This was a very interesting video, as someone from the UK, I kinda wanna add my two cents on how video games were typically advertised over there. One trend I noticed is the heavy use of celebrities, this is best shown in the British Super Nintendo ads which heavily featured British Comedian Rik Mayall. British ads also tended to go more for a sci-fi style, for example the Sega Mega Drive Barber Commercial and the Commodore Amiga CD32 Commercials. Moreover, as a result of the UK being a bit more edgy in the 90s, these ads rarely showed kids, it was mostly adults and consoles were portrayed like a device for the adults rather than an entertainment device for kids. However now British Gaming Commercials is just gameplay footage with some annoying, rubbish, mainstream pop song that has absolutely nothing to do with the game playing in the background.
@CyberpunkStudiosLtd
@CyberpunkStudiosLtd 2 жыл бұрын
Those old ads were largely shot on cinema film too, with elaborate sets built and lit through smoke - a style not seen commonly until after Demolition Man in 1994. However the UK and US markets weren't the same back then, and now we just tend to get the US adverts (sometimes with a new British voiceover). Considering gaming earns more now, you'd think they'd put some effort into their ads, but apparently not 😔

I agree, I had never seen it back in the 90s. What lacks from this video are the Jerry Calà SEGA commercials: masterpieces of trash TV. "Ocio però, solo Giochi Preziosi". All the SEGA commercials were made by Berlusconi's trash TV channels. There even was "USA Today" (with Giorgio Mastrota and Stefano Gallarini), an entire TV show whose sole purpose was the promotion of Sega Consoles. Nintendo basically didn't exist in Italy before the SNES. Sure the NES was distributed by Mattel, but it didn't really catch on.

Between the Pole Position ad where the car flies into the billboard and explodes, the Segata Sanshiro ad where he judo flips some poor idiot into the ground who explodes, and the French Sega Master who explodes after spinning too much while trying to play Genesis/Mega Drive, I've learned one thing: there really aren't enough explosions in modern game commercials XD I also can't believe you failed to call that, "I ran out of ideas for titles" part the, _"What the hell was that!?"_ Chapter, lol. It seemed _pretty clear_ to me what it should be called, lol. God, I love that Krusty clip. This was an epic video, St1ka! Definitely appreciate the hard work that must've gone into the research and editing a 30-min min-retrospective on global video game ads. Honestly, you could've done way less and still been supremely entertaining, and hey, even though this was thorough and fun, it's still such a vast corner of the gaming world to check out. You could always go way more specific and revisit this topic again in the future - best modern (or post 2000s) game ads, weirdest commercials from (x, y or z country), most misleading commercials, etc. At any rate, these are always fascinating to look at (with or without context), and you definitely delivered *a lot* of entertainment covering them here - awesome job!

The young Asian boy is a ninja breaking into the young man's cyber-lair in one, and there's even a Wild West "How'd he do that?" advert (I think it's stylised as Howdeedodat?). i'm surprised nintendo allowed whoever to do that texas chainsaw commercial with the family friendly image they tried to have also anyone one else find it funny how the consoles with ads that talk bad about competition are usually the biggest failures of the time

Oh trust me, that's the LEAST of Nintendo's worries in Brazil. I actually made a video about that just a few weeks ago. Let's just the history of the NES in Brazil is absolutely insane

In Canada...Nintendo's Tagline Here Was "Too Much Fun." Our Canadian Commericals For Nintendo Were...Kinda Weird. As For Sega In Canada? We Don't Have Sega Consoles Here. Although,If Sega Did Exist In Canada and Had Canadian Commercials Here,Their Tagline Would Be: "There's No Power,And There Is SEGA Power!" Funny Enough,I'm Imaging Your Commericals In Portugal For Sega Dreamcast Would Have The "It's Thinking" Commericals and Tagline Dubbed In Portguese.
