Awesome video as always, Stretch! It's great to see it's getting a lot of traction, too! I have a fondness for bootlegs, but the scene wasn't as interesting in Hawaii as it was in places like Portugal and I didn't grow up around as much Famicom clone stuff as you did. That's my biggest complaint after trying all these bootlegs, I can't get the special moves working. :( It was a neat scene though, it was akin to an arms race or the quest for flight, making SF2 not a dumpster fire on NES. ^_^ When researching NES hardware I learned what a huge task it was to make this at all, you admire what each port did well and even the failures. True dat "Not bad." is high praise in this arena. A stationary store hmm, well I rented movies from a gas station, closest place to go. "How many people?", "12 peoples.". XD Great video, nice to hear some first hand experiences rather than dull post modern mockery. :)

Oh I completely agree, I've even made a few references to that. Considering how these games were developed on limited hardware and without any official development kits, it's a wonder so many of them came out as well as they did.

Now this is a fascinating video! Love the topic, as it's always interesting to dive into pirated software for past-their-prime hardware or hardware that shouldn't be able to run these things, just to see what decisions were made and how these groups/sole programmers opted to try to translate these elements. It's weird that none of the bootlegs of Fatal Fury or World Heroes 2 ever looked at, say, the GAME BOY versions of those games and tried to just color _them_ and dump them on the NES, though. I suppose there's some degree of ambition here in seeking to translat the arcade original to the NES, but c'mon hacker groups - the Nettou/Pocket Fighter versions of Fatal Fury and World Heroes 2 Jet (the actual World Heroes, lol) are *the ones to emulate here,* intrepid software pirates! Those were made around GBC limitations - they've already solved a lot of the problems you're having squishing _these_ onto the NES. Just get that type of thing working on the console, add color, and voila! Instantly, you'd have one of the strongest bootleg fighting games ever made for the NES! Imagine something like this running on the NES: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIaYmGuEeZt0rKc or this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZC8Y6Glhtypd9U. That seems like it would've been a lot more doable than trying to crush an arcade game like SF2 onto the humble platform, but oh well. Like I said, at least you gotta give these hacker groups points for being more ambitious I suppose. At any rate, fantastic little dive into these guys. There's a terrific video by Sharopolis about games that pushed the limit of the Sega Master System that dives into fighting games too - the Brazilian TecToy port of Street Fighter 2, Probe's MK2 port and an original and pretty impressive Korean fighter called Jang Pung 3 (that's a sequel to a terrible pirated SF2 clone for the SMS). He goes into great detail breaking down how they did it, going so far as to hack things using an emulator to show off sprite layers and background layers, and it's REALLY fascinating to see how they worked those fighting games onto _Sega's_ 8-bit console. Looking at these games you've shown off in this video here, it seems like some of the same technical tricks went into making these NES versions of SF2 work as well (or as poorly) as they do. If you're interested, St1ka, here's a link to his video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmW9lmRnj52ZnLc

Glad you liked the video! Oh and I actually thought about mentioning the Sega Master System version of Street Fighter 2 by Tectoy but the video was getting rather long. I would like to do a sequel video sometime and mention even more games and Jang Pung 3 is going to be one of them. ^^

That SF2 from Yoko soft you mentioned. I used to play it on my NES quite a bit with my brothers and sister. And it is surprisingly decent, all the characters have an ending, the special moves were kind of easy to do, and although it is a buggy game, that didn't bother me much, although, since Zangief has a limited moveset, he should at least be stronger than the rest of the characters. Oh, and if anyone will ever try this version, the charged attacks of ChunLi and Guile only works if the player never charge at any direction, just do the moves without hold a few seconds down or back. Oh yeah, btw, Street Fighter 4 is basically a far more refined version of SF2 from Yoko soft. If I am not mistaken Gouder Co. is Yoko Soft, which I am not sure it is true, but the graphics and gameplay were very similar between SF2 and SF4.

Those bootleg versions street fighters only made things even more confusing. Fun fact: there were plenty of ported/pirated console games in pc and apple back in the mid 1980s. Did these bootlegs games affect Portugal's pick rate for Dhalsim? It seems like bootleg Steetfighter games are conditioning the Portuguese to favor Dhalsim(2:52) (7:56).

imo Hummer Team made the best NES bootlegs. The most ambitious and accurate ports of SNES games. Waixing is a close second. Yoko soft were the same hummer team people but they couldn't draw or color their sprites for shyeeet. They always drew sprites with goofy faces.

About Cony's street fighter pro....When I get hit by E Honda's hand slaps, it hurts him instead of me. Lol Some background animations are suggestive. In China, it looks like the shop keeper is raping the chicken and in guile's stage, it looks like the soldier is scratching his ass. Also this POS has no ending...the screen just goes black after you beat the last character.
