​@Primaeva the crafting in LE starts off basic.. but you need a calculator to figure out some of it. Perry the pig has a video on how experimental affix's work and it's convoluted. As someone who tries to play the game without a build and make my own, there are way too many synergies between a lot of skills. Can you make a build that will work? Of course. But no way you will ever accidentally come across a build that synergizes perfectly. I spent about 8 hours just trying to aynergize falconer skills before it launched. I would grt half way through a tree and be like.. well shit.. that means I can go acid instead! Then have to re do every skill tree. I can definitely see how some people wouldn't like that and they just want to play and that means they have to look up guides.

I've been playing this game without a guide and I've been having a blast, playing necromancer summoner. Focusing only on having as many minions as possible and so far my build hasn't let me down. The build just works.

I'm playing without guides, wanted to have "single huge strike" build, figured I'd go rogue for crits(it was my first character), saw the "enhance every 3rd attack" passive, then subclass with "enhance every 4th unique attack" and passive on the apuncture skill skill tree that goes "every 3rd apuncture has +damage +range" and then there's upgrade that immediately deals all bleed as a single hit on that enhanced hit. Unfortunately the enhance 3rd apuncture passive in the skill skill tree isn't tracked anywhere, so keeping track of apuncture being 4th unique attack as well as 3rd attack as well as it being 3rd apuncture is really hard already, and the fact that the last part isn't displayed anywhere doesn't help. Ended up playing bleed build on that character

While I technically agree that there are no ~1k times more powerful/tanky outliers, there are definitely some close ones (even ignoring the best ward abusers). Don't want to spoil but my friends was doing something they came up with themselves and we did manage to salvage it, but it was roughly 10-50 times weaker than the build I was doing damage wise, on top of its scaling clearly tapering off due to limited scaling options. It didn't even feel that good on my end because it just felt like I cheated. One of the nodes in my skill tree was effectively 1 point investment for a 2.5+ "more" dmg multiplier, when usually those nodes are max 1.15 mult per point, and then another 3 nodes turned defensive affixes into having a damage contribution with roughly 3 points for another 2.0+ "more" dmg multiplier. Thankfully, because the differences were sub 50x, this can all be overcome with grinding for more gear if you are a weaker build, but it still feels bad. Hopefully as time goes on they have it so all builds have the support that the 90th percentile builds have atm. The main "feeling" benchmark is that when you hit your stride 60-70 you are crushing monoliths, and can smoothly transition to empowered after maybe like 1 day worth of gearing up and fixing your defenses. The sub 50th percentile builds currently feel pretty bad, and the boss fights take a ridiculous amount of time since they are tuned for the dps of the well supported builds.

My only complaint about LE is it takes too long to scale up difficulties. For example, I'm playing a Wraithlord build and it's SUPER strong. I was enjoying the game immensely, but stopped around ~50 hours at corruption 300, because increasing corruption was just taking SOOO long. My build easily could have done ~1000 + corruption, I was 3-shotting Oro/Bosses and T4 Julra, but to get to 1000+ corruption I would have had to play another 40 hours... In PoE you can just start running harder maps. In LE you can't run harder maps because going from tier 10 to tier 11 requires you to go 10.01, 10.02, 10.03, 10.04, 10.05. It's boring.

It does take a while but to be honest I think it is by design. I assume you either: got lucky, copied a build, or are an very good ARPG player. I get the feeling they want to stop crazy corruption pushing so that many builds can get to at least an "average" level of corruption compared to the players who play all day and follow the meta guides. They definitely haven't got it quite right yet as there are some crazy outlier builds that break the game, but I imagine that is their plan, given their history since the early beta.

Someone finally made a ARPG that rewards solo players instead of penalizing them. LE is an absolute gem. The crafting is some of the most fun I have ever had in any game. True Offline mode FINALLY! Defense actually matters. Near unlimited stash space with in game gold. My only minor complaints are that 1. cosmetics dont work offline but I can live without that. 2. I would like to buy a tab for keys and one for every unique and they would work offline. I plan to support this game for a long time.

