I’m one of the last of the Baby Boomers July 64. I’m definitely on board with hitting the retirement button. I intentionally worked jobs with pensions so I will have 3 of them when I quit working with my 401k 😊

Random thing today. My boomer mom said she wants to visit the grandkids (we're in Europe, she's in the states) but can't handle another flight - so I suggested she do a repositioning cruise. Got her out of thinking she was stuck and could still travel. Yay!

We (Gen X) seem to break all the rules. They should have never left us home alone. Latchkey kids are problem solvers and will figure out a better way. 😂

One of the last in a field with a pension. 13 more years and I struggle to stick it out, but I’ll be under 60 and financially free. I’m inspired by your path and knowing I don’t have to if I really want to walk another path. Thanks!!

I loved that analogy, Allie! The "maze" at the bank or amusement parks and being able to remove those barriers and jump straight to the front. It's exactly what we all have the oppotunity to do now.

We are boomers, 1957, 1961. We retired early unplanned due to a medical issue. So it took us a few years to balance it all out,but after 2 years we were settled into our new low stress life in our cabin in the woods. We began traveling in 2019, then took a break...and got back to it in 2023, doing 2 months away. This year it will be 5 months away. We have set our home to be low maintenance, and able to accommodate the needs of aging in place. We have always lived frugally and been conservative with our expenses. Which now allows us to keep the security of a home and still travel extensively in our 60s.😊

@deborahb.277 I retired with a state government pension from the "amazing :)" state of Cali..So as a state employee 22 years and out was enough for me... The California dollar in other states in our nation really goes a long way.. Just like the U.S. dollar does in other countries. If I would have chosen to retire in California I prob would have worked a few more years , but I had it in mind to leave A.s.a.p. after retirement.

Psst… the term guidance counselor is antiquated and has been for a couple of decades. Correct term is school counselor. And yes, I would like to assure you that school counseling has changed greatly (thank goodness!). I just retired after 35 years as a school counselor with additional years as a teacher. I’m a Boomer and grew up with the mindset, initially of a Boomer and “the way things are done.” For us, security was and is a driving force in how we lived our lives. It’s worked for us and allows us the opportunities to travel now. We never could’ve done it 10 years ago because of finances. But planning and saving and becoming debt-free was a goal for my husband and me. I wish we’d had and felt the freedom that your generation is experiencing. Kudos to you all. Thank you for your channel; I learn a lot from you. I love hearing about your adventures.

Yes! Hubby and I retired early in our mid-50s. (We're tail-end boomers.) We have started receiving Social Security, which is nice. But our investments have kept us afloat until now and we have pretty much the same amount as when we started by downsizing into an RV. We love not having a house and a yard and all the stuff in the garage, etc. I'd like to now make the jump to international travel, but my spouse is content here in the States. Maybe he'll change his mind in a few years, but we are having fun.

Very intelligent analysis of the opportunities before many of us. GenX has always been in the shadow of their Boomer parents, but it’s helped us to think outside the box. I’m in the process of developing a response to my own empty-nester, midlife crisis by becoming a nomad, starting a business, engaging in passion projects like KZbin, podcasting, or homesteading. Beats buying a sports car and getting divorced (cheaper, too!!)

I think there are more people with pensions than you might think. 🤔 All law enforcement, public educators, union jobs, like trades, County hospitals, County animal shelters, Courthouse employees, the water companies, military, VA, prison system staff. I can think of more. But, I understand what you’re saying, I guess in previous generations more of the private sector had pensions.

Yeah, I like the traditional way of working. In order to get a pension, it requires your "time" (which includes employer-sponsored retirement healthcare). I can take my bi-annual PTO/VAC and go on nice vacations, while being employed. (of course, it helps working fully-remote; NO HYBRID. But, I cannot leave my State. I'm fine with that)

I'm also a Gen X, 1974 and I just turned 50 August 5th. I'm a mother and grandmother who helps take care of my grandson twice a week, but I can do that as an entrepreneur. I agree I look at things differently than my baby boomer parents, and my mom doesn't understand why I won't go back to a regular 9 to 5.

Your thumb nail calls the “greatest generation” the silent generation, those who lived through the Great Depression and WW2, why did you call them that?
@mikecarlton6297
@mikecarlton6297 2 ай бұрын
I can’t speak for the schematic, but the Greatest Generation and the Silent Generation are different. The Greatest Generation fought and won WWII and the Silent Generation were children during the Great Depression and WWII. The Silent Generation weren’t the rabble rousers the Boomers were…thus silent. At least that’s what my minor in history tells me. 🙃
