How Gamera Could Fit in the MonsterVerse (Speculation)

Here's what I think they should do if Gamera were to enter the Monsterverse First, rather than make him a friend to children, make him a friend to humanity in general. While Godzilla and Kong don't attack humans, Kong will fight back if provoked and Godzilla will destroy half a city and inadvertently kill people in an attempt to fight other kaiju, Make Gamera a defender, trying to protect humans while battling the other monster. As for his origin, I say keep the Atlantian angle from the 90s series, but change it up a little. The Atlantians created a giant monster to protect them from the other Kaiju running rampant at the time. While it was still an embryo, the altered and upgraded with bio-mechanics, allowing him to fly and programming him to defend. When Atlantis was destroyed, Gamera had no purpose in life, so he went into hibernation. And then when all this kaiju stuff starts happening, he is awoken and resumes his task, but now he defends humanity.

I think this is an awesome idea with the whole Atlantian theme. This could be a great opportunity to tie in the mythology part of the Kaijus and as you put it, partly explain how ancient civilizations survived during those times as they had this unofficial protector in Gamera. The location of Atlantis, just like Skull Island where Kong lives, could be another "port way" location where Kaijus have been known to travel from and wreak havoc on mankind. Heck I may even go out on a limb and say Gamera even teamed up with an earlier version of Godzilla at some point and a bunch of Kong warriors back in those days, which would make for an awesome prequel. But one can dream.....

The Legendary Godzilla won't go out of his way to avoid killing humans, but that's different from saying he has no problem killing them. Legendary Kong, meanwhile, only kills humans who attack him first.

Yes, but I don't think Gamera (My imaginary version) would care. To Gamera, Godzilla and Kong are threats just as much as any other monster. I don't think he'd discriminate intentionally killing, self defense, and cold blooded murder. All he'd care about is that they were killing creatures he was assigned to protect, and he'd fight back.

Personally, I see two options that would work thematically and within the world Legendary created: 1. Gamera is another guardian Titan, like Godzilla, but with the particular origin of being created by the Atlanteans for the sole purpose of protecting them from the more neutral Kaiju. In this way, he is a little bit like what would happen if the Mechagodzilla project had actually worked. I recall that in Gamera's origin in the original films, that he is shown to be a silicon based organism. This would play well, as he could be portrayed as a very sophisticated machine, indistinguishable from other living things, due to basically being grown from cell-like units composed of silicon or exotic elements. It would make sense for him to awaken in the wake of Godzilla's relentless pursuit of the Ghidorah skulls, being activated by his wonton destruction. Just as Godzilla keeps the other Titans in check, Gamera keeps him in check. He didn't get involved before because Kong was able to resolve the situation and something prevented Gamera from getting involved (slow activation, damage, etc). Or perhaps, Gamera is specifically concerned about large scale alien Kaiju invasions, only coming out of hiding to address particularly dire threats that Godzilla and Mothra cannot handle alone. 2. Gamera is a benevolent alien Titan, a counterpoint to Ghidorah. When full scale invasion by whatever intelligence sent Ghidorah to Earth, or if Ghidorah himself summons up assistance (such as Gigan), Gamera is sent by some ancient ally of Earth, or comes here himself in pursuit of Ghidorah or Gigan or Gyaos.

That depends. Just because Gamera would fit in alongside King Kong, Rodan, Mothra, and Godzilla, doesn't mean that they should fight someone like Destroyah and make it unfair to him. Hell, the Heisei Godzilla and his son Godzilla Jr. both fought Destroyah at the end of that series with Jr. not only being overpowered by the creature created as a result of the Oxygen Destroyer, but being killed by said monster. Father Godzilla only beat Destroyah out of being distraught and vengeful for witnessing his son's death before his eyes and was also on the verge of death himself. At least give Destroyah some allies to go against the Kaiju Avengers dream team, and give it a Kaiju Justice League fill, and no I don't mean the live action League movie.

Watching them all back to back makes me want him in Monsterverse even more and for him to fight Godzilla! Legendary already stole the “friend to all children” trope in Godzilla vs Kong. Kong seems to have a very deep connection with the small girl you see in the trailer. I’m pretty sure they’re adding all of these Gamera ideas and references is to make up for the fact that Toho won’t let Legendary work with Kadokawa (similarly to how people who work on Marvel movies can’t work on DC Movies)

The movie does spend a lot of time on Planet X, including a fight scene, but the vast majority of the film takes place on Earth. I think they could do a film that takes place on an alien planet from start to finish, with no human characters. Just the planet's natives and the kaiju.

