On the sidechain kick part, you can just mute the kick pattern and it still sidechains the bass, as long as the kick is still routed to it.

I don’t know how you do it, but props to you man. Highly impressive
@slackstarfish81339 ай бұрын
For any of yall that don’t sidechain the 808 to the kick, especially for a rack kick, moving the kick by tiny increments can make it fit way better with the 808. You pretty much gotta just test every kick and move it slightly forward or back so that it sits right with the 808. It has to do with the waveform and wether or not they are clashing. Moving the kick just slightly can change how the waveforms interact and make it sound wayyy better. It creates a different sound compared to sidechaining which can be nice but it takes more work.

Drake's done quite a few beat switches, fair trade, TSU and n 2 deep on clb had one, jimmy crooks, her loss has a lot of beat switches, rich flex, broke boys, hours in silences etc. For all the dogs had a few musical changes half way through songs too, 7969, fpsm etc. Don't forget his old classic tracks too, pound cake switched into a different beat/song too

I think recently the influence is from Travis Scott as a lot of their collaborations have beat switches and it's a staple of Travis' style
@AidenKenway10 ай бұрын
Appreciate the comment. Many Drake songs do have beat switches. I was referring to songs that switch up to a specific type of faster beat like what we heard in SICKO MODE pt 3. The BPM in the songs you mentioned either stayed the same or slowed down. Apart from Broke Boys. That's another good example of this method.

Another good way to emulate the sidechain while the kick isn’t playing is to duplicate the rack kick and use it as a ghost note to trigger the sidechain effect. Same process as regular sidechaining, just unroute the ghost kick from the master channel and put it where ever you want to duck the 808 😎
