If you thought Gen Z was bad, just wait until you see Gen Alpha. Gen A is the first generation in human history to be born after the boom of the internet, and they're the children of Millennials. They will be the most technologically literate generation in history, and also the largest. virtual reality and AI will heavily influence their development throughout adolescence and that's probably not a good thing.

Your channel is going to explode. Excellent work, very insightful. Subbed yesterday and now following on Twitter. One piece of advice, try slowing down your rate of speech just a little, maybe 10-20%, and increase the time graphics are displayed by about the same, for us old guys that didn't grow up with a device in our faces. I slowed playback down to .75 to make it easier to follow but that's a little too slow. Other than that, very well done. A little fine tuning and you're there. You'll hit 100k subs within your first year, my dude, I have no doubt. Keep up the good work!

My 4 year old son is an outcast when he goes to the park because the majority have no concept of what imagination is and can only interact with the function of what is like a slide being a slide or a swing being a swing. When my son starts playing imaginary games kids become confused, they ignore him, they run away from him, or they rage at him and keep correcting him saying something like bench is not a train it’s a bench. Wild times.

@@RichardDiazWright: I feel like it. I have a daughter who’s an older gen a born in 2006 just before the rise of the smart phone era. She’s generally quite imaginative and we had lots of general imaginative play, but she also would look at a bench as a bench but not as a train. My son was born in 2012 so he’s like gen z technically, maybe, but is much more like gen alpha. A screen is his best friend and he goes absolutely crazy without it, like an alcoholic without their drink. I did my best to keep him off at a young age, but others in his life enabled his screen time no matter how much I raged about it. He really didn’t believe in imaginative play and even now, prefers the action parts of a movie or series with no care to the story. This life they’re growing up under really pains me.

Mmm... I understand and share your worries, but from another perspective that is also interesting to watch. Back in the day kids used imagination to play, I remember that. Today it's like augmented reality from smartphones has made them perceive some things in a very realistic way while they're also submerged in the fake reality of the internet. On the other hand, their vision of the world is like a modern version of Plato's cave, it's unbelievable that when I was a kid I was pretty much the outcast and the weirdo this video talks about, but now the average child has social skills as poor as mine ones back in the day (without smartphones nor social media). But I guess, I had (and have) a lot more self-control.

They had their issues, and I totally get why they might have chosen that route: I genuinelly don't blame them, mind You. They just didn't have enough knowledge to undestand where it might lead us as as species, they found themselves being parents on the pivotal point of history That is my personal perspective though: ir might just be as You Say. All I know is: even If it WAS us, we were right in the Crossroads. We might have seen the new techology and used it, without still realizing -as ir was still too new- the impact of it. But techically, on a purely "year by year" metric, I think you might be an A. If I'm not mistaken, Gen Z is considered to be up until (roughly) until 2005. You being born after that could be considered an elder A. In the end though, it doesn't matter all that much: as long as you do you, put in a tiny bit of effort in getting to know yourself and being authentic with yourself (and do not cause harm to others in doing so), then it will be okay. My kids are smart and thoughtful. They like reading books ( a lot), playing sports, playing instruments, coloring, walking to our little downtown. These kids are living childhoods pretty similar to mine. Maybe just… iono, not give your kid an iPad? And if you’re a gen alpha kid reading this, just go do something in real life! I was born in '03 and turned 20 this year. It's extremely concerning, from my perspective, seeing how Gen Alpha is doing. I remember when I was in elementary school, kids still played outside; they traded toys and Pokemon cards, read books (not assigned reading), and socialized with each other. In middle school when Tiktok was launched I had this weird feeling, like the beginning of a cultural shift was emerging with the way it was so popular, but it was nothing compared to how the app is today. Anyways, I see and hear of so many elementary schoolers and toddlers who are glued to their tablet or phone screen nowadays. This is so depressing to me because this is the most crucial development period of their lives where they need to socialize (in the real world), and with the way this is going, they're going to have many problems down the road with a shortened attention span and lack of social skills. I sound like a boomer writing this comment but this is deeply concerning me.

