I will say, Giannis does travel (they literally all do all the time) but if you actually watch him and count most of the time his plays are actually legal. His euros are so crisp he makes people forget that he is frequently only using two steps
@T1Oracle
@T1Oracle 5 ай бұрын
His strides are really long because he has long legs and moves very fast for his size. That combination makes a lot of his moves look like travels. Then we have other, smaller, speedy players, that can go five steps on two dribbles. This convinces people those moves are travels, when really they just have fast legs. Speed makes a lot of odd looking things possible. Either way, fans need to learn the rules and stop trying to be referees so much.

@Drakshl 4 ай бұрын
@@Netsfan24 the reason it's important is to minimise the number of more confusing situations that happen where the split second that controll happens becomes important, if you remove the gather step then it would become exceedingly important to gather the split second after your foot touches the floor, with the rules as they are now you can gather with your foot in the air at any point without having to worry about it. It makes the game much less inconvenient to play and FAR easier to adjudicate

Upcoming big men need to take a leaf from his note. Every player cannot be Steph, but everyone can play to their strengths. It's good to be an all-rounder player, that makes a player unpredictable, but players should spend more time perfecting their area of strength. If Giannis has 80-85% FT shooting, he would be averaging like 40 points every night.

I think as counterintuitive as it sounds, you CAN'T run this deep of a drop coverage on Giannis. Sure he can't shoot so it SOUNDS like a good plan, but literally all that does is give him a completely free runway to the rim against a backpedaling defender, which is basically his only consistent way of scoring still You need to be UP on those ball screens if you MUST run drop and you need to get under those screens much quicker. Otherwise I'd rather just switch. The key to stopping Giannis is having as much backside help as you can, cutting off those open runways he's hunting for by plugging the gaps, either over-helping one pass away (which is dangerous given their roster) or just stunting. The POA defender also needs to get up into him (pause), because like I said he's hunting for chances to get a defender backpedaling in open space. When you run drop like this against him as the PnR ballhandler, you're unnecessarily shooting yourself in the foot because a much needed body in the gaps will be stuck trailing Pacers basically invited bro to score 60

@georgepoly4842 5 ай бұрын
Teams have tried every single type of coverage possible against giannis and in the playoffs he sees all those look switched up so he can’t get comfortable. He’s wayyy too good to ever stop him, but yes, depending on the kind of p&r being ran you want to play kind of in between with giannis, you don’t want to give him a runway but you also don’t want to play close enough that he can just blow by you. But usually he’s either able to attack either way or he’ll just swing it to the wing guy and post up as basically anyone is a mismatch against him.

Love the analysis @BBALLBREAKDOWN. Your reasoning for most of Giannis' footwork is sound, imo. However, on both catches at the elbow starting from 10:03, after splitting his feet on the catch, first establishes a pivot foot by moving one foot, then proceeds to lift his pivot foot off the ground while the ball is still in both hands. Is this not a travel? I can't see the rationale that he's begun his dribble if both hands are still on the ball. I raise this finickey point only because you specifically point out Giannis' footwork as being good in these examples. Cheers!
@bballbreakdown

The rule is that the ball needs to be out of his hand before the pivot lifts. That one is probably a travel since he splits early. Tough for the human eye to detect that in real time but the ref probably should’ve gotten it

I don't think you realize how significant this was tho, it's not the most significant thing he's done but when a player comes in during garbage time and makes a single free throw on the AWAY team while getting blown out, Giannis should be entitled to it

The Pacers knew full well what they were doing. The rookie story is a cover. Everybody knows when a guy sets a record like that especially at home he gets the game ball period. They were mad that the Bucks kept stomping them with the starters in after they waved the white flag. Problem is the Pacers have been jawing at the Bucks in prior games so now you have bad blood. Pacers should have took it on the chin like men and kept it moving just like the Bucks had to. The Pacer coach petty as hell lol…

@@damckissen the bucks security guy gave the ball to the pacers. They wanted both balls for Giannis and also Dame who is now 5th all time in 3s made. There are only 2 balls. The pacers kept one of the balls. It’s not their ball to keep it’s the home team ball. If the bucks wanted them to have the ball cool but they didn’t so that’s the issue. They should have given the ball back.

@bballbreakdown 4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, this is not accurate. There’s a very specific “hop travel” rule that prohibits a player from ending a dribble with the right foot down, for instance, lifting it off the floor, and then putting that same right foot down again consecutively. A big no no.

You had the frame at 13:43. That assistant coach took the ball, sneaked behind Halliburton. There was another angle of it where he turned around, smirked at Giannis and then ran away. That's what made him mad, and then asked Halliburton to get the ball back. Come on now pacers...y'all are a mature and storied franchise. Don't be petty now.

I love Giannis, but as fans, we've noticed some things that are not so great about his attitude. Now the game ball, before the ladder incident. One thing we've learned about the star is whenever he's super passionate about something, he'll cross boundaries just to prove something even if it means inconveniencing people just like the staff who were doing their jobs and him shoving the ladder just for him to finish his post-game free throw practice.
