Although I usually like your videos, and have learned plenty from them... This one doesn't feel right. Zed is so unlike basically every other melee in the game. He's EXTREMELY safe in lane compared to the average melee champ. He's able to safely farm from range, harass from range, and has a very reliable escape(If saved for that purpose during farming), and it really just doesn't feel right using him as the example of how a melee can beat a ranged. I mean, still a useful video - Still shows the essential right tips... But I would've really liked to have seen a different melee vs range matchup, as the Zed lane is much safer than many other melee lanes.

@@teteualmeida00 The thing is that some of them use mana. I agree that if they used energy like Zed (Akali, for instance), that they would have it easier. But Sylas, Ekko, Irelia; all of them use mana. This makes it riskier to use spells to last hit, as you are running the possibility of missing a burst trade due to low mana.

@@teteualmeida00 While I can agree with that as well, it just doesn't feel like the quintessential "Melee vs Range" matchup, as all of those champions are specifically given methods to deal with ranged champions on their own terms. Matchups like Juggernaut vs Teemo/Vlad/Kennen/Insert Ranged opponent, or Talon vs Velkoz/Xerath/Insert other long range midlaner, would just feel more appropriate for the topic. I'm in no way saying it's a bad video - All of the advice given is entirely relevant, it just feels like it could be better shown using a matchup that doesn't have a way to do everything on the melee's terms like this one does.

Correct answer is neither. Azir should have spam pinged jungler to help shove the lane and look to back afterwards. Azir was obviously out of mana so staying will only give zed perma priority even with red buff healing. By getting the jungler help shove, Azir gets a good back timing without losing exp and without dying.

Although this video has some of the basics on how to play the Melee vs Ranged matchup, it does a poor job when it comes to the example chosen and explaining what should have happened later in the video: * Zed is a unique melee champion that has safe wave clear with his Q and W. Know that Q's damage is relatively high enough for him to last hit with safely. Unlike someone like Ekko (One of my mains, so I know him better than other melees) who has a hard time last hitting with his Q - pre lvl 9 (rank 5 Q) + 90+ AP (one shotting backline minions) - since the damage is not high enough to last hit safely and guarantee the gold. * When Azir got 1st blood, he needed to catch the cannon wave that just crashed under his turret. There are 2 things that should have happened here to allow Azir to back safely: 1) Azir needed to use what's left of his mana to last hit the minions and secure the cannon, not focus on poking Zed, since he didn't have enough mana. 2) Azir's jungler (Sejuani) should have come to help him shove the wave under turret. As a main jungler myself, I found that Sej contributed to Azir's death, even though he played that poorly himself. Zed won't contest the push from Azir + Sej since he was low on health anyway (the potion would've been wasted then, and Caps knows it). Caps only used his potion because he saw Sej not helping Azir shove the wave. So yeah, Azir should have pinged his jungler to come help him shove the wave, even though a good jungler would've noticed that Azir had no mana and would've helped shove the wave without the mid laner asking... But I digress!

Agreed, this was not the best example of ranged vs melee matchup. I thought the same thing with your second point. Sej should have just come back to mid after getting the kill and pushed the wave. After they crash the wave now Azir has the tempo advantage because he based first and desynced the mid lane recall timings. One more thing is Zed is a good matchup against azir once you hit 6 you have kill pressure all the time and start zoning azir then roam around the map. If Azir wants to make Zed stay in the lane then they need to push and jungler needs to be around.

Tips against teemo top as a melee champion. 1. Let the teemo farm and try to freeze the lane near your turret. 2. Farm smart under tower. Don’t go for risky cs and don’t look to go in and trade. Don’t let teemo get in easy Qs and autoattacks on you. 3. Instead of trading, try poking teemo with your ranges abilities. (Most melee champions have a ranged abilities. If you don’t, then just play extremely passive and under turret. You really can’t do much so make it a goal to not die.) 4. Once you got teemo low enough with your poke, wait until he uses his Q and then flash in and try to finish him off. If you fail, then you should go back to turret which shouldn’t be too far away if you followed step one. 5. Once teemo reaches level 6, always follow your minions path and stay behind them. This allows your minions to trigger any mushrooms in the way. Don’t go into brushes or river as there are probably mushrooms there as well. Some tips to make your experience with teemo as a melee champion smoother. Make sure you use your flash smart. Death is better than a stupid flash. Once you successfully kill teemo, farm so you can catch up to his cs. Then recall and tp back. Hope this helps cuz it really helps me. A good melee champion against teemo is chogath. He’s very tanky and his passive gives him so much sustain. Also his Q is great for poking down teemo.

