It's me, the guy with the mostly useless spreadsheet. Good stuff, can't wait for the max water speed video where you'll spend 5/6 of it on tracks with no underwater section. 17:11 - By my count, 68 of the 96 tracks (~71%) have a glider in them somewhere, excluding cannon gliders because they don't use air speed. I might be missing some though, Nintendo seems to enjoy hiding glider ramps on useless routes (I didn't know Grumble had a second glider)

Hey my guy Shortcat, I've discovered a meta breaking glitch on custom Blue-shell only gamemode and wanted to let my favorite mk8dlx content creator know. The glitch involves pulling seemingly impossible golden and triple mushroom in a 100% only blue shell gamemode!! The glitch operates by bagging from 10-12 and spam item pulling blue shells until you pull a golden or triple seemingly randomly. I've tested this glitch on a variety of tracks and guarantees victory if shrooms are used at the end of lap 3. Note that I only tested this offline against cpus. Love to hear your thoughts dude!!

A lot of esoteric stats and character/item data in non-RPG games tend to be hidden intentionally by developers. It gives players incentive to experiment and discuss which fosters community and game longevity as more invested players pick things apart for longer. It also prevents a lot of bad, absolutist (tryhard) mentalities. Katsuhiro Harada talked about this in regards to frame data in Tekken. If you have a table of every stat on hand, that will lead to players skipping much of the experimental phase of playing a game. "X move is 6 frames of start up which is faster than Y move's 11 frames, so it's just better". He said players are likely to tunnel vision numbers vs context and they absolutely do. They would just gravitate to ill perceived "high tiers" because the numbers *appear* stronger. It's a negative affect on the game's meta development. Mario Kart might be the same case. Also, it might just be overwhelming to have 14 stats listed in game.

That's a great point! I did not consider that. But I do think it's slightly different because in Tekken you can see the move animations, while a hidden stat in Mario kart is not really noticeable unless you put 2 combos side by side (and why would you even look for a hidden air speed stat?). So you'd be playing with an unknown advantage or disadvantage until you searched for the data mined stats, or asked someone more knowledgeable. But that creates community and discussion I guess 😅 For example, streetle is literally better than teddy buggy, according to the in-game stats screen. But once you're on antigravity, suddenly you're 3 speed points slower. Imagine if in Tekken if your character just got an invisible -5% damage output in one matchup and the game doesn't tell you.

But it's a very real likelihood based one what I've read and been told by other developers for their own games. Equally likely is, again, they just might be not trying to overwhelm casual players and making the game appear more hardcore than they want it.

I just invited my friend over to play Mario Kart with me and I was already deemed a sweat by her because I pretty much never lost. Cue her surprise when I switched off smart steering and I admitted it was my first time trying this so I was going to suck. And I did. For the first few races at least. But thanks to Shortcat’s videos, I was able to get purple turbos for the first time… ever, I think. I knew to bag when I was falling behind, could do simple shortcuts I didn’t know existed (though I couldn’t do the more complex ones) and the smart steering being off allowed me to take paths that it would normally prevent me going on. Ended up with a bullet in first in my last race. Basically, Shortcat, I have you to thank for my friend now hating me 😂 Love your content, and thanks for getting me back into Mario Kart!

Me personally, I want an inside drift (ish) kart class like f1 cars with high speed and acceleration, but with really low handling. This would make the kart have to slow down on turns, which balances it among the other vehicle classes. Also bring back the wheelie.

That's an interesting reason for the timing of it! I guess getting shocked on RRM would be pretty bad, but still not as bad as the old worst target shock spots (mostly cannon gliders like cloudtop cruise)

I guess RRM being 40% a glider just makes it annoying to get shocked on… mostly for casuals :p I suppose this game relies a lot on that portion of the playerbase, too, although we sometimes tend to forget about these people! Also I remember that track was one of the promoted ones for Mario Kart 7, the game where gliders were originally introduced. It was even playable in stores as demo!

He did the max (ground) handling video where he used both Pipe Frame and Biddybuggy. With the Biddybuggy you also have max air handling and max anti-gravity handling. For (only) max water handling you need Streetle and Peach Parasol... and he didn't use that combo because it doesn't have max ground handling.
