We will miss it when it's gone. The unique skin pigmentation is amazing . Never knew you needed to clean it so thoroughly to make it edible . Our planet is an amazing place. Full of wonders and secrets.

Please stop torturing the English Language, and the internal shell of Squid is NOT a PEN !!!it is in fact a QUILL. You have been Told !!!
@Pete_GribsАй бұрын
Absolutely right! Also, the plural of squid is not "squids" ... all this infuriates me, too! Respect to ya, Graham.
@DownhillAllTheWayАй бұрын
@grahamtodd2335 Do an Internet search for "squid pen" and also for "squid quill", and you will find the gladius referred to both ways. Appareently, it is shaped like a quill pen. A "gladius" was a Roman short sword, so you have to search for "gladius in a squid", and you will find ... *_The pen, or gladius, of the squid is an internalized shell. It serves as a site of attachment for important muscle groups and as a protective barrier for the visceral organs. The pen's durability and flexibility are derived from its unique composition of chitin and protein._* - so it seems not to be a torturing of the English language! @Pete_Gribs Do an Internet search for "squid plural", and you will find both "squid (pl)" and "squids". One result I found said that "squid" is the plural of the animals of a given species, for exmple, "we saw hundreds of Humboldt squid", but different species of squids take a "s" in the plural. For example, "The Humboldt and the Vampire are the two squids that we will discuss" - but squid / squids seems quite indeterminate. It can be either. I hope this helps to "defuriate" you. See - I can torture the language as well as anybody!

I spent some years in the sea of Cortez on my sailboat, and in Santa Rosalia the fishermen hunt the Humbolt squid. They go at night using a special glowing lure. They often fill their boat, which can cause trouble. If the wind picks up, it may swamp the boat and fishermen have been attacked and eaten by them. On the other hand I have been snorkling in about ten feet of water and seen them resting on the bottom. They only attack at night.

People don’t eat the giant squid. Only scientists fish for them. Ma-a-a-y-be a medium size such as the Humboldt squid of the Gulf of California in Mexico.

When we have fished out all the squid, I wonder how many whales will starve. Man is the greatest tragedy to the balance of nature.

That’s impossible. They reproduce in massive numbers. And mature faster than just about any every other living thing.

Jump in the ocean and kiss a squid, and give yourself up to a whale. The whale will be happy that you did what you did.

it wont happen for decades. There's WAY more squids, including giant squids than you imagine. Likely x5 the human population.

I am amazed by the numbers given for the amount of squid caught in Oregon and it's value: 5000 metric tons or 5 million kg have only a value of 6 million$? That would be less than 1.2$ a kg or hardly 50 cents per lbs. Is it really that cheap?

The Humbold squid exists not only in the Eastern Pacific. I ate it in the Philippines, it is caught near the coast of Jordania and in the straight of Messina in Southern Italy. I think it is found worldwide. This species sometimes shows up in masses and then seems to disapear and show up elsewhere. The last few years it could be bought in Italian supermarkets.
@borax9216 күн бұрын
You can buy them also in sloovenia and croatia markets but there are no humbold squids in adriatic sea, we import them from central south america