Then i was shocked to find out it was a lie when my friend showed me Minecraft on the Xbox360. i was one of 3 kids in my high school to not have a phone and we were deemed weirdos how we had crap strict fun police parents and we were made outsiders we were told are lives sucked and we should k!ll are selfs. In the end im glad my parents did not buy me a phone so i did not turn into the brain dead internet zombies that were my classmates. I am a Gen Z and im proud of it.

We both like playing computer games so we'll likely let our future children enjoy that when they're old enough, and as teenagers I'd imagine we'd let them browse the internet through an ad-blocked web browser, but I think we'll have to be careful with what they do on the internet, no social media, and a lot of learning through books. I personally watch philosophical/political/historical videos that are often upwards or 40 minutes to two hours long or sometimes content on games I play, primarily the total war series. I’ve never had TikTok and I stay away from KZbin shorts. My brother however watches, what is to me, degenerate crap although it’s nothing close to elsagate or anything of that nature. Mostly thinknoodles and fortnite and the like. Eh, he’s turning out alright. I think a lot of this video is just fearmongering or at least very exaggerated. I don’t really know what’s going on with your sister though Also quick not you haven’t failed as an older brother. It is entirely your parents’ fault.

I used to know how that feels like as a gen z. The sad thing though, I became a phone addict. It all started when I was exposed to technology at a young age, I used to be a quiet and wild 1yo so sometimes my mother would give me her phone and I would watch cartoons but in a bit hours. Like 5hours, but my phone addiction or technology addiction became worse day by day when I finally turned 4/5 and got my brain somehow more developed, I started being on my phone for around 12hours I think so? And I also was obsessed with PlayStation 4 but I stopped playing it a while ago. I used to play minecraft, fortnite, sims, etc I used to But something like that and then spent with my family some time. And it just developed from on and on, I used to have loads of friends! I was happy truly because I spend time with my family and also look at my phone for a little bit of time, and where everything hit was at 2020. Or where we got to online class, no joke I used to watch tiktoks and online videos and never ever attended online classes. Liek I would attend them but leave them in some type of room then go to another, this made being on technology and literally 24hours on my phone no joke I even sleep beside it, made my eye sight 1 out of 6. Not just that, I started getting ocd and anxiety by the age of 11 because I wasn’t exposed to the real world much all I had was technology that’s all I had. I didn’t know how to communicate properly, it got quite bad. But I’m really trying to better myself now, I’m currently 14. Started taking more care of myself like going to the gym, taking care of my skin, and taking care of my body nails and just everything of me. Physically, and mentally. And I kid you not, I feel so much happier. Even tho my phone addiction is horrible but it’s getting lower day by day, wish me best 💗 and I really wish all the people who have this same problem the best too. Why I made this comment is because I want to recommend to those people my age, to do the same as me. Cause they really might have a happier life they would even know how to communicate with others better. So please whoever is reading this thank you for reading till here and, please take care of urself mentally physically and everything. Literally love urself and take more care of urself, distract yourself from the internet.

As someone who grew up in the late 2000’s-early 2010’s, I’d like to think that in about 20-30 years. Our current generations, gen Z and gen A, will likely deter many of their children from falling down the same path we did. Hopefully the people from these generations that do chose to have kids will help them learn and grow in an environment where technology is managed and regulated.

@racoonzah as an 94 millennial, I think it's a factor of parents back then simply not knowing what the effects could've become at the time. Back then, it was thoight to merely be an interactive television for the kids to sit down and be quiet on. A device they could pull out at any time they want a break from kids running around yelling. Sure there was some foresight understanding on how this would develop into bad habits, but the millennial generation also grew up as the first generation not to be in a better average economic status than their grandparents. We were the beginning of the shift between one job earning you a steady home to needing "extra hustles" to keep yourself afloat. In the end I find it no surprise parents delegate their tech to parenting. Many simply can't afford the energy/time otherwise.

