With it being such a competitive market, there are a few that are cheaper yet. There are still way more reviews for this one at this price point than all the other 55amp plasma cutters.

Pretty sure that cutter is a fire hazard because 55 amps at 110V needs to be plugged into a 6 AWG circuit. More likely that plasma isn't designed to be run at 110v and whoever made it doesn't have electrical standards in that country.

@@27duuude1 Not really designed to be run at 110v can be done yes but best at 220-240V, neither really pulls 55amps on the nameplate, , my 40A plasma pulls ie 20A at 240v tho with transformers you get more ampere out, rated at 5.7kva

I've been using plasma cutters and cnc plasma tables since the 80's. Take your consumables to a welding supply and get the name brand ones. The Chinese consumables use an inferior brass. There are two different nozzles for cutting, one for light gauge metal and one for heavy, and there is also a nozzle for gouging. Check to see if there's an advancable nozzle for your application. There's a tool that pushes the center of the nozzle out, and then you just file the tip. This allows you to use the same tip a few times. Don't forget to purchase extra swirl rings as they do clogg. Replace the o-ring after 50 hours of use, use dielectric grease to lubricate the o-ring just a dab will do ya. Always have a spare retaining cap on hand as they can also clogg and break when you, and you will, drop the torch. Get yourself a longer and better grounding cable, one with a solid brass clamp is advised. You might want to also get a longer torch cable as well as a Thermal Dynamics or Lincoln Electric torch, much better quality and rebuildable but pricy. If you're serious about using a plasma you'll need a refrigerator dryer and filter system.

I bought one of these about 18 months ago along with a small induction MIG/TIG welder. Both use basically the same case, same ground etc. and they've been great. Although I am in the UK so they are ran on 220/240 at all times. But nevertheless they have both been worked hard and honestly for the price I thought they'd be dead by now. But no, still going strong and have honestly exceeded my expectations by quite a margine.

@brumbrumbrum I purchased a tig 200 and a 50 amp plasma cutter from arc captain off of Amazon and the results have exceeded my expectations by a lot. In 2 years of use, I have cut up to 1/2" plate steel (works okay, 3/8" is a more practical maximum thickness). Both the tig and arc functions on the welder work great. I have used 6011, 6013, 7014 and 7018 electrodes up to 150A with no issues.

12:00 just a little tip for ya someone who used to work on the lincon 200amp plasmas those tips can be cleaned with a bit of sand paper, a tip that has gone too far the hole becomes an oval shape then it's gone too far, also the way you use the torch is a big factor on how well it cuts it needs to be plumb up and down, any wandering can cause the cut to also wander finally that weird guide thing is making the cuts rough on thicker stuff since the thicker it is the more closer you need to be to the material & that guide is more for sheet metal. Edit: 17:45 what they are inside are a inverted DC stick welder with the negative lead to the torch & the earth to positive terminal, a shunt in them similar to a mig welder & a High frequency generator the exact same as in a TIG welder very simple machines

I've prolly saved that money in grinding/cutting disks since that's what i used to use. It's a total POS, but it works(mostly.) Since i mostly use it on rusted car parts, i'd wish it would start on/through paint better, but again i'm not using a damn grinding wheel anymore.

honestly you can blame corona for the cheap prizes. In Germany all hardware stores were closed to private coustomers only contractors plumbers and such were allowed in. This resulted in Supermarkets like Lidl Aldi or Kaufland to release entry/hobby versions of normal Tool from like Bosch or Makita. There are it peaks and downs tho like with Parkside some really good deals but some maschines are just garbage because material its made of is to thin i.e Joiner/Thiccnesser Combo Mashine the material gets pressed into the table by the blades that you get at the beginning and end of the lumber you mill dents in it. i got myself an Cordless Circularsaw from Kaufland: Saw 58€ Akku 30ish € and charger 15€ in Online shop but instore they are on discount. so i got the Saw for 25-35 ish € the charger for 5.95€ and the Akku for like 15€ so i ended up cheaper with the full set than the single saw itself from the online shop. and last but not least Metabo is the GOAT with vibration reduction on anglegrinders to make your hand and finger joints last longer.

90 psi is too much for cutting, usually it's about 45-55 psi. There should be instructions in the manual on how to set it up. Usually you set it and forget it. Also not a great idea to cut for long time with cover off, because temp sensor is usually monitoring only some parts of cutter/welder, and other parts are assumed to be cooled properly with the cover ON. So, yeah, there's a chance to fry some sort of voltage regulator with cover off, maybe not a huge one, but still a chance.

