Your last statement about mini turbos is absolutely correct. There's a certain thrill I feel when I'm able to charge an ultra mini-turbo unimpeded then release at the perfect time. And it never feels stale, ever, at least for me and likely most other MK8 players.

I am impressed with your ability to pay any attention to the mini-map. After discovering your channel and watching for a month I decided to get a Switch and Mario Cart 8 Deluxe. This is very much not the Mario Kart 64 that I remember! Yoshi + Biddy + rollers + cloud glider is technically a max mini turbo build without losing too much speed. It’s used in a majority of world records and is pretty viable in the competitive scene as well.

this is my go-to kart lol. i remember in MKDS, there was a drift stat that told you how long a boost lasts, and the lighter the weight, the more it was. so i always use small karts cause it's way better in terms of drift and mini boosts.

I think the real issue with max mini turbo is the abysmal air speed of 7. The reason teddy buggy is so good is that it allows a setup where your mini turbo and air speed add up to 32, which is the max possible sum of those two.

Ngl you make me want to main Baby Mario on this combo. I heard with fighting games you main a character that you feel the most connected to or that you have the most fun with. Some people should apply this to Mario Kart. Yoshi IS my favorite character, but I really dislike Teddy Buggy's design. I don't want to ride a blue teddy bear kart with a stitch on it's but that thing kinda ugly lol. Yoshi and Mr. Scooty or Biddy Buggy is very nice, and tbh, Baby Mario on Biddy Buggy looks like so much fun. Also the smaller characters have lesser hurtboxes and can squeeze through tighter sections better especially online. I know it only has 1 less Mini Turbo stat then something that has 6 higher Speed stat then it, but if you can snake the whole race that thing can be cracked. Thanks for the video and always teaching your viewers if they don't play a game a top level, just to use whoever they have the most fun playing as :)

I have a similar build that I use regularly with the biddybuggy, but I use Toadette because she’s cute and she’s put up good results for me on 200cc even way before all the balance changes. I haven’t noticed that the MT stat affected trick boosts until listening. I do know about the other aspects of MT stats like how fast you charge and the strength of the released MT’s.

Great video! I honestly don't understand why Nintendo has made these hidden stats and even more amazing is how people find these things. I mean why not just show that if you pick say Bowser you get +3 weight +4 speed -3 acceleration etc. I would even argue that the selections should start with the cart and have the character act as a modifier and show the plus and minus stats when you go over the character selection box. And again expose and perhaps even add to the hidden stats. Like: - Off road speed (how fast you still go if you get off the road) - Recovery (how long the damage animation lasts) - Dodge/jump height; back in the day when I was still very young :) , I was pretty proficient at SNES OG Mariokart and could dodge shells by hopping at the right time I would like it even more if each character has an unique item or skill ...or at least an unique skin/animation .... so say Koopa Troopa instead of getting a bullet bil, turns into a big green shell with slightly longer duration (if you're hanging back as a tactic it would make him more viable), or say Bowser instead of getting 3 bananas he gets a ring of fire that can absorb 3 hits, is immune to that annoying thunderbolt and can absorb a blue shell hit at the cost of half of your coins...

Funnily enough, I use meta and semi viable combos for all the wrong reasons. I've had this game since soon after launch (and had 8 on wii u) and my favorite kart was always the cat cruiser and teddy buggy was a top 5 for me. And I always liked to play as either Daisy or my Mii and later Link when they added his BoTW design so the meta just sorta shifted into my favor lol. No cap my main combos before the balance changes were Link Teddy Buggy, Daisy City Tripper, and Mii Cat Cruiser (all with azure rollers) and I hated the Waluigi wiggler meta so I rarely used it unless I was trolling

I’d love a “can I win with Monotone characters” video - you have to make a red car with red wheels and red glider and red character and test it and then orange, yellow, etc. As many colours as possible! For Yoshi, Birdo etc only one of their colours can be usable (so if you had to use it for turquoise then you can’t use that character again for red or pink). No Miis allowed maybe?