It is very hard to find an intelligent person who doesn’t get molded by this stuff, and even when I do, (this is a true story by the way), his parents decided to move to Switzerland, and my only contact with him is a short 30 minute zoom call early in the morning before he goes to bed.

I’m 16, and since the age of 4 my entire life has been engrossed in devices, starting with the IPad second generation, I’ve had no childhood, and no memories with friends as it was all online from my younger years. I spend every minute on it. I lost attention span, I’m super lazy, terrible social skills and awkwardness, zero work ethic and drive, and I can’t help but realise all of this is the fault of spending every waking moment on devices. Don’t ruin your kids as well I beg you. I’ve recently decreased my screen time a lot, and am so much happier. Learning an instrument and making proper memories. I have three kids, aged between 8 and 0. My wife and I strictly limit their total daily screen time. Our older kids didn't get any screen time at all until they turned two, after that they got at most 10 minutes per day of age appropriate TV or movie clips, under our supervision of course. We increased this very slowly to about 30 minutes at age 6, always under close supervision. Now, at 8 we allowed them to play on their Nintendo Switch without us for a short time, but still with us carefully selecting their games. Our children don't have any kind of addiction to screens. They like watching a show or playing a video game, of course, but they also like playing with Lego, Playmobil, wooden building bricks, stuffed animals etc. and go outside almost every day, for hours. It's all a matter of parental responsibility and engagement with their children!

I was an outcast purely for my accent. Something I had no control over initally as a kid. So I'm one of those floaters.. and the key to a healthy life is Moderation. Everything. Including the internet. Watching cable tv go away only for the literal concept to comeback. Its wild how much has gotten repackaged and sold as something 'new' and you guys have no prior knowledge to know what is and isn't worth your time. I once had a classmate of mine in a design class. We were trying to prove that dieter ramm's design principles did matter. So we as a group were breaking every rule in our horrid product (came out as a coffee maker with flames, a square cup, it was baddd and beautiful). One of the first suggestions my classmate tossed out was 'what if we made a phone that one worked when plugged in' I slowly turned to him and said 'So a Land Line...' and he sheepishly looked at the floor and said 'oh...' as the other partner and I couldn't stifle our laughter. I thought I felt old having to read cursive for someone til that hit me.

That increases my time with my family and I can study more when I wake up ( I can wake up earlier )! But my mom was skeptic at first but agreed! My dad has been training me to lift weights ( my personal best is 10lbs, I never lifted weights before though ). I learned how to properly do a push-up now thanks to my dad. I learned how to eat more different food. I love coleslaw and salads, I don’t eat cereal for my breakfast anymore, instead I eat toast with meatloaf and milk ( I make it myself because my mom taught me ). I’ve been doing really good today, although I found out my nerves in my right hand has ruptured. It hurts really bad, so I didn’t go to school. So many people with insomnia (aside from insomnia caused by being on their phone at night all the time) have trouble sleeping because they dont spend enough time out in the sun, the things your body absorbs from the sun have many other health benefits but the process of breaking down a certain one of these will results in melatonin being produced which is extremely important for proper sleep. I don't think anyone would have to explain the benefits of regular exercise, you feel proud of yourself for having made positive changes to your body and overall feel healthier.

I grew up knowing what it's like to have a community in my neighborhood, playing on trampolines and riding bikes with other kids, going fishing with my grandpa, playing on the swing at the park... I'd go home and cool down with a tall glass of kool-aid, and play Sonic 3 or Ristar until I fell asleep. I remember staying up at night on weekends to watch Adult Swim n' shit-- those were the days. Things were simpler then, and media truly was for entertainment, but also did manage to slip in some very wholesome and meaningful values about love, trust, friendship, and being good to those around you. The gift of life is now trivialized, nothing more than a commodity now. Your identity is rendered to nothing more than a costume to be changed and manipulated. The things I had and loved so dearly have been quietly stripped away from gen z and alpha. How can one know to fight for what they never knew they had? Does freedom and independence exist if you're convinced you already have it? We know what we need to do. Anyone can look at the situation and know. But human nature dictates that we won't until it's far too late. Your video hits home because it's been on my mind a lot. Subscribed~ I appreciate your effort immensely in articulating it all.