I went through a few tips learning how to use it, now I don't destroy them doing stupid things. I drill a 1/8" hole in the plate when I want a hole, then cut on the line, tips last much longer this way. It has definitely exceeded my expectations. And yes, I did extend the ground cable. You should mount your winch to a small frame that you can detach.. and the frame can slip into a standard trailer hitch.. then you can pull it off and quickly mount it on the back of any vehicle.. and you can put a trailer hitch socket on the front of your truck and be able to slip the winch in there also. Such a useful way to mount a winch...

I got a pretty much unused Yes Welder plasma cutter for $100. It looks different than yours but it's likely the same guts inside. I might have had it for 9 months, maybe 4-5 hours on it. Everything about it feels cheap but It's already more than paid me back since it's cheaper than the Oxy/fuel torch. It's great for cutting down scrap and my little Harry Homeowner projects. When I'm running up against a straightedge like you are, the head on my gun tends to swivel and throw my cut off unless I'm careful. That's my only serious gripe. I always run it full bore. It rips through stuff like old heating oil tanks. It's passable on 1/4". I forget what air pressure I use. Maybe 50PSI? Get consumables as bulk as you can. Cheap and chincy but saved me plenty and it works pretty decent. I'd like to find a gun and lead from a Miller or Lincoln and adapt it. The air line on the one I have is probably going to be the first thing to go. Beyond that and the swiveling head, no complaints.

i bought the same unit. I have had pretty happy results. Some is user error but it works. biggest issue is I had to extent the ground cable as everything was so short it was impossible to do much. I think the ground was 3ft long. maybe 4. but after adding some cable so I could work it is fun to use. Now if i was a working shop of course I would use a real one but for my projects this is a really inexpensive tool to have. Funny first complaint was the ground cable. I have cut 1/2 steel or maybe 3/8 it was a frame from a semi truck. about as thick as I will ever need. i have gas cutter as well.

The amperage rating is a huge factor on plasmas. You can compare any of them but less than X amps for Y job is pointless to even consider one. 45 amps is bare minimum for 1/4" steel so anything automotive will be just fine. 65 amps is the minimum for 1/2", 85 amps will do a full 1" with a fresh tip. The air compressor also has to be a certain flow rate at 90psi, so the cost of an air compressor can also be a big factor. Looks like a good rig, but I wouldn't trust a good cut past 3/8". Every single plasma can cut a full inch if you run it on a CNC and have 10 hours to setup and wait, but so can a saw blade. Tips always go to hell fast on every single brand, it's mostly the back arcing from "bump contacting" when the spray hits back. Increasing the air pressure prevents some of the back spray. You should always use the maximum air pressure for cuts, the lower pressure settings are for gouging and beveling only. Your tip will degrade in the same direction as the contact arc, so just turn the tip around to get a different angle. We usually also just hit the cut again for a clean edge, plasmas never put out good cuts on the first pass. We use hypertherm and thermal dynamics plasma cutters at work (45, 85, 105) and they all get about 10ft of good cutting before the tip will wander (slightly). Just hit with another pass and grind it, anything your welding needs to have the slag removed and anything that gets painted needs a debur so none of your plasma kerf will be visible if you complete a project. Random thing but your welding hood should be shade 8, vs the shade 10 everyone uses for welding. Good to have a clean line of sight on your cut, more important than your weld. The cheaper rigs are from cheaper HV transformers being available on the market, same with cheaper thermal resistant plastics and public schematics. The only issue with running without a cover is debris and the airflow will only be affected if it has a fan with forced induction cooling, passive cooling will work more efficient with no cover. That plasma should not be saying 55 amps at 110v. This is an error in display, design or manufacturing. You will burn down your house doing 55 amps on 110v, unless your house is wired with 6 AWG. Plasma output voltage is 120 volts so any wiring you're using should be rated for 1/2 the amps at 240V or exactly the same amps at 110V. My plasma cutter is limited to 45 amps in 110v mode but your cutter may actually be a fire hazard if it doesn't self limit the amperage.