My idea for gamera in the monsterverse is basically a mix of the heisai gamera and Godzilla 1994, i would possible keep the Gyaos created by atlantis and add the detail that Gamera was a bio Mechanically made Titan using both DNA from turtles and Titanus Gojira, make it so that Gamera is a partial clone of Godzilla, both to make gamera story a bit more interesting and somehow tying it to Godzilla AND a little wink to the fans because that what Gamera technically is. maybe this could lead to Gamera having kind of having a feeling of pointlessness ideal after Godzilla becomes the KOTM but realizing that half of his very being is artificially made BUT he was created with the purpose of protecting the Earth and possible The Universe.

I have the idea of how Gamera can fit in the Monsterverse that combines the origins of the Showa, Hesei, and Millennium versions. The Ancient People of Atlantis use Hollow Earth Energy crystals as a power source for their primitive yet advanced technology. They refer to Hollow Earth energy/Titan Radiation as Mana. They would cybernetically alter the biological structure of a race of Alpha Titans from the Triassic Period called Gamera to hunt down and destroy genetically modified titans known as Gyaos. The Gyaos were originally genetically modified and bred for war and their bodies release venomous chlorine to intoxicate enemies. However, the Gyaos began to overpopulate and started attacking their masters as their food source. The Gyaos are a threat to the natural order due to them overpopulating and release chlorine out of their bodies which is causing damage to the Ozone Layer. While Godzilla rules the Surface World and Kong rules the Hollow Earth, Gamera’s job in the natural order is to make sure no alien titans enter the Earth’s atmosphere or let let any natural titans leave Earth. That is reason why he hunts down the Gyaos, their chlorine is damaging the Ozone layer. In other words, Godzilla is Kyogre, Kong is Groudon, and Gamera is Rayquaza. Gamera has a symbiotic relationship with Garasharp as a reference to the fan film. The Ancient people of China saw Gamera and Garasharp as the Black Tortoise of the North in Chinese Mythology. Gamera’s rockets are powered by Radioactive crystals while his blood has sulfur injected in it. Hints why it’s green. His sulfuric blood allows him to manipulate and even consume fire and other plasmas. ​​⁠ Like Godzilla, Gamera wants to bring balance to the Natural Order but unlike Godzilla, Gamera cares about humans and their civilizations and usually prefers to work with humans rather than with other titans and he doesn’t take sh!t from any alpha titan. This could be a good way to start conflict between these two. Plus, Gamera has been modified by humans and Godzilla’s very skeptical of humans after Mechagodzilla. In other words, Gamera is the Gus Fring to Godzilla’s Walter White. “You attack humanity because they are disrupting the natural order? I protect humanity because they are apart of the natural order. We are not the same.” When there are no threats to the Earth’s atmosphere, Gamera would usually chill by sleeping in his shell floating over the Earth’s Atmosphere like a sattelite. In Inuit Mythology, there’s an evil Gamera known as the Devil’s Envoy. A reference to 1965 film where Gamera was still a destructive villain. The Devil’s Envoy’s design is based on Trauma Gamera. APEX Cybernetics got their advance technology from reverse engineering Atlantis’ technology. When Gamera dies, he leaves behind an egg that his species can asexually lay. The baby Gamera would have the genetic memory of its parent much like Mothra.

The first Gamera in 65 was a terror, but revered by native tribes in the Artic , and was captured in a giant rocket and flown into space to stop the destruction it caused. Basically , a large prehistoric beast is freed from it's slumber by atomic blasts that can breath fire and stomps around , just like in the original Godzilla from 1954. Similar story lines , different outcome. So Gamera if should be in the monsterverse , he should enter just like he did in 1965, a giant beast known to natives in the Artic , discovered by Monarch in the Artic ice hibernating.