I hate how so many people my age are acting like 6 year olds. Yes, I do occasionally act in that way, but do I do it ALL the time? No. From the Stanley cups, to the gossip, to the discrimination on things such as Lgbtq, the weird obsession with being Jamaican, the slang, the adults who can’t understand the crisis happening in our generation right now, to the skincare, to the feeling of wanting to be free but also scared I will get looked down upon by others generations…. It makes so much since why there is a literal mental health crisis is happening right now. I’m getting tired. I wake up, I take a shower, I get ready for school, I get on the bus to GO TO SCHOOL, then when I get to school, the popular girls are blocking my locker. Because they had to be put in the same homeroom as me. Then depending on whether it’s an A or B day, I go to Ela, then Math, then Health, then Homeroom, then lunch, then social studies, science and finally Spanish. (A day) BUT if it’s a B day; then I go to Social studies, science, Spanish, homeroom, lunch, Ela, math and finally health. Then at the end of the day, I get on the bus. And the bus ride is even worse. The boys my age treat others horribly. One time when I was in 6th grade, some kid told me the most inappropriate pick up line I wish that I didn’t understand. My mom doesn’t even need to have any kind of talk with me, I know everything about adult life. I’ve known since I was 10. I’ve dealt with toxic friendships, I was peer pressured to jump into a relationship at TEN. My “best friend” convinced me and manipulated me to like girls. (Which don’t get me wrong their is nothing wrong with liking girls, at around this age kids discover themselves more sooo.) So let’s see all of the trauma I have added up: - My parents had quite the unhealthy relationship. - My parents had a huge fight in front of SIX YEAR OLD me. Traumatized me for life. - My mother ignored me when I couldn’t speak up for myself in school. - At 7 my little brother’s best friend (who was 6.) Emotionally manipulated me and gaslighted me into ‘dating him’ and tried to convince me to let me agree to him sticking his hand down my LOWER clothing. (Luckily I had a brain and never let him touch the middle.) - At 8-9 when I was in 4th grade every girl at school ignored me. Made me feel isolated. Took advantage of me. Treated me wrong. Took from me and never gave back. Turns out they were all talking behind my back, and my “best friend.” Was the one behind ALL OF THIS ignorance. Ever since this event I have hidden my emotions from others and never have felt seen or heard. I keep quiet, and don’t stick up for myself because when I told someone they didn’t listen. - At 10, being peer pressured to think I was Lgbtq at such a young age, I dated my BEST FRIEND. Later lived to regret it, as she gossiped about me with my friends and turned my entire 5th grade friendgroup against me due to one small argument we had. (Plus being the dumb idiot I was I posted a “tiktok” on it 💀) - At 11, (of that same year cause I am a summer child.) I got with this one person, online sadly. It lasted 6 months, I grew super attached to her because of my lack of parental support, as I have never had a full on emotional connection with my mother. In the end I destroyed her in a way- (That was 2 years ago however, and we have learned to put it in the past since we were both impulsive idiots.) I became depressed (literally) for months. - Dated another girl sadly, one who was a year younger than me, a few months after, at that same age. Also didn’t end well because do to my impulsive behavior and decisions, because oh my god I was a dumb idiot. It ended in a kind of wild way. - Also forgot to mention when I was 11 I moved states. Turning 13 in July. But it still doesn’t mention the fact that I will never forget 2017. If my Mother had just let my Father be a part of my life, I could’ve grown to be a way more confident person…and I wouldn’t have had to experience all this trauma. My day usually consists of: -Wake up -Shower -Get ready for school -Go to school -Finish school exhausted, - Get on annoying bus, - Walk half a mile to get home - Procrastinaste doing homework - Listen to music - Mindlessly scroll through KZbin shorts. - Eat dinner - Go to bed AND THEN IT REPEATS. EVERY SINGLE DAY. I am tired of it. I can’t take the cycle anymore. It just repeats. My life is too boring. To dull. I used to think of life as a beautiful thing, with so many opportunities but now I think of it as a never ending train track that gets more and more predictable and repetitive every SINGLE day. And no, I have never intentionally hurt myself because I’m sad. I just sit there silently. Doing nothing. If something doesn’t soon change in my life I’m just gonna…you know what I can’t do anything. I’m just a kid. It’s honestly all too much. Thanks for listening to the perspective of a 12 year old. :) I guess.