Honestly to each their own but I've always been curious why people copy builds? Like unless you are leaderboard grinding or something even then Id feel absolutely no satisfaction in copying a build. I always just assumed people just aren't smart enough to see what synergizes and everyone I've argues with about this have shown that the typical gamer that full copies a build is of a lower IQ. I honestly cant fathom it, the whole fun for me personally is testing everything seeing what synergizes, what feels good, different synergies and combos, seeing the character grow. Thats where the fun comes from for me. How fun is it copying and just spamming the same buttons mindlessly because daddy streamer said so? Gross. Sorry for my rant it's just sad to me.

Other than D2, I never really got into ARPGs. Last Epoch has got me though. There are tons of builds and unless you do something stupid with your talents or skills then it’ll work well enough. There are a couple of builds that are kind of broken, like hammerdin or strength beast master. Overall a great game with even more potential 8/10

End game is pretty thin, but the motivators are 1) Beat all the bosses to get the "perfect" blessings from empowered monoliths. 2) chase better items/idols or farm uniques from monolith/boss specific drops. 3) try the dungeons. 4) farm gear for other builds/classes 👍

I love how you can make stuff work figuring out things by yourself with the occasional reference lookup. The crafting system is also very accessible and fun without needing to study a month. Before the video what I think: - Better class identity than poe - great mechanics (lp, res effectively balanced at 0, cof) - well balanced on the low end, you can play anything standard cleverly (i.e. take defense or damage when you need and use skills that synergize, and get mods that work with your skills) and have it work, but needs a balance pass on the top end. -needs mechanics for endgame, mages and caches are nice, but it feels a bit bare. (If we get new stuff every league it isn't gonna take long) -multiplayer and servers still need work. (Probably not talked about, but apparently full offline mode still uploads statistics data if you are connected and don't block it with the firewall, haven't double checked myself)

@@Dangerous1939 tbh it really depends on the build, if you look at lizard_irl's first 1000 wave arena push (I can't find it on KZbin, he showed it on stream) it's very different, he's teleporting all over the place, and needs good timing and knowledge of the mobs so it's not boring. But if you're playing exploding ballista and just blowing up the whole arena, yeah it's boring.

Last Epoch is the best of both worlds. It allows the user to excel without the restrictions of creativity in D4 and the complexity of PoE. It provides enough choices to achieve a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment without the limitations of D4 via ill-conceived stats or itemization, while avoiding the nuanced and intricate depth PoE requires.

Good take overall, and well put. I share many of the concerns you voice, but also feel it's a great start overall. One nit: trade has NOT been well received by many. One long-term player and KZbinr described the trade system that launched with 1.0 as a "quit the game simulator," and it's not hard to see why, given that it's klunky to use and has artificial barriers that restrict the number of buyers and sellers in oddly mismatched ways, producing some economic results that are hilariously bad. Tenkiei is the creator in question, and I recommend his video on the trade system for context.

LE you can play whatever because they just set the monsters to scale linearly, infinitely, but the players get access to many "more" (non-linear) multipliers. This makes it very easy to slap a few "more" multipliers in every skill and basically guarantee everything will at least vaguely pace with the game until 100 corruption or so, at least. it's quite smart from a "gameplay approach-ability" perspective but it also means my bone-head friend can beat the entire campaign doing pretty much nothing but spamming shurikens on a poorly geared, poorly built rogue. PoE Scales monsters by expecting about 10% more "player power" every few monster levels (roughly speaking), with difficultly leaps around yellow tier, red tier, and uber tier. if the player doesn't figure out how to make good combinations of decisions that pay back multiplicative dividends, they fall behind, necessitating in-depth knowledge or a guide due to the sheer number of options available and the ruthlessness of the respect system. D4 scales like mad shit. power bursts generally show up as HUGE swings that could occur at any time, any level, so the game has to be balanced low to accommodate every build that might not have the wind to its sails yet.

