During Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em’s viral, instant-classic appearance on The Breakfast Club this January, he made many bold claims. He said he started the internet wave for rappers, that he was the first artist on KZbin, and that he “taught Drake everything he knows.” Despite the rapper’s reputation for stretching the truth, he wasn’t wrong-he did popularize a lot of hip-hop trends. But there is another innovation he had a hand in that he only mentioned in passing during the hour-long interview: FruityLoops.

I do indeed remember the days where producers with "real" equipment laughed at people using Fruity Loops. They acted like if you didn't have physical music equipment you were NOT to be respected....ah, how times have changed. Thankful for those who did their thing despite the hate.
@hueyfinesse
@hueyfinesse 5 жыл бұрын
Its still like that though... The best beatmakers still use analog equipment, and its a unified opinion among producers that analog sounds beter.

Idk tho man. I see the need for fl studio. But it seems to be what kind of watered down and sterilized hip hop. Their was nothing better than a group like the roots and scott storch banging out beats with real instruments. Or Dj premier on a mpc and cutting vocal samples over it. Their was tactile live interaction with what they were creating. Now beats in 2019 are so uninspired and bland. Everyone uses the same drums. Same uninspired 4 note melody loops. Auto tune. No, funk or soul. I mean you could make this type of shit on a iphone now.
@shaash8323
@shaash8323 5 жыл бұрын
@@PooFace2030 Disagree with some of what your saying (and this is coming from a producer whos biggest inspiration is scott storch). Fl studio just makes everything easier, and it is not too limiting. So this results in people using it that arent too serious or good at music because it is easy. This results in the "uninspired" beats you are talking about. But other producers are able to use this same tool and create absolute masterpieces. While people that use analog equipment are more serious about music, fl studio reaches a more diverse audience, so there is more bad, but there is also more good

Jason B you only think that because 15 year olds can shit out garbage beats with it. But The most talented producers can and do produce masterpieces from it FL is still just as legit as using real instruments to make music.

I mainly use third party plugins but FL Studio's workflow is really fluid and easy to use, it has it's irritations like every DAW but it's really user friendly and easy to use.

during my transition from mpc to software..pro tools was boring, its more for final mixdown, mastering, orchestral composing. then I tried cubase, more fun, better interface. reason, sounds great, looks great, but no vst plug ins at the time, so..tried ableton..the warping, drum racks, scenes..its like playing with legos, & quick ideas get down fast before you forget. I always thought FL was kinda low grade, but its just the look of the DAW and name that really kill it for some. If another pro DAW wouldve put Step Sequencing at the forefront of its midi scheme, it wouldve been where FL is today.

FL Studio 20 has a free version you can download on their website. You can't reopen your saved beats unless you buy the full program, but it's definitely a great way to get a feel for FL studio if you plan on buying it in the future.

JaiDon Music WTF you mean it's murdering an MPC? Which MPC are you talking about??? If you are talking about the sequencers/samplers (60-2000XL), you are comparing a mf sequencer/drum sampler to a mf DAW, which is stupid af. If you are talking about MPC X...that is not a mf DAW. Perhaps you need to compare that FL BS to another DAW like Reason, Ableton, Studio One, Reaper, etc. BTW, I use MPC 2000 with a physical Korg Synth Workstation. Trust me, that BS FL Studio and it's BS soft synths cant f*&^ with my ish. I also use Studio One or Reaper for mixing and mastering. So I got the best of both worlds. Hardware and software.

@tyjusto9351

Busy works beats is your best bet. But the best way to learn it, is to just keep using it. How I learned, was I sampled soul records, still do. Looked up how to sample in FL. Used SliceX at first, but preferred Edison later. Then started building the drums, getting used to the grid, acclimating to the mixer And it's stocc plugins (which are actually amazing, Gross beat and Parametric EQ 2 are my favs) etc. Then after that, look for drum paccs to use. A lot use 808 mafia, Lex Luger, DJ Spinz, metro boomin etc. For trap and all that. For hip hop 90s shit, I use Alchemist kits, Jake ones Snare Jordan series, and some other joints from other major producers. Later you'll get into sound design to create your own sound, but the best thing to do rn is learning your DAW and creating a workflow

@TronSoundsUniversal
@TronSoundsUniversal 5 жыл бұрын
I've only ever used Ableton, but when I watch FL tutorials I like how you can see other patterns that you've created at the same time as the one you're working with. Seems like a better work flow in that sense. I'm always skipping back and forth to remember what notes in my chord progressions and sometimes it makes me lose my creativity and focus. I really don't know all the differences, but I'm pretty much stuck with Ableton anyway because my brother buys it and lets me put it on my computer. Can't beat free, but I am curious about FL in a way. I'm mostly making Trap these days and it seems good for that.

@@TronSoundsUniversal There is an FL Producer Edition free demo. Only problem is you can't open project files, I thiink if you save it into the ableton plugins section you can use it as a VST then you can open the projects from ableton, no idea how it works but somehow that is how i have it. But if not it is still good for trying FL Out, you have all of the plugins (gross beat, etc) in the demo so you should give it a go :)

Part of their popularity was not putting much work into copy protection. It is the #1 pirated and downloaded daw and that was the strategy that gave them the advantage over the others. I was using FL studio and Reason since they both came out and I personally prefer Reason. Unfortunately it took Reason a long time to add vst support so that was another reason people would use fruity loops instead.

Although FL has started getting a lot better you can still hear if a beat was made in FL like Travis Scott said "It's stock sounds are 1 dimensional" IT'S NOT DESIGNED FOR MUSCIANS. So if you have no musical understanding or talent FL is your go-to
@scarletdawnmusic
@scarletdawnmusic 5 жыл бұрын
I mean, unless you're using the same stock sounds everyone is, that can be said literally about any DAW or VST. FL is tool, just like Logic, just like Reason. It's a pointless dick measuring contest to say "but this DAW is for REALLLL musicians". Especially when they help you do the exact same thing: make sounds or music.