Heya, I was I’m a similar situation you were in except most of that happens around 10-14 with me. I know that you’re most likely too broken emotionally, but it gets better. The internet will fuck you up, yes, but when you leave your hometown it’ll be a miracle. Also, even if finding real friends may be hard but it WILL come. Ask me how desperate I was and I’ll give answers. You just need to wait, what you’re doing to protect yourself is ok. However, once being 12-14 passes, life does get better even if your too mentally ill to see it.

And while trying to figure out what their slang is to attempt to communicate with them. I figured, this is probably how the previous generation reacted to our generation. It is truly horrifying how drastic how slangs and humour can change in such a short time. No kid a few grades below me understands what YOLO meant.

Hello, if you're gen A then your no older than 13 😮 Have you considered talking to family and friends in real life? It's unlikely you'll find solutions to your problems on the internet since it's major reason why you're unwell in the first place. If talking isn't helping. You might find doing things with other people outside of virtual world helps your mental state. You could start a new hobby, join some group that meets up in person and does something fun and normal like kicking a ball, woodworking, gardening, painting, playing instruments anything really.

Make the most of that place while you still have it, and when you don't anymore, make an effort to find more places like it yeah? stay off your phone n connect with the things around you, vitamin d really does improve your mood and produce endorphins and serotonin, it'll make you happier than you think :) Find like minded people where you live and make friends who you can take outside with you on little adventures. The best thing to keep in mind for you is that the human mind is the most amazing thing ever when put to good use, you can come up with the craziest stories if you let yourself run wild without electronics for a bit. Stay adventurous and stay free, however you see being free, go climb a tree, read a book, or run around in some tall grass, be safe but have *fun*. Last bit before i end my yapping, but the best thing you can do for yourself is keep an open mind to everything, to every side of the story and genuinely never ever believe everything you see on the internet. I have so much advice and this is only scraping the surface, and I'm sure there are so many others like me who have the same stories, advice, grievances and all. Never hesitate to reach out to anyone, hell, keep commenting on things like these with like minded (or not) people and take in everyones advice. You don't have to listen to it, but it's good that you know it so you can use it for later if you have to. Be adventurous, and find what freedom means for *you*. And *never* stop fighting for it. (Sounds cheesy but it works, trust me) Be safe :)@@AlittleBaconOnTheCob

I consider myself to be a socially well-adjusted person, despite mental illness. But I couldn't have done that if my parents had bought me a phone any earlier. I was barely able to make it to near-adulthood when COVID hit, so I could comprehend what life was like beforehand and complete school mostly normally. I had a framework before being shoved into the deep end. Gen Alpha doesn't have that. This is the beginning of the end. And I can only imagine how absolutely messed up the generation after will be.

