Well in short the main reason of confusing timeline is marketing strategy but that not really worked! X-men franchise thought that people will see their movies from the bottom for chronological order like from X-men first class and they need to watch their last chronological movies X1, X2 and X3. Therfore these three movies will remain fresh that people must need to watch for completing X-men story