What I would do is place a control ward where I could defend it and try to use my ranged abilities when he goes for it. Just remember to keep playing safe since he can easily turn on you and never chase him even if he's low

Get the wave pushing towards you, when you are past river use brush to move around and line up some cs and get your jgler up there. The reason you dont take jinx into a solo lane is because he has no mobility tools. theres about 30 things you could do. Especialy with sion. So you can go into their base clear out the first wave of minions after dieing to the inhibitor turret. Then afterwards you can leash your jungler dieing in the process so you can teleport back up top. At which point you should have 5 potions with a starting item. But most players dont play like me so maybe you dont want to int. Then your gonna want to get an early bramblevest and boots. You need to catch up to her so you cant be kited (take ninja tabi or if she rushes boots take boots of swiftness). If you play sion properly you should have enough damage to kill her. If you dont play sion properly then you should instead focus on hitting level 6 possibly dieing to a kruggs early to pull the level 6 earlier if you get poked out and just barely have any health under turret. Immediately after hitting level 6 use your ult to gank the hell out of botlane. You should be able to get a kill or 2 off the enemy botlaner immediately afterwards backing and teleporting top if you need to.

Zed was in a really shit situation he is at 50% hp, his jungler just died, and he knows Sejuani is near, so isn't it better for Azir to freeze and deny Zed the farm? I would love to see how you would play a Tryndamere vs Teemo game lol. Guarantee you would be at least 2 full items behind by end game with these strats. I usually all-in teemo after 1 or 2 cs. If i crit, he will be dead without flash in which case i flash also and will trade 1 for 1. I then proceed to all-in him every time he crosses the middle of the lane so that we are both behind. I will be more useful in the long run since i can take damage and survive through death, while he will do 0 damage with shrooms and get 1 shot by team late game lol. If i fail and get no crits and he kites, I HAVE to get jungler help. You can't even farm as a melee when against a teemo without losing half you hp from one wave lol. A good teemo will make sure every cs you take will be at the cost of hp.

I'll explain it to you buddy. Yasuo is great for harassing and trading pre-6 especially with the mid-late game mages like lux, azir etc. First freeze your lane(lvl 1) dont poke too much dont get cocky just because you have your passive. After the first wave's freezed, the next wave will sit near your tower (the enemy jungler probably near mid so dont force yet. At this time you're level 2) Try to poke by dashing the lowest hp minion ( E aa Q aa E to dash away. Target the lowest hp) in that way you poke and you keep the lane freezed. The minipn dmg will be blocked by your passive because the enemy laner will surely trade back but you have your lvl 2 spike. You're probably lvl 3 at this point so expect junglers planning to catch you off guard since they finish their entire red camp and looking for early ganks or scuttlers. At this you play passively till 4 then repeat the trading. At 5 or 6 the enemy laner should have no potions and maybe 60% hp. Trade like you're going to all in. Then play with their cooldowns. If someone like lux got knocked up, she ded. Dont worry about their jungler if you're diamond up your jungler expects you to do that and would stay near mid for possible counters. IF YOU ULT SOMEONE THAT HAVE CC AND THEY HAVE MORE THAN 30% HP AFTER THAT DONT GREED CAUSE AT THIS TIME YOU'LL PROBABLY TRADING NEAR HER TOWER. Fast push your lane then back or roam. Repeat this till you see another opening. If you trade quite far the enemy towet then she probably lose 1 or maybe both of her summs. Trade aggressively like youre going all in. Respect their jungler, play with her cooldowns. You're most likely lvl 8 at this point and if your jungle is a fricky dicky and not setting up the dragon, try to set it up yourself. Try to not freeze. Fast push. Then agressive warding. After that maybe freeze one lane just to have more ppssible pokes to your laner then force her to back. Then all pf you except toplane are expected to go drag. Then continue harassing near your tower only all in if she 50% hp. I teach you how to properly dominate your lane since if you're a good yasuo you can almost out trade mages in early lvl (pre 9)