So I had the phone with me in case I needed someone to come pick me up from school instead of walking. Until then I was stuck with a blackberry until I was 11, which was when I got an iPhone and even then I was without a phone for a while. (In that time, I only had access to the internet through my mom’s computer and that was to watch shows on KZbin) I think we can definitely help iPad kids by restricting their screen time and not giving them personal smart devices until they’re older. Peer pressure + phones are very much required since elementary (not explicitly but teachers assigning homework through the parents phone, so if my mom/dad didnt see it, i couldnt do it) and spreading false rumors is wayyy faster + the fact that no one before 12 years old of age comes out of their home to play with friends. Im not american, i live in a small, very dense city, lots of buildings so a perfect place for "robbers" i mean, its true, but parents have adopted de habit of completely neglecting the child and not giving a flipping fuck of what he does even in school or overprotecting them. I wanna move out from my city asap

The exact label of the generation doesn’t matter at all-that’s not the point. The video is about the time period for those growing up in the late 2010s and 2020s and how damaging it could and quite possibly will be. It doesn’t matter if you’re late gen z by one year or early gen a by one year, you’re still the same person. If you’re born in this time then speaking frankly, you’re screwed.

to be honest, it's mainly the fault of the parents who decide to give their kids electronics at a young age. back in 2014, when i was around 6-8 years old, you'd see kids going outside, having fun with their friends. sure electronics existed then, but at least you wouldn't see a KID with one often. it was mainly teens and adults who used phones. Now thanks to parents giving their young children electronics, now even kids use phones, and laptops. there is a reason why KZbin is really the only social media app I have, wnd plus I don't really use it much. And instead of Gen Z to at least help the generation, to become better, they're all here complaining. It's so frustrating since Gen Z also created all of these slangs and made most of these social media apps a total disaster. It's a thing that will continue for possibly many generations to come..

Though I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment of encouraging people to keep their rational about them... Was it really necessary to call them a rare breed? I mean what life has taught me is that the stereotypes that form our world view usually are based around the loud minorities. - when a news outlet selects content. Will they publish a day in the life of your average Joe, or will they pick something out of ordinary whether it was something good or bad? - what will go viral, something normal or something extreme? - when you make small talk with someone. Will you tell them about something average or something noteworthy? Until you experience something your opinion is usually influenced more by the related minority then the majority. Doesn't the fact that young folks are flocking to the comment section to express their inner thoughts proof that there's plenty of rational people wearing the gen alpha label? Sorry for the rant, I guess something about this post having the effect of the straw that broke the camel's back. I see statements like these a lot and guess it piled up causing a need to vent.

I'm already seeing millennials start to fall into the "these damn kids" mindset that... quite literally every generation falls into as soon as it becomes the third youngest for some reason? I wonder if I'll be acting like this over generation beta Me personally, I'm a little more optimistic about Gen A just because I think every single generation does something right or figured out something that the previous generations couldn't. I've been learning how to manage my attention span my whole life, and I knew tiktok wouldn't be good for me. Meanwhile, everyone else just gets addicted because they get hooked on the intensity and it's so sad to see. I have a younger friend who said they got a phone at two years old. TWO YEARS OLD? How is that even legal? I'm so happy I got bad social skills instead of a TikTok addiction. To be fair, I've also been raised by literal boomers, but gosh it's sad to see what's happening. Edit: Before the replies to this comment turn into an argument about whether 2010 or 2012 is the cut-off year, gen alpha is a relatively new concept so popular culture is still deciding, and we're probably going to turn into some in-the-middle generation like zillenials anyway.

