How Good is BUFFED Empoleon in Gen 9?

With the release of the Teal Mask DLC in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, there was a whole new meta and inside of it. The DLC featured many new Pokemon and gave old Pokemon new buffs to play around with. Empoleon out of all the returning Pokemon got the most significant buffs to its arsenal. It now has access to reliable recovery, something it so desperately wanted for years and now has a much better ability in Competitive. With these new tools, it seems poised to come back with vengeance in the competitive scene since its last debut in Gen 7. Q: Where is the gameplay from?
A: Pokemon Showdown
Q: How are the sprites looking like generation 5?
A: Click the settings button and you can change the sprite display
Q: Why is the gameplay have the opponent being dumb?
A: Well surprise its me playing as the opponent as well and having Pokemon faint every 5 seconds isn't as fun as seeing the Pokemon do something in the battle for some time, which is why the gameplay seems like the opponent is braindead. Although I have taken some feedback and have tried to make it more interesting as possible without making the Pokemon faint every 5 seconds for hopefully better entertainment.

I personally am DYING to find out whether or not Blaziken will get Roost as well since every avian starter available atm has it, but we've yet to found out if it'll get Roost so I can use Blaze Kick + Focus Energy on raids without having to rely on Shell Bell for healing.

@@RockOrso2why should it use it though? It can’t fit in the moveset. You use it as an offensive sweeper with Swords Dance and Protect to abuse speed boost. The other two moveslots are important enough, fire and fighting isn’t a bad stab combination, but there are pokemon resistant to it. It already needs to consider its coverage moves for one slot, especially when you consider that tera exists.

@@kanaxaufxanax490 in Tera raid context, consistent recovery is king, so making Blaziken hyper offensive competitively is fine, but making it raid viable would be more appealing to peeps who enjoy raiding with their favs, especially the starters.

My hope was that in Gen 6/7 we got Roost Mega Empoleon that gets Levitate on Evo. If it had Competitive in base form that would have been even more nuts.

its honestly has more competition from Milotic that has the same competitive ability for offense but also has the defensive one of marvel scale - has recover and get scald still and has a higher base spdef. steel has great resists but for a water type its lack luster since it loses fire resist and gains weaknesses for types it should beat like ground. they could have given him a new signature move something like idk "sharpen edge" to raise its at/spatk or a move to increase defense and speed something like shift gear but give it plus one defense instead of atk. I know ill still be using Empoleon for sure i think he has one of the coolest designs.

Milotic is vulnerable to Toxic. If you want to use Marvel Scale, you need Flame Orb, which means on top of hazard chip, you have to deal with 6% damage from burn each turn

@@blueskyalchemist623 To add, Milotic doesn't resist Dragon or Fairy, which are things that allow Empoleon to take on meta relevant threats, such as Dragapult, Walking Wake and to an extent, Enamorus. What's more, Empoleon gets Knock Off for utility sets, and has Agility for offensive sets. It's also important that it's NOT weak to Grassy Glide.

I honestly think Empeleon could work. Use life orb or weakness policy to help take out certain mons. Using a Tera type, ghost for fighting or flying for both fighting and ground can definitely help check certain mons. I honestly think if you invest in physical defense, slap a weakness policy, bulk up in defense, it checks all the ground mons you just posted. I honestly think if it got scald it definitely would be more OU viable because nobody would want to switch in. Hopefully it can get it in the next DLC.

Tbh, I do find that it's role of dealing with mons like Manaphy and Walking Wake is better than its ever been since it can not only Roost on them, but can get in its teammates vs them without you having to sac mons. It's one of a multitude of ways to ensure its never dead weight on your team. Knock is also a big deal, especially if it's added onto a team that struggles to break boots mons, as most of them don't really deal well with Empoleon. It's a matter of the player base figuring out where it fits best before we really start seeing this mon realized. It's always been a late bloomer, so I never expected an immediate take off.

@@insertnamehere658 well Empeleon is more versatile then Roaring moon. It can switch in more, be a wall, ignore poison and sand storm, can benefit from rain or snow. It's just great of a Mon.

@@mandalorianhunter1 versatility means nothing when you get outclassed in every role you can fill. Defensive water? Just use alolomola or toxapex. Offensive water? Just use manaphy, walking wake or greninja. All these pokemon offer more than empoleon in their respective roles. No reason to use it in OU.

I don’t get it though: terrastalize empoleon for say an earthquake with Terra flying and hit with grass knot ice beam or surf/scald and you severely hinder offensive Pokémon, you can also go air balloon, you can also go assault vest for a pure special defence destroyer. Empoleon’s special attack shouldn’t be overlooked when you consider it can outspeed and largely dent garganacl, could one shot great tusks, outlast gholdengo or even just soak up a hit from gholdengo to hit it back decently or flip turn with it into another Pokémon or invest in special defence and roost off gholdengo whenever needed. Ogerpon could even be countered if it went for icy cudgel grass if you Terra flying and ice beam it which 111 special attack would hit hard, intimidate boosting it up with competitive helps but it could also run its substitute petaya agility set too, I think it’s severely underrated right now and it’s got me out of a few bad matchups even with me only having Terra water so far. I even think it could have Terra dark for a surprise special hit on gholdengo on an assault vest set.

Wonder what other tweaks and buffs the other starters will get for next expac. They all better get something or anything lol. A lot if not all of the starters need some help from all the powercreep. Like sure not all of them will suddenly become great but it would at least be something 😅 I also hope more spinoffs do stuff like Legends. Giving new final evos to the starters. So if Unova gets a Legends game or any other spinoff I hope we get some new evos for another bath of three starters.

Honestly, been testin in reg g, adrenaline orb, competitive empoleon is too good of a counter to inceneroar. If you gmanage to sneak in an agility boost as well, which isn't super hard since people don't respect the penguin, you basically have a 150 speed plus two empoleon with great coverage.

As much as I used to main empoleon, Torterra is the most viable now of the starters trio with Shell Smash and Healoning rush, since at max investement on soeed, surpasses almost everyone in the meta. Nevertheless it has it's counters like Corviknight or simply using Taunt. Infernape and empoleon are just power crept (nevertheless I expect them between OU and UU and not lower)😢

Even torterra doesn't exactly have the best matchups. Most can realistically do a shit load of damage onto it given it's horrible defensive typing, and the fact without white Herb, it's only grass stab option is Grass Hammer [which doesnt help boost it's survivability] or seed bomb is interesting. This is only compounded with just being easier to kill otherwise given Shell smash lowers it's defense.

Needs scald and defog to be good. Also needs a boosting move like calm mind. Lacking lots of things its not that good. Competitive ability is bad as well too situational. I dont think itll even be UU since lacks a boosting move like calm mind to sweep and scald
