Secrets of Practical Chess John Nunn recommends the scaning method and to have a safe net when calculating. Great topics

What are the scanning method and the safe net? Could you please briefly explain? Thank you!

@@jaycastan1375 when you have leta say 3 moves you can make the old way was to calculate each one of them to the end and then you would decide one of them. The scanning methos is you have your 3 moves but instead of calculating each of them you only go 2 to 3 moves deep in your calculation then you decide wich is more promesing and that one you calculate to the end after you make the move

Safety net is for example the move you decide to make you at least have a draw of it does not go your way

How do players have so much time to dedicate to chess? How much money do they make?

They just love Chess and live frugally. Most people have several hours of free time daily to study but they spend that time on TV, video games, blitz and then claim they have no time to study.
