i feel as if the next beach worlds usa is going to really dominate just based off of how much more effort they will put

This American defeat reminds me of European basketball fans making fun of USA for not taking FIBA and (formerly) Olympics seriously, then once USA actually tried they just dominated everyone minus a few good national teams like Spain and France who gave them a good fight. Then USA stopped caring about FIBA and got humbled by Germany 😂

it's hard to care about international when their only competition is a flash-in-the-pan moment of brilliance from some country that fails to reproduce that effort continuously. usa got 4 golds and a bronze in a tournament where basically all their players are coming off of club nationals, which is widely accepted as the most competitive tournament in the world. they don't specialize in beach ultimate whereas a lot of these teams DO, and they still wiped the floor with almost everyone. we don't respect international teams because they rarely put on a show worth respecting. and when they do, usa has shown that if they actually put any effort into preparing and taking an international event seriously, they walk all over the competition.

The FIBA situation is cyclical by nature.

I don't see this as the same the FIBA situation. USA have only won 2 of the last 4 world beach championships in the mixed division so if they were going to get a wakeup call then surely that would have been after the bronze in Dubai. They also lost two games in the most recent win in Royan. I think what this really shows is that US just has an amazing amount of top level depth. The 25th best man and women in the US is far better than their counterpart in any other country. However when you introduce a shorter format, have fewer players, other countries are able to to put together teams that match or are at least close to the US team. Beach also allows you to play through 3 or 4 star players in a way that you can't on grass. The nature of the slower surface allows for isolation of your stars in space. That being said, this was a USA team with 4 players and 1 alternative from the most recent world games cycle, as well as another alternate from 2017. The team had a lot of firepower and they had their warning in the group stages with the 12-10 game against France. I can't imagine they weren't prepared for what France had and I think they took it plenty seriously and it looked like they cared (they brought 3 coaches!). I imagine none of those players want to be on a US team that doesn't win gold. It was just a great game between two world class teams. Props to France for dealing with the pressure and executing.

everyone crying about the dangerous play. you guys are gonna have to get over things like this if we want our sport to grow. people are getting more and more athletic and this is the natural trend when that happens. there's going to be contact. people are entitled to attempt athletic plays. the offender wasn't in the space before the defender, and the offender could have also just as easily avoided the space. it's an unfortunate instance, but it's no one's fault other than the thrower for putting up a terrible huck that could be contested. if the defense isn't allowed to make that play, then this sport will never be taken seriously.

Legitimacy doesnt come from allowing dangerous plays to happen. Every major sport has punishments for their respective "dangerous plays", the reason its dangerous is that people can seriously get hurt. The defender is fully at fault, peeling off to blindly bid in a direction of a defensless receiver is terrible athleticism and awareness
@ashleyyeo4090 Жыл бұрын
It's the defender's fault. Also your argument about the sport needing to become more physical for it to grow is directly contradictory to almost every other major popular sport in the world who consistently are making themselves safer and reducing the amount of contact. Think Football, American Football, Basketball, Rugby. All have changed the rules or interpretations of the rules in order to make things safer and reduce the risk of contact and injury. I'm not saying that Ultimate needs a a rule change to make it safer but I don't see any logic in the argument of allowing it to become more dangerous. This doesn't stop athletic plays, it discourages mindless ones.

@@ashleyyeo4090 Precisely !! Though I think ultimate should accept more small fouls like to players going for a sky is bound to have some minor contact between hands and stuff. Reckless, no vision bids are stricly out of the question tough.