Is addition of any content for 2+ years really that unreasonable? especially when game is pay to play, has supporter packs, microtransactions, deluxe editions etc? But personally biggest ick for me is that bugs reported in last 2 years during beta and acknowledged by the dev team are still not fixed to this day, like arena enemies being invisible when its only part of the game with leaderboard@@praill I had 100 hours in Early access, got 160 now. Pushed corruption to 1k, its the same game i played year ago during multiplayer patch with addition of 2 new masteries and factions which are cool but traders is way way stronger if someone wants the hassle of trading. Maybe it will have something worthwhile to do in the endgame in few years if it dosent die.

Been playing a bit pretty casually. Im lvl 65 now with my makeshift spin to win paladin build and it works quite well. My concern mainly now is that through the monolith system it does feel pretty repetitive. The mobs are more difficult to deal with but still feels like im just spinning around mob grinding the whole time and there isn't really any difficulty outside of that. My build might not be optimized since bosses do take significantly longer to kill than the regular mobs due to the procs and such that don't proc at all during those fights. As an example, on death procs or explosions and so forth that scale with the extra %dmg that my main bleeds/ignite and my main ability dmg scales from would basically 1 shot trash but aren't available during boss fights. But so far they aren't difficult, they just take longer to do.

In terms of depth / complexity, the only game that came close to PoE was Grim Dawn. However that runs on an outdated tech, and it makes me so happy that there is another game with modern tech now that I can play.

My ARPG Mt Rushmore would be D2, PoE, D3, Last Epoch. LE is definitely 4th in line currently but PoE2 is probably going to move it to 5th. The game just lacks that polish that the other games have. It's still a buggy mess and it looks/feels like an indie game to me

One thing to note is that you can't go online with a VPN on with the game. The game world will be stuck on the loading screen indefinitely.

At the moment anyway, I’m enjoying LE more than either D4 or PoE. PoE was great back in the day when I had tons of time to play. Sadly I don’t any more, so it’s fallen by the wayside. D4 is fun for about 3 weeks every season and then it gets too repetitive. LE seems to be more of a casual-friendly PoE, which is exactly what I want.

As you said it doesn't matter what build you use unless you play competitively, Like I'm hearing lich is the best or some of the rogues builds I just enjoy chilling my enemies with my primalist build feels pretty strong enough to me I'm really glad you pointing out that, I've tried void knight and warlock also, they do feel fun also in their own way which is a very important thing in these games, satisfaction and fun, not totally build reliable

Those that didn't play before 1.0 have no idea what a glow up the graphics in this game got. The lighting was looking pretty plain before and that change made a world of difference.

Endgame and ARPG always end the same way, you kill things to get better gear to kill more things, some game have a "short" lived endgame (D4), others have a longer spawn as in LE and PoE (well after PoE added more than 16 bits to the dwelve depth that is).

I had to quit tonight due to the lack of accessibility. I'm going back to Grim Dawn and the Rainbow Filter tomorrow because the font and the overall UI design is just murder on my eye and when I unlocked my mastery and it expanded outward so much, my brain and eye actively revolted. It was POE all over again. I don't know how you eye havers can keep all that stuff straight but GD's rainbow filter is the only thing I've found that makes it easy on my eye so... Glory to Dreeg.

Having fun with LE right now. In my experience, LE shines at the core things that an ARPG needs such as combat and class design, and most of the systems. I was super impressed as well by the graphical touch up coming from the beta I tried before. It would be foolish to call it the "best" without acknowledging that it does still need a lot of polish and that the game is not really "complete" yet. The indie-ness of LE does show. Let's admit that D4 for all it's flaws, love or hate it, did some things, riight and better than the others, albeit not absolutely vital things over LE. But LE made a big splash, and they're very strong competition. Competion is good for us players, with these options for the wide spectrum of players, everyone wins.

Like a 7/10 right now. The endgame hasn't changed for years and is incredibly lacking. I honestly don't find the crafting system/item hunt loop to be super enjoyable. Search forever for the perfect exalted item and then pray it doesn't brick over and over then search forever for the unique with LP and pray to not brick it when merging with the exalted item, repeat. While PoE crafting can be daunting I find it more enjoyable and I don't ever really feel like I make absolutely zero progress in a day in PoE like I do in LE.

