The truth is: They wanted to name the game Fighting Fantasy, but another game was already named that (thank goodness!) But htye wanted to keep the 'FF' so they went with Final Fantasy.

1:01:30 When SE opened up the development to the community. (To the surprise of everyone.) Some of the most vocal people in the forums were wow fans. There were a lot of them. So, SE started out trying to maintain the FFXI feel with a Realm Reborn 2.0, but just stripped out all that. Made it more of a theme park and less of a classic MMO. Now peoples main complaint, its too much of a theme park, in that. "We did all the rides." We want more of classic MMO feel.

I'm just starting the video, so sorry if you address this later in the video or already knew. One thing to note is that this documentary was posted in June 2017, right when Stormblood was released. ff14 has undergone a TON of changes since this documentary was made, and well before the Endwalker population boom. I guess for reference, the free trial of ffxiv now contains everything that that was in the game when this documentary came out, and all the post stormblood patches after that.

Im kinda glad i had no idea that 1.0 even existed or i might've never touched ARR when it came out. I started playing ARR about a year after its release and only found out 1.0 existed after HW. Im really glad i found the game back then its increadible to experience the growth of a game yourself and see it gettin better year after year and for me it peaked in SHB.
