Equipped with it's original engine and transmission, we took Eddies' 1994 ED XR6 to the drag strip for some testing. Still fitted with a factory rear section exhaust, we spent time perfecting the tune and came away with a respectable time in a world dominated by the Barra 4L.
Let us know what you think in the comments.

Damn I had a greed ED XR6 5 speed, bought it about 5 years old with 110k on the clock and all stock. I added cold air intake, extractors, hi flow cat and lowered it and put some new pirellies on it. For what it was, it was a beast. I could pull away from 5L autos, which was basically the ‘fast’ car everyone had around my area. I put one of those old G Tech drag computers onto it and I think the best it ever did was a high 13, 13.8 or 9 from memory. One of my best memories in it was I used to see my girl who lived about an hour away from me, and coming home one morning at about 5am, I was on the highway at about 130kph, and found a VT Monaro. We were both up for it and took off and I had him until he rolled off at 200, so I rolled it out a little more just to say I went 200+, came home, went to work, finished up, went to my mates place and decided to go get some KFC for lunch and watch the racing with him, cruising along through a green light and a Range Rover turned right through a give way intersection and nailed me in my RHF guard. Smashed my wheel, all my headlights, snapped the engine mount, cracked my screen, wrote the old girl off. I only owned it about 8 months. I’ve had probably 50 cars since I started driving and my ED XR6 is still one of my favourites.

@@GapSauceKZbin Thanks man. Yeah I was heartbroken because I worked my ass off then doing 7 days a week to be able to afford a nice car and still go out and hang with my buddies. Add to that the cop on scene didn’t fine him, even though there was 2 witnesses who said what happened, and then the bag of dicks driving lied to his insurer about that happened and said instead of me travelling North, with him travelling South, to turn West across my path, he said I was travelling West, doing a burnout and turning to travel South. The insurer rings me and my insurer were going to deny my claim until I produced the 2 witnesses, as well as a diagram and video of the intersection and light timing etc and asked them how did he possibly hit my RHF guard, while damaging the entire front of his car, if I was turning as he described. They didn’t deny his claim for lodging a false claim, but because I was a young guy in my 20’s with a performance car they automatically assumed I was at fault. Assholes man. I really miss that car a lot. If I still had it now, I’m almost 100% certain I would have swapped in a Barra turbo, or put a blower onto the 4L motor.

My grandparents had a base model white ED, I remember riding around in it as a kid. A funny thing about it that I remember was the speedometer wouldn't do anything if you were going under 15 km/h or so, and if/when you went faster, the needle would very quickly jump up and point to the speed you were going...

Lol all the old girls coming out to play these days. Just today i had 2 separate EB Falcons in (Both Ghia's too, funnily enough for the exact same job, AC Compressor front seals gone bye bye). Seeing a few more early E's driving around too. Maybe all the old fella's are finally selling them off. I had another old customer who had the absolute mintiest looking EF XR8, in that dark green colour (Heritage green i think its called). Thing had a great respray at some point, slightly lowered/nicer suspension and brakes, perfect original rims, all stock driveline/otherwise stock. Never went in the rain, did hardly any KM's. I loved seeing it come in for its once a year service lol. Slightly devastated when he sold it, if i'd known i probably would have bought it. I was super happy when the *not as old* old bloke that bought it from him rolled in looking to keep it serviced here atleast.

Nice vid Blake. I had a '98 EL XR6 when it was two years old. It ran a 15.6 bog stock on 91 octane and 15.2 on 95 premium back in the day. Tall first gear in the btr doesn't help these things! My Dad had a new AU XR8 manual at the time that ran a 14.9 but there wasn't much in them on the road. Fast forward a few years and a 2013 FG XR6 NA grocery getter ran a 14.7 stock on 98 octane. 2.5" catback and underdrive was a 14.3, it since has had a 100 cell cat, 4495's and full 3" system and feels much quicker but I have never tested it. I reckon there would be a high 13 in it by the feel of it, not bad for an NA taxi 6 and heavy Car that gives high 7 litres per 100km on the open road.👍

@@GapSauceKZbin never will sell them, but unfortunately they will never go on the road again. I spent 18mth rebuilding the XR6 wagon and on the 2nd test drive she was hit by a drunk driver. 1 month fighting with the insurance company as they wanted to write it off ,I finally got my way and had the $10,500 repair work done ,as I said to them if they can find me a replacement then they can write it off, as we all know the wagons are like rocking horse shit. It took 24 mths to repair and some of the parts had to be sourced from New Zealand. Since that moment I couldn’t let it happen to any of them again. How much over peak power should you be shifting for best times? Or how are you working out best rpm to shift at
@GapSauceYoutube
@GapSauceYoutube 2 жыл бұрын
Usually a few hundred rpm after but it depends on the gear ratios (rpm drop) We went completely siderably slower shifting higher, and our fastest ET was shifting at lower rpm than the factory shift points.