I would have liked to see you put a new set of consumables into the torch prior to testing it on the 110V power. Mayby try cutting 1/8" steel for that test as well. Half the power, half the steel thickness. Is there a connector for using this with a plasma table? Usually there would be a four pin connector with two pins for remote start, and two pins for monitoring arc amperage for height control.

I boight one of these cut40 or cut50 plasma cutters five or six years back to try. At that time they were roughly twice the price. The unit lasted three days trimming 3mm sheets. Could not find the fault - nothing loose, fuses ok, nothing looked burned. I guess it is hit or miss with them. But $150 nowdays i would be upset that much.

1st one ive seen where the cover is off to see whats inside. you need 220 volts for a good welder like you say.

You should do a collab with JD'sGarage and build a plasma table. Those guys have a really cool "home kit" style plasma table design.. It would be great to see you build one. You could use this budget plasma cutter to run on it too.

I bought a stick welder for $100 on Amazon, and it works well on 110v and 220v. My biggest complaint was the cheap copper plated pot metal wire leads. The wire broke at the stinger 3 times and on the ground once.

Two things: You put the Teflon tape on backward. Also, it wasn't cutting at an angle, it was putting your weld bevel in. That's a feature.

What's the time stamp for his backward teflon tape? At 4:00 he's wrapping it correctly.

@@merlesgarage Nope, just re-watched it. When he tightens that fitting, the tape can have a tendency to try to unwrap itself. If he had wrapped it the other way, it would have tightened around the threads. My comment was mostly a joke, and I'm sure he didn't have an issue with it, but it's a good practice to get into. You can actually see the tape begin to wad up. As I said, it is mostly a joke, I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone.

Maybe should move the unit a bit farther from the sparks that could land in the wrong place when the cover is off. I can't wait to see the truck when you're done. I came close to buying one similar several years back that had a flame paint job on a baby blue cab. The only reason I didn't is it didn't have a tilt bed and I really had no use for it if I couldn't haul cars on it without doing what you are doing.

Hey brother you may want to rethink scrapping the GIANT LGK-60 plasma cutter. I was looking for replacement parts for the hell of it and found one on the auction block for 560.00 bucks. That would buy you a bunch of tips and cups for your new one. Thanks for the videos.

If it burns a whole in your tip like that.. Just orient that hole in line with your cut.. and you can keep going and get a lot more use out of a bad tip... You just have to pay attention to where that hole is. Sometimes you can grind down the tip a bit and make it flat again, and get more use out of it that way. May not work as well with your fence guard on, but free handing it: you can still use those "modified" tips. You have to learn to get more use out of your consumables, or you'll go through a lot of money in a hurry.

I'm almost ashamed to admit we bought the 'CUTE' 50 on eBay almost 10 yrs ago and still have not ever used it. At the time they did not have pilot arc and other improvements have been made as well as price drop as you mentioned. These buggers used to really set a feller back! I have no doubt it will work well if I hook it up, we just got really busy since my family was doing farmer's markets. Hey where in Ontario are you at? I'm originally from Niagara County NY! BTW>I like your style with that 'headache' rack!

I'd like to know if the hood on the end of the ground cable can be pulled back, and if so, if the cable is screw-clamped in there. IOW, can we replace the cable by replacing the CABLE, not ordering a longer one. I can get welding cable at any decent hardware store and up the gauge to the limit of the screw fitting IF it has one. Their "heavy duty" is only FIVE gauge, I'd go 4 or even 2 if I could fit it into the end fitting.

its not bad for a hobby farm or cheap in the field. most likely will not last forever. would not toss the nice one that still works and has worked for 8 years. when changing from 220 to 110v you need to follow the pressure adjustments given. 110v can do 1/2 inch and 220v can do 3/4 inch.

Great vid! And nice work on your truck! I really like where you're going w/ this one! These lil guys seem to work Just As Well as the Thermal Dynamics plasma cutter that I used to borrow from my friend. They used it in their auto-mechanic shop, and I used it in my metal-fab shop[s] I think we all abused that thing for a decade or more. I've also had a few TIG/Plasma 'combo units' [since inverter tech came out] that showed good results! Some just Meh.. Some Good.. Some Great.. At this point, I'm pretty sure that w/ most units, the bugs have been worked out.. [The 1 shown as proof] Advise to me and now From me: Shoot for a unit w/ the highest/longest Duty-Cycle possible! Also: Use a Dedicated Outlet w/ appropriate breaker[s] and the Shortest length of power wire the better.