There are 2 options for Azir: 1. freeze/ let Zed push, Usually you do this to avoid strong early junglers like xin, twitch etc. It is safe to farm under / near turret and yes Zed has to walk up very far, however you also give him priority in lane. (- he can roam and get kills elsewhere) Usually you want to poke Zed while slowpushing, and then when he is low, you let the wave bounce so that he will die if he tries to break your freeze. Option 2 was shown here: You slowpush early, this way you put pressure onto Zed, you can poke him but you’re in danger of getting ganked. The benefit ist that you can establish a nice lead early, and really control your lane. Zed will be stronger than you once he gets his lvl 6, so you will usually use the time before that to get yourself or your team abit ahead. At lvl you can’t really slowpush into Zed, his lvl 3 all in is already dangerous, if he lands early qs, but his lvl 6 all in is deadly. Unless of course you counter with your ult. So to sum my messed text up: Freeze early when you need safety Push when you want pressure , and ensure an early lead, however pay attention to Zeds lvl 3 combo. Azir scales, so as long as Zed gets no kills, Azir wins.

Although I love your vids and they helped a lot, I do have to agree with the majority here, you choose a poor match-up. Not only does Zed counter Azir, so it's already a bad one unless it was "how to counter your counter" and show Azir dominate the lane with smart plays, but it's Zed, one of the safest champs in the game. Zed did nothin special that game other than "stay back", but that's what all Zeds who have a brain cell of skill do. You just need to remake the video showing an actual melee vs ranged, not ranged vs Zed. I know Zed is one of the most played champs in the game, but, I don't care, many don't care. What Zed did is not something every champ can do, hell, a lot of champs can't do that. What would Irelia do there? Use E? Sure, long cooldown, high mana, ok, what next? Or is she using Q? Then she gets right next to the opponent. In that match-up, Irelia would be in a much worse spot than Zed. Or what Ekko, Akali, who don't have the stupidly high range and safety Zed has, nor the the safe burst? Yeah, that's the point with fizz. He's incredibly weak until he reaches lvl 6. From that point, he can 1v1 just about any champ as long as he lands his ult.

Welp actually it's about Azir making mistake after first blood and not about Caps playing properly on melee vs ranged concept. He got greedy and take some free harass at the beginning. Azir actually played the lane better fundamentally. Kinda disappointed though, because I thought it's about Caps playing properly and outplay on melee vs ranged matchup.

There is already a commenter that has given some tips on that. Basically: Farm safely and freeze under tower Poke him instead of trading (if you have a ranged ability) and then finish him off when he's low Follow the pathing of your minions once he reaches lvl 6 so that they can trigger all his shrooms for you Use your flash wisely; dying is better than wasting flash.

Then the wave would end up near or under Zeds tower, however Azir would have less minions to protect him, and Zed could engage onto azir. Also it would cost more mana for Azir. So just slowpush first. Fastpush just when you want to leave as it will mostly leave you exposed.

First, why zed? Zed uses energy, not mana. Second mordekaiser is melee, but his abilities are ranged. How would you win in a situation if you were to play an actual melee champion such as yasuo with little to no range in any of his abilities while not being too behind in cs and not being zoned off and missing exp? Impossible right?

Yasuo is more even match-up yeah... Zed is probably the best counter pick for Azir at high elo... Hard to understand what you must learn from a lesson on how to win a countered lane with 60%/40% pick... And I would say ranged champs are in way more terror about laning most melee champs than other way around... But for Yasuo same hardest lanes are vs other melee champs and a list of ranged ones they counter is long one.

Recalling because of a health disadvantage means losing minion experience, which mostly results on a level disadvantage, and this is especially impactful in levels 1-6, and even more against assassins (matchups where you play around level leads). It's just one of the ways of winning a lane, they just boil down to getting exp and gold leads on your enemy laner, and using them for winning the lane. Hope that answers your question.

But most melee midlaners either have a ranged ability or gap closer since they're designed to be able to burst mages down. If you're talking about champions without ranged poke like Fizz and Irelia, they both have their power spikes at a certain point where they can easily go all-in.

Thing is, they don't specify the type of melee champ, they should have if you ask me because the vast majority of mid melee champs is composed of assassins and in that matchup of range against melee it revolves around Harass VS Burst There is a reason why there are no tanks or bruisers (apart from Irelia who has some tools against them) in midlane, it's because you can't effectively harass a range with a melee, the only options are burst trades or straight all-ins and tanks/bruisers aren't exactly made for that. When you think about it, apart from assassins what melee champs can we see in mid against range champs (except Irelia)?