My parents used to be strict about using phones and computers too much, but around 2019 they kinda stopped caring and let me do whatever. When COVID-19 was ending and lockdowns stopped I was kinda tired of digital entertainment and started doing other stuff like cycling and swimming. I realized life isn't all about politics and being part of a fandom and arguing what's right and wrong. @@adamsteinmetz3223 Escaping the online world, or undertaking a digital detox, is increasingly crucial in our hyperconnected lives to maintain mental well-being and productivity. This essay outlines a technical approach to achieving this balance. Setting Boundaries: The foundation of a successful digital detox lies in setting clear boundaries. By defining specific online and offline timeframes, users can establish a controlled environment. This concept aligns with the principles of temporal isolation, where users limit their digital exposure during designated periods. Digital Detox Periods: Scheduling digital detox periods, such as weekends or entire days, serves as an effective technique. It corresponds to the concept of segmentation in network security, where one isolates particular systems from the network to enhance security. In this context, a digital detox can be seen as a form of "offline segmentation." Unplugging Devices: To execute a digital detox, it is essential to power off or physically distance oneself from internet-enabled devices. This is akin to "disconnection" in network terminology, where a device or network segment is taken offline or removed from the network, thereby breaking the digital link. Engaging in Offline Activities: Diversifying offline activities, such as reading, exercising, or spending time with others, is analogous to load balancing in networking. In the digital realm, load balancing distributes network traffic evenly across multiple servers. In the context of a digital detox, this concept can be applied by evenly distributing one's time across various offline activities for balanced well-being. Mindful Online Presence: Being mindful of online activities is analogous to Quality of Service (QoS) in network management. QoS ensures that specific network traffic is prioritized for better performance. Similarly, individuals can prioritize their online activities, ensuring meaningful interactions and content consumption while avoiding mindless scrolling. A technical approach to escaping the online world, or implementing a digital detox, involves setting boundaries, scheduling detox periods, disconnecting from devices, engaging in diverse offline activities, and ensuring a mindful online presence. By applying concepts from the digital realm to our digital lives, individuals can strike a harmonious balance between the online and offline worlds, promoting overall well-being and productivity. Hi, an early gen Alpha here. I was raised mainly with Gen Z (I grew up with cable TV, toys, an old 2009 wii and my mom would occasionally let me stay on her phone). I'm gonna put it in basic terms - most of the kids my age have absolutely no hope. We know the world is extremely unstable, we've been exposed to world problems at unnaturally low ages (for me, it was around 9) and we're well aware of the fact that the world is in shambles. My childhood was cut short, and the last time I felt genuinely happy being a kid was when I was 7. To the older generation: please, be happy that you got to fully live out your childhood and cherish your memories. Thank you.

As another early gen Alpha, I am so surprised that people just don't care for phones. I still don't have a phone and basically everybody my age has one. I'm grateful I didn't just get given a phone so I could shut up. Yeah, it's pretty lonely sometimes not being able to relate to others that have more access to the internet but once you get older, you're going to understand that was for the best. Of course, I'm not perfect. I watched Ryan's Toys Review and CookieSwirlC, but those two are the only content like that. I remember watching Cbeebies and and Tinypops, you know. Cable. I remember playing with toys and didn't stop until around 7-9 years old. That's the average age kids stop playing. But I think I've turned out decent because I absolutely love reading books and drawing. Like I said though, not perfect as I admit I spend a lot of time on the internet playing.. Roblox. I walk outside and see about 90% of the people using their phones or listening to music. I complained about this to other people my age and they thought it was normal. I don't get it as you can use your phone all you want when you get home but it seems so important for you to use it 24/7. What can I say though, I'm still just as bad.

I was born in 2010, so an early gen alpha. My mum worked as a nurse and since my dad had died when I was younger, I spent my time surrounded by different people. These people were usually parents of children who had grown up into adults already and so they had fun figurines for me to play with. They would read me stories, they would bring me to op shops, they lent me books to read for myself. I would go with them to meet their friends and kids, who usually had pets or kids my age that I would spend hours running around with. I even went on bike rides and walks around the neighbourhoods. They always encouraged me to write and draw and it was a treat betting to watch a recording (from the day before) of Wallace and Gromit early in the morning, while biting into a ham and cheese toasties. Gen Alpha isn't bound to be stuck on their phones for all their childhood. I believe that is mainly based off of how they are parented. What I can say though, is that it will be much easier now to be an irresponsible parent, with the rapid growth of technology whizzing through our hands.

