@7:08 is suuuuch an important rule with many commanders, Chris. Especially the likes of Ivy, namely Orvar. I've seen many people who just cast Orvar t4, without anything to do and only to see Orvar get targeted right then and there... Anyways, let me recommend Artisan of Forms, Vow and and Impetus auras, as over half of our builds are pretty similar!

Yes, if your Commander is a lynch-pin piece keeping protection up is crucial. Since Ivy is so low mana value it's a lot easier than casting a 6-mana commander and keeping mana open to save it too!

@@CommanderMechanic Both protection and enough mana to maybe at least get a few instances of benefitting from the commander! It was a similar issue with Tergrid players I would see. They'd leave here there stranded, while everyone knew they needed to get rid of her before the pilot untapped on their turn...

unless the rule changed: you also have a non legendary ivy if you mutate on top The token doublers also do not work on Ivy's effect as copies of spells "become" tokens and are not "created"

mutate is VERY cool with Ivy - definitely worth including a few mutate spells

Those last three mentioned don't actually work with Ivy (I'm sure in some capacity they do, but in most cases they won't). Ivy copies spells rather than permanents. The last ruling on Lithoform Engine covers this mechanic. The tokens that she creatures just come into existence, but do not count as being created so you can't duplicate them. But this is also the reason you can use Errant, Street Artist. Those are spells that are not cast, so Errant can copy them. 9/25/2020 The token that a resolving copy of a spell becomes isn't said to have been “created.”

There are plenty of effects that make copies and tokens - Duplimancy and Orvar, for instance. The advice applies.

@@CommanderMechanic Maybe, but if people spend the money to buy a Doubling Season just to find out it doesn't work that is a shame. Maybe add a note to the top?

yeah the money is much better spent buying cheap copy spells since you have something from 10 to 15 ways to either turn Ivy non-legendary or create a non-legendary starter copy.

Token doublers won't double copy of permanent spells, because they aren't created. They just become tokens. You did show a fue things that do create copies of what you target them, but is it enough?

Duplimancy and Orvar, Irenicus' Vile Duplucation - I think it might be, but your mileage may vary.

When I saw Ivy I thought "Oh cool. I could do a combat trick commander. That'd be fun." Then I watched your video and went "Oh. OH. Okay, Ivy is a bit more busted than I thought." Also, technically, wouldn't Ivy be her own best friend with all the clones?

I am confused with Ivy and mutate. If we copy a mutate unto Ivy, lets say a Gemrazer, and we put Ivy under creating a Gemrazer with Ivy's effect, won't it stop us from copying future spells? Ivy specifies that the copy must targets Ivy, but its no longer an Ivy its a Gemrazer... help me understand please

The name is self-referential. If the name of the creature changes, the name the text box refers to changes with it.

Does Ivy copy "amass X" spells aswell and give her those +1/+1 stacks?

No amass only goes on armies. But if a spell with amass gets copied you get the effect twice