Each of the titans in the monsterverse are basically giant animals with some level of human traits... Gamera is literally a giant turtle. That's all the inspiration needed. It doesn't need to be too fantastical, but they should give him just as much focus as Godzilla and Kong (true opinion)... If he's worked along the same lines as Godzilla. A natural force of balance, but with a softer side towards children. My first thought upon reading this is about how "using the classic character as farce" often equates to "missing the point and disrespecting the series and its fans". Case and point, the recent film adaptions of The Green Hornet and the Lone Ranger. Now, an entire generation of moviegoers thinks these characters are idiots, when they're actually fascinating staples of American Pop Culture. Now, if the series is already funny and farcical, like Deadpool, that's a different story, but forcing something to be silly when it's not...my own experiences make me wary of that. The Showa Gamera films can be funny, sure, but that wasn't the intent, and the Heisei movies were very serious, though not opposed to being funny when appropriate. I feel a parody would have to be its own thing myself.

Kong Skull Island had way more comedy than Godzilla 2014, so MonsterVerse's Gamera could be even funnier without being a direct parody. Similar to how Ant-man and Suicide Squad have more comedy and ridiculous elements than the rest of Marvel-DC without being parodies. For me, the PERFECT character to star in a full-on parody like The Lego Batman Movie or Megamind (Deadpool is more like a regular superhero movie but with more meta jokes) would be Jet Jaguar. He was literally designed by a child and, like Omni Verse said on the top 14 kaijus video, he could have an interesting update. I have some ideas in mind and may even pitch to Omni Verse an entire plot when I finish watching all the Godzilla movies in case he wants to make a video about it.

I could see Gamera, along with Mothra and Kong as kaiju gods/kami (which also gived Kong a level up to face Godzilla), with Gamera facing Godzilla in a draw at ome point. Tying Gamera to a kid really aint a bad idea, especially if more recurring human characters were added to Monarch to cover for scripts handling lesser monster combat or single monsters. Like the girl Segal''s daughter played in the Gamera trilogy. Me, I would add a version of Miki Saegesu the psychic girl, and Matthew Croderick's Dr. Tattapolis to Monarch. Manda, Oroshi, and the various Ghidorahs (King, Des, Kaiser) as actual dragons, Batra, Gabera, and Gyaos as evil kami, Baragon. Anguieas, Varan, and Rodan as fellow ancient radiovores with Godzilla, Zilla and Zedas as mutant lizards, Gorosaurus and Titanosaurus as mutant dinosaurs, Kumonga, Kamakeras, Megaguiras, and a reworked Megalon as mutant bugs, Kameba as a mutant turtle, Gezora, Ganime, and Ehbirah as mutant invertebrates,. Guiron, Viras, Jiger, Zigra, and Barugon are a little too silly. Legion however, good to go. Another interesting idea might be Daiei's other big gun, Daimaijin. Definitely a kami. Biolante could work as is pretty much. Dagarla and Gigan have cybernetics, I don;t know if the Monsterverse is the place for that or Orga. I;d stay away from the various Mecha G's and other mecha for that same reason. Space Godzilla and Destroyah are too reliant on a chronology that doesn't exist here. Dogora or Irys might be interesting. Leave out Giant Frankenstein, but Sanda and Gaila might work as a mutant hibagon and a huge sea troll. King Shiza (Caesar) is ready to drop in as a kami. Hedorah reworked a bit might not be bad. Fitting Bagan in, finally making it to the screen could be cool. the studio could also pick up the Rhedosaurus, the Blob, and Reptilicus for a song. They could do mythic kaiju like Jormangunr, Oeroboros, the Korgon, Tiamat, the Kraken, the Roc, Leviathin, Behemoth/Bahamut, or the Terrasque, and not have to pay anybody for rights. Or do kaiju versions of Yeti/Sasquatch, trolls, T Rex, serpents, or other dinos. In any event, Gamera is the natural go to. Working out a mutually attractive deal to get Daiei and Toho to go alog might be tricky. Gamera could be used as a replacement for Godzilla if Toho doesn't renew the deal after Godzilla versus Kong.

For proof that Kid Friendly Kaiju films can work look no further then Pokemon. Destiny Deoxys, the Dialga and Pearl Trilogy, plenty are basically Kaiju battles films. What I'm most curious about regarding a Hollywood take on Gamera is Gyaos, the Vampire Kaiju.

I think it would be amazing to have Gamers come into the monsterverse with a "boy and his dog" dynamic to a certain human. That could end up being heartwrenching and could give the monster verse a real fan favorite monster for general audiences, especially if they make Gamera child-like and intelligent in the same way that characters like Chewbacca are. My only fear is that this could lead to Gamera being killed for tear jerking fuel.