As a young gen Z (2009) I am honestly scared. I grew up with the internet all around me but the community I grew up in (until I was like 6, then I had to move) was very in-person, outdoorsy, hang outy, kind of community. I have seen the media, seen how polar it is. I try to connect with people about issues but they all are so polar it’s almost impossible to have an actual conversation without them going off on a rant about how I’m personally offending them or how I’m wrong or something. My sister is one of the older gen Alphas and she is so glued to her IPad that it’s actually scary. I can’t exactly be talking because I’m also always on it, but I have literally nothing else to do lol. I can’t go outside by myself because my grandma will get mad at me, I can’t draw cause my grandma hates that, I can’t read physical books cause I don’t have any, the list goes on. I just have everything here, but at least I try to use my time effectively to do worthwhile things. Wow, I wrote a lot didn’t I?

I'm from Russia, and i am 14 years old (born in 2009). Due to my parents conservatism I was raised on dvd players and soviet cartoons. I got my first smartphone at age of 10. I am still going out with my friends but i feel that we are deep-diving in to social media trap. Shorts, Reels, TikToks are destroying my mind, my productivity and feelings. I came up with idea to start a pocket notebook that i would treat like my phone, take it everywhere and write my thoughts down. Wish me luck.

Unfortunately, being a Gen-A myself, I hate the fact that I am part of probably the worst generation to date. The societal impact that the internet will have on this world is incomprehensibly terrible. Yes, I agree that parents should not be giving kids access to the horrible place that is the internet until they are at least in high school. I'm luckily able to understand what the world is and not think everything is online. Am I on the internet for most of my day? Absolutely. It's hard to get off, being exposed to it by a young age by my parents has had a major affect on how I use it. I will agree the internet has indeed had an impact on my life. I was first exposed to it at 3 years old. That is genuinely horrible. I'm sad that I was exposed to this at such a young age. But at the same time, it's not like it's taking a major/noticeable toll on my mental health. I was diagnosed with ADHD at ≈4, and that was long before TikTok or actual brain rot really popped off. My short attention span is from genetics and not the internet. I hate TikTok with a burning passion and I hope that it rots like the brains of the children who use it. I feel like I am one of the more mature Gen-A's, especially for how long I've been on the internet for. When TikTok really hit main stream, I was, thank God, old enough to realize how stupid it was and knew not to use it. There are pros and cons to the internet. I personally believe that the biggest factor in deciding wether there are more negative or positive outputs from the internet on a child is how a child uses the internet. Thanks for reading this for some reason. Have a nice day. edit: bro yall, stop leaving replies like "you arent part of a bad generation! dont let yourself think like that!" like ik my generation sucks but i dont really care all that much, i just wrote this because i was bored and i dont need people trying to comfort me on non existant problems, to me, as long as im not a reason this generation is bad then idgaf, thats how i think and how i will continue to think

This is absolutely chilling. As someone on the edge of Gen Z, I've already experienced the distraction of my peers. Younger kids, third graders even, checking their phones during class. My own peers, mindlessly scrolling through TikToks. I remember when I was in third grade, walking to school, confused why some of my former friends were on phones and TikTok. I should be free, since I don't have a phone yet. But I barely have any friends, and the ones I do are luckily well moderated. However it still makes me the only person in my grade, and most likely the grade below me, without a phone. I wish things could change. Nothing feels real anymore.

There’s one thing most people forget in these types of discussions; especially because most people are persuaded to see doom in everything. What people forget to add to the equation is the natural ability of species to adapt and evolve. When bench-marking different generations, keep in mind that each subsequent generation adopted and adapted in some way shape of form; so, as much as an older generation may not be able to see a path, the next generation will.

@@Azurethewolf168 I thought of that possibility too. The problem with that is state sponsored brainwashing of the parents. But what if I said you, that we should instead give a LOT of autonomy to the schools, protect said autonomy with a strong worker union of the teachers, and made the compulsory primary school law more loose, so the parents have more manouverabilty to avoid said institution
