy because of mounts to increase stiffness to entire motor .

The throttle on a 4wd and fwd car out of a corner will induce understeer. Rwd is more likely to cause oversteer espically if you get the car upset. Don't forget the driver train your car has and drive it to its limits

i always trail brake on the sim but its not that much in real life (maybe I'm afraid of it) but i think i should try to practice it a bit more
@guillermoguillermo4368
@guillermoguillermo4368 Жыл бұрын
I did it in the night in a country road I thought I was familiar with but i encountered a sudden curve. I did not do it because I wanted to experiment but because that was the only way to not lose control of my fwd and it went smoother than expected. I could not believe myself but then I never did it again because I have not access to a track and in public roads I'd rather be respectful of other drivers than trying race techniques. But I have a background learning to trail brake when practicing coming to a full stop as I let go the brakes gradually so the weight that is in the front wheels returns to the back as slow as possible. Once you do it for a year in the same car you will control the weight transfer perfectly even when emergency driving. I think it is safer to know how to do it than not knowing so don't hesitate to get a feel for your brakes and suspension behavior in a controlled safe emviorement with no one around. You also have the advantage over sim racing that you can still feel the different forces allowing you to receive more precise feedback than any kind of sim.

just a question Stiffer suspensions affect this technique? If I understood correctly, you need the weight shift to use this technique, but a stiffer would make prevent the weight going foward, I guess. Is this correct?
@jar-jarnotbinks7685
@jar-jarnotbinks7685 Жыл бұрын
What it will change, is how fast the suspension will react and how far it will travel, but the weight shift will still be there, even if your suspension is at it's hardest and barely compress. On a suspension-less bike, it's the pneumatics that will deform and act as suspension, but nonethelss, when you apply front braking, you definitly feel the load going foward, while the rear lift off. Press harder on the front brake and this is how you do a stoppie, or end up face first on the pavement. Actually this weight shifting foward effect also happen when braking only the rear tyre, but since there is a lessened load on the rear because of the braking, it will slip and not bite very well on the road. This is thanks to that you can do a slide/bike drift, or grate your side like cheese. Very grossly, that's because when braking/turning, your tyres try their hardest to decelerate/change direction while everything connected above want to keep going at the same speed and the same direction it was going the moment before. You can use this momentum to rotate the car around a pivot point which will be different depending chassis, mass distribution, transmission and aero. You're right, it does affect the technique, my takes would be that harder suspension settings makes it more precise/better reaction to driver input, but punish mistakes more. As the suspension is harder, it's actually easier to kill the rear tyres grip when hard braking, even more with a stiff rollbar, which provoke lift off on the inner side of your turn. Furthermore, anything that isn't perfect pavement will be awful to drive. In the end, I think that cars with very soft suspensions are actually good teachers for all weight transfer related exercises. The dramatic change in attitude of the car makes it a bit easier to grasp the concept, imho. edit : form and added details
@Delimon007
@Delimon007 Жыл бұрын
Stiffer suspension = more understeer meaning you need more oversteer to overcome that added understeer. I am of course, assuming you want the car to be usable and not using an extreme. Every car has a near perfect tuning point to go with the body, power/acceleration, etc. You don't want a suspension that is "stiffer" or "looser" you want a suspension that matches the car.