I thought they were great then they stopped, we got a trailer for the 50th that blew my mind then I find out it was only done for comic con and now nothing but silence. For all the absurd stuff I have seen in Godzilla movies, Gamera is not a good fit for the Godzilla universe. Somehow Gamera goes too far, even for the Showa period. Maybe it's because Gamera has a very Earth creature look but with a very unnatural means of transportation that does fit at all, i.e., rocket-propulsion. Gamera clashes too much. I do not even hate Gamera (Gamera vs Guiron is my favorite btw) I just do not want him in the same movie as Godzilla.

Best way to intro gamera would be his own movie that focuses on his backstory. They could throw in a cameo from an established kaiju. Best one for this would be mothra, if they don't fuck up gkotm by not including the mothra faeries . I feel flying is part of what keeps Gamera from being just Godzilla-As-A-Turtle. Besides, in the Nineties movies, he had some amazing entrances and exits thanks to his flight. He was also not a natural creature in those films, though. So if he did show up, and he could still fly, he'd need a similar origin.

Actually I think Gamera being able to fly could work just not for long distances and not very much control. If they made Gamera have an organ that allows him to excrete an explosive fiery gas like substance (similar to Godzilla's atomic fire breath) out of exhaust like holes on the back of his shell, he could use it to launch himself like a rocket in the direction he is aiming to cover large distances in a short time. It's just the landing that they'd need to figure out. I thought of this idea because of the Tremors movies. If you never seen them they have creatures that change form over time. Giant worms, that then turn into smaller worms with legs and then they become something that looks like a cross between a velociraptor and a worm with fins on either side of their body and a fin on their back. The last form is called an Assblaster that can excrete an explosive fiery gas like substance that they use to fly. Just imagine that on a much bigger scale for Gamera.

Thinking about your statement that the general public would never buy Gamera because he's not very well known outside of the fandom, my response is: Guardians of the Galaxy. Think about it. The MCU started out fairly grounded, and refused to go too over-the-top even when bringing in the Norse Gods. Then along comes a movie based characters even hardcore fans barely knew, one of which is a gun-toting raccoon and another of which is a tree that can only say three words...and it only gets stranger from there. People were saying it would be a disaster, yet it's one of Marvel's biggest successes. If the Guardians of the Galaxy can succeed, why not the Guardian of the Universe? Obscurity isn't the handicap people think it is.

I think an argument could be made that, at least prior to 2014, more people knew Gamera than the GotG, even if only by reputation; he was featured in five episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000, and parodies of him appeared in various cartoons. His exposure, though not the same as Godzilla's, is more extensive than you might first think. Meanwhile, I remember people actually getting mad that Rocket Raccoon was a playable character in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. These were characters very few knew about, and even fewer admitted to liking. Gamera may not be an American property, but many people remember him alongside Godzilla. His were the Saturday afternoon matinee movies, the stuff you were either enthralled by as a kid or cracked up at as an adult. He's had enough exposure that people will know who he is when you mention his name; if they don't, the extra prompt of "he's the flying turtle with tusks" usually does the trick. Really, all it takes to overcome obscurity is one really great movie.

it has been noted that Daiei had approached Toho recently - (last 8-10 years) - to do a crossover event/film, Toho declined. I personally think there is some pretty viscious behind the scenes animosity between these two film companies. I am starting to think and believe that part of the agreement between Toho and WB/Legendary is that there will be no Gamera, ever, to appear in any film that also Has Godzilla, or is linked to the Godzilla IP - Kong already had a place within the Toho IP, so they really could not deny another Kong to be linked to the IP.

gamera is a kaiju in my books I have the whole trilogy of both Godzilla and gamera I believe if there's a will there's a way hear me out Godzilla fights other kaijus so does gamera if combined there's more kaijus monsters for both to fight and new stories to tell for an example what if gamera had a robot clone like Godzilla did and what if we see the king of the monsters fight gameras enemies I believe all kaijus are related in some way or form . monsterverse is huge no question about it.... in fact nessie was in Godzilla animated series.if u add them ....its mega huge monsterverse...even the Hanna Barbara Godzilla monsters should not be overlooked.
