Online dating has become almost completely normalized, but it used to carry certain stigmas. Now, many Gen Zers are making friends online through apps like Bumble BFF and Meetup and facing similar criticism that online daters once did. However, it's still unknown whether friend-finding apps are a lucrative addition to dating app portfolios.

It's because these apps monopolised and capitalised meeting people IRL which used to be free and the norm and we weak a** dumb people let it. These dating apps including Instagram is the biggest reason for men's increased loneliness and reduction in feeling purposeless, lower self worth and self esteem. There must be a way to overcome this issue but I'm pretty sure it's not another dating app or BFF feature in Bumble. Both are as toxic as they come. These corporations only care about money and not the mental health of men. They are just virtue signalling like every social media company out there.

Making true long lasting friends as an adult is painfully hard for a lot of folks. Most adult friendships are superficial a based around short term commonalities like work, or kids. As soon as the job changes or the kids quit soccer, the friendships are gone. These services make so much sense its had to think they didn't exist before. People might currently think its weird to make and meet a friend online but that will change.

The best way to meet people organically is in person and in a group where you’re not focused on one other person to give each other the green light or not. There’s less pressure that way. That being said you have to see the same people or group of people regularly and not just go out and see different people every time like at a bar or a concert, etc. You have to join something where you are exposed to the same people regularly like a team or a production or a play or some common purpose. But to be honest it just seems harder nowadays - but I don’t know if that’s because the technology is more isolating or I’m just older, lol.

@@LERJizz It's not as simple as that. There is something called human nature and common sense and general consensus via the majority of anecdotal reporting. Yes, when you are faced with an endless quality of g-looking faces online you skip the ones that are less so. And when you don't have to make an effort and you speak to large quantities at a time you (at least subconsciously) value each one less. It is psychological based on practicality and how the apps work (and are designed to work) not about a person's morals or taste or personality or just luck. It is a natural result of means affecting the ends. Of course you might occasionally get lucky but in general the less effort, the more convenience and abundance the less value and long-lasting results. The odds are far worse Someone decent you get to know and do things with in real life over time is worth thousands of hot people online who look the right way and say the right thing that you never meet or get to know -- or are "here today, gone tomorrow".

I think using dating apps those who want to make friends and look for romantic relationships are easier since a lot of people all ages always carry their smartphones in today's generation. Yes, it is very difficult to meet single people in person, especially we are still living in pandemic. I honestly have decided to use this app to make it easier for me to find a long-term romantic relationship. I find it helpful because a lot of guys like on my profile, showing their interest in me. It is up to me if I want to chat with them and hope I could meet them in person elsewhere, possibly public safe places like mall for example. I realize that I am not alone; a lot of guys who are in late twenties and early thirties (millenials) who are in my age-group are still single. In this case, I have a chance and hope I could find my soulmate.

Human nature dictates that whenever you use an app where you are presented with a matrix or array of profile pics before you click on to read more about their profile that you are invariably going to choose the ones you’re physically attracted to, regardless of whether you’re looking for an intimate relationship or friendship and regardless of same or opposite gender. So better looking people, or just better looking pics, will always do better online. And that leads to not giving less attractive people a chance or else being disappointed if someone doesn’t look like their pic.

Most matches go to a handful of men and women and, yes, controlling for a variety of factors, it seems that looks are really the only reason for the disparity. There are more single people now than in the past, and most Americans agree that dating is harder now than it was 10 years ago. There isn't really a good way to measure whether or not they've reduced the marriage rate, but it seems hard to believe they could make dating harder but have no impact on marriage.

I see a bunch of closed minded guys who're likely friendless in the comments. You'll strike up a digital friendship playing COD, but draw a line on a BFF app. Some say you won't pay for a friend, but if you made a friend playing COD on PS5... you had to pay to access that friend on the PS network. 😄😄😄 Make it make sense...
@the1stmetalhead
@the1stmetalhead 2 жыл бұрын
The intention is the big deal. I pay for COD to play games, there’s no added pressure to make friends. And that is actually how genuine relationships are formed when they’re not forced unlike how tinder, bumble want you to act by seeking people specifically for a specific thing. Not keeping in mind that friendships are not purchased by swiping right on someone. The best friends I made in life was from attending a psychology workshop a few years back despite being a finance student. We are still friends to this date. Even though we all live very far away. We still talk every Friday on video/voice calls. And sometimes even plan trips together. I don’t understand how people don’t see that these apps don’t care about men’s friendship the only thing they care about is money which they’ll soon start charging to make friends just like they’ve done with their dating model.

@@the1stmetalhead I kinda get your point, but you must be an older gentleman. Because if you're in your late teens to early 40's you'll know that meeting friends is close to impossible with work/life balance nowadays. We're living in a digital age where you can barely talk to a woman in person even she's conditioned to feel comfortable talking to guys online. The next evolution is meeting friends via an app. Of course the dating apps are going to switch their model to friendships as dating is in the toilet and men are going their own way.

Sad to say, it's gotta be the parents' fault. These are the folks who grew up with no unstructured play time, were not allowed to travel on their own, even to/from school, and make it all the way to college & the workplace with no idea about how to initiate & maintain relationships. Most of what we call adulting is learned, and it requires practice, especially social skills. If ppl deep into their 20s are just starting to learn stuff that earlier generations learned in grade school, then we need to address that as a society. Not let corporate greed swoop in offering digital milksops.

Well the only reason they are getting into the whole friendship role is because men are learning that dating apps aren't for them and are leaving them in huge numbers, they'll be more successful in getting a date IRL. Then hopping onto a dating app which leaves them more lonely and depressed by the end. And since men are the major source of their revenue close 75%. It makes sense that they don't wanna lose that sweet money. But all this talk about is just virtue signalling and they actually don't care about men's loneliness they only care about their money.

I've just come along so many profiles on these dating apps claiming (not looking to date to date, just friends only) and when a girl actually answers my DMs or messages me and is like "hi just so you know I'm only looking for friends and friends only" like if you're not interested just say it like If you're not looking to date why the hell are you even on a dating app then?