Im 30 hours in, level 55, loving everybit of it. It's relaxing, stressfree, good class vareity, ambient music needs a little more oomf, storyline seems decent but can be a little hard to follow at times so i just did a youtube check on the story and lore before continuing the campaign to get a better understanding. Game is still a little buffy at times though mostly trying to get in. Items don't quite make sense about what is better, found a level 35 orange 2 hander that seems stronger than a 50 purple.

I've played many ARPGs and idk what it is about last epoch, but I played it for 36hours in beta which isn't alot by any means, then after launch 1.0 u put 70 hours right away! It's so fun to play, after d4 and poe, I felt like making my own build was awesome! Finding so many uniques to play different ways, crafting my items was so much fun, and when playing with friends worked it was even better. Really love LE and I hope they continue to improve and update it. I think it's here to stay.

Should also add Offline mode is awesome. I’ve been playing on my Steam Deck on my train commute into work. Although LE isn’t fully supported on the Deck yet, it runs decently - just some builds that require precise targeting won’t work well because the controller targeting isn’t nearly as good as on the PC. For instance, a Fire Wraith build won’t work well on the Deck because your Wraiths go all over the place and slapping a life drain onto them is very much hit or miss. Hopefully the Deck support improves in the future.

So, i think the game is fun. However, i am having the problem in this game that most people said they have in d4. I hit lebel 80 or so and i just dont care now. Im slowly grinding to 100 just to say i did it. Im at 85 now and i still have no idea how corruption works. I did an empowered monolith and corruption has never been explained at all. Nothing has explained legendary power to me either. I know it has something to do with exalted gear and stats but i have no idea how to do it. This is actually the most frustrating part for me, i dont enjoy crafting to begin with and ive felt this game has done an extremely poor job of explaining it (in game).

"Cursed Veterans Boots" you find them as drop in the first map, and they make even 10x life as ward to a hardcore masochist run. Simply spoken, if the game feels to easy, they have a "difficulty extrem mode".

To me it feels exactly like D3 difficulty. I went necro, and once i got two ward items it felt exactly like diablo, I couldn't die anymore. Then in terms of damage, the wraithlord unique dropped, and my minions went from hitting for 5-10k, to 250-950k (which changes based on how many minions it has consumed). Games feels like D3 in this regard, I am now at 900 corruption and my minion is still 1 shotting everything...

most people are using the new op gear and new op masteries (warlock and falconer) and say the game is too easy.... try to play and "old" class, and enjoy the real progression. This situation will not last forever, expect a big nerf...

At first he would pause the video every so often and give his opinions, but then the pauses got more frequent and lasted longer and longer to the point where he would just talk for minutes at a time. It's good, but gets pretty boring pretty fast (before lvl 100) unless you like endless monolith spam. Crafting is neat though. tbh, if this wasn't an indie game it woudln't get away with some of the issue it has (like the horrible uncomplete campaign and terrible dungeons). Do enjoy it, but needs a lot of work.

People don't play projectile builds it seems in LE, that is absolutely dogshit and half of the time your projectiles don't even connect. The base game is solid, but they need to work on their bugs and endgame. Monoliths get boring pretty fast

I LOVE YOU KRIPPARRIAN!!! Much respect to you and all you've done for the ARPG community over the years. Last Epoch is the best ARPG I've ever played and I've played them all. I like the idea behind PoE and Last Epoch makes that idea come to life but without the insane levels of difficulty (the difficulty is the gameplay itself but with character builds). I'm hoping PoE2 refines a lot of things while keeping boss fights interesting because I really want to have Last Epoch and PoE2 to play for years to come.

LE is just the continuity of D2-D3-PoE with modern tech and new features. It stay in the comfy zone, that's why people like it. D4 was supposed to be something else with slow pace combat, low damage numbers, epic bosse mechanics... and they failed.
