I just got the "Live" version of this very guitar. I have to say I'm floored by the quality, tone, ergonomics and aesthetics of the Oliver Mahogany Live. At $265, I was just looking for a relatively inexpensive, comfortable yet quality guitar to just whip out when i felt the urge. I couldn't have imagined this guitar at that price point. It sounds beautiful, rings with good sustain and great tonal balance. Yes, please.

I love my Ava (all solid wood) Mahogany. I didn't get the live version and instead opted to have my local shop (Parkway Music) install a K&K with the volume control in the sound hole. It's very easy to play and was delivered with an incredible set-up/action. I also have the parlor (Florence), which I keep in my office. My brother owns the Sage and the Oliver and enjoys them both. For the money you can't go wrong. No, they aren't an upper-end Martin, Taylor, Gibson, Guild, etc., but Orangewood definitely punches well above its weight class.

Orangewood user here! I purchased a Morgan Spruce Live (solid top, cutaway) about a year ago. The first guitar they sent me was a bit of problem. The mahogany layers ran all different directions, and after a few weeks I needed another set up. My luthier said the neck was a mess and he couldn't do anything with it, so I contacted Orangewood. They paid for all the shipping both ways and sent me a replacement that was PERFECT (even the neck joint, Jeremy!) I bought it as my second guitar to leave at my cabin/campfire, and it's always played well. My ONLY comments after a year are these: the tuners can get a little stiff, but I've found a little nut sauce helps a lot. Also, the satin finish is starting to shine where my arm rubs against it (yes, I wipe it down after every use), haven't figured out yet if I want to mess with it or not. Playability has always been perfect! The sound is not as rich and full as my solid wood Washburn, but hey, for $200 it's been well worth it, and I still get compliments on it. Like Jeremy said, if you are a beginner/intermediate or looking for that campfire guitar, Orangewood is a great value. Jeremy, ask them for a solid wood model you can review!

Guitars with new strings will need to be frequently retuned until they stretch out. When I received mine it took a few days for it to hold it tune. I am a busker and lounge performer. I have an Oliver Mahogany and I use it in all my shows. No issues. It plays better than my $1000.00+ dollar Martin. I don't have to worry about it so much. It is well-built and sounds fantastic, even with a soundhole pickup (magnetic). I do a lot of fingerstyle playing and the Oliver loves fingerstyle and bare fingers. It's like it was built especially for that style. It really doesn't like picks, but it will tolerate them if you insist, but you lose some of the beautiful warmth and character of the guitar. I'll be buying more of Orangewood models soon. I think the next one I will get is the Nylon string, Cedar Mason.

Sounds like what it is, a cheap guitar. You have to make sure when buying cheap guitars - Go for a solid top, and don't judge it until the top opens up. I have an epiphone Hummingbird because I'm not well off (currently saving up and almost there for a £1000 guitar which will be a step up from the epiphone). When I first got the Epiphone Hummingbird I wasn't that impressed with the sound but I bought some Martin light coated strings and a tusq nut and saddle and ebony pins. It worked and the sound was much improved. But then one day about 9 - 12 months later something happened and it really was that sudden, as if it suddenly found it's voice, it is now a really beautiful sounding guitar with a lovely mellow tone in the lows and a kind of steady continuous tone as you go through the changes. My main worry now is when I buy my next guitar in the new year for around £1000 will it be a disappointment compared to my Hummingbird. Anyway my point is as long as the guitar has a solid top and you have some patience and are prepared to upgrade some components it could become a better guitar than you first thought.

I recently purchased the rey mahogany orangewood acoustic. Tbh it's one of my favorite guitars. I did change the strings because I'm picky about the sound. But for 135 dollar guitar it sounds and feels great. The action is even really good. And in my opinion I like the look without the pickguard. It protects the wood finish but doesn't have any effect of the guitar. I do own some pretty expensive guitars but was looking for something to bring camping but find myself playing this one the most.

I like that you also comment on the things that you don't quite like in a guitar, although the video was sponsored. Thanks! One more thought: I noticed that most guitars in this price range have a narrower nut size. Beginners typically have problems with snaring or involuntarily damping strings when they learn their first chords or start fingerpicking. Therefore, I think a guitar like this with a wider nut is generally a much better choice for learning, and guitars with a "faster" neck should be reserved for later.

I've played a '64 Gibson LG0 Mahogany for 40 years. It's sweet spot is 3-4 weeks old strings for 3-4 months. This Olivery Mahogany guitar is definitely closer sounding, along with the Martin 000-15M ($1,500), to my '64 Gibson LG0 Mahogany. Martin has a 000-10E all mahogany that is $799, which may or may not sound as good. The Taylor entry into the parlor mahogany acoustics is a little too bright. Nothing older strings wouldn't cure, but maybe it wouldn't have that special 'personal' "baroque jester in the woods" sound that only a mahogany parlor acoustic can deliver with ease. I've fingerpicked without nails since ever since I started playing, to hear that tone. BUY IT!

And you play it well ! Shipping guitars in tune isn't rare, all my Squire guitars came in tune from Musiciansfriend...but here during black friday sales days, I am tempted to go for it. This is Dec. 2022...

That guitar looks amazing to me, as I love natural looking finishes with darker woods like that on guitars, so it looks amazing... at least to me :) I can't afford one at this time, but some day I will and when I can Ill get one and give it a try. Keep up the good work, good day and good luck :)

Do you play guitar??
@lfaf95093 жыл бұрын
@@ponk3to Yes and No, yes I play but no I can't play at this time as the only working guitar I had, is no longer working at this time. It will ether need a new neck or a head stock repair, it broke while in a hard shell case, I am still stumped as to how it happened. Such a simple question, with a longer answer than I thought I would give. I hope all is well.

@@lfaf9509 how long have you been playing what kind of music and what brand is that guitar that is damaged ?
@lfaf95093 жыл бұрын
@@ponk3to I have been playing off and on for the last 10 years, and I play rock and some country and of course some blues, but not much lol. My skill level is that of someone who has maybe played for about 6 months or so, for many reasons I am sure you do not wish to here lol. This last guitar was a Fender so I hoped it would work out somewhat better, it was a Fender FA-130. It lasted about 5 years before I found it broken in its undamaged case.

When I heard 'ORANGEWOOD' I thought of the wood/tree my Dad made a bow and arrows from in his SE Oklahoma area. The wood is straight and strong even though he made this in the mid 1920s.

And im sorry I woke up cranky and allowing you to irritate me. So I owned a Taylor 310 and a very high end custom acoustic made from a friend that happens to be in a very popular and amazing band here in colorado....i lost those guitars because of some very bad events....I got incredibly depressed to the point where a friend tried to reach out and help...she bought me a squire acoustic out of the blue, just because. Now the squire played awful to me at first but it was all i had and all I could afford...I learned to love it and basically wore the fretboard down to the wood in about 7 months...so enter the orangewood...I needed a new guitar and am still struggling ALOT... I pushed myself and bought the oliver and I am actually very proud of the guitar...it plays well, Stays in tune, and has a personality...I had some luck recently and the black Friday sale happened so I purchased the Brooklyn....the same...I am proud to own that guitar....are they my old guitars? Absolutely not...are they great for people that need some inspiration? yes....im just tired of skeptics like you saying that people aren't legitimate and swaying people away from maybe taking a leap and trying something out....Im doing better and am trying to buy a piezo prs for $1549....ive played it and I've watched a ton of videos on KZbin about it....yes most are sponsored but im also smart enough to only follow youtubers i trust...I trust this one....if he sponsored a crap product he would lose more money than he was given....just be more positive bro.

Everyone says it’s so great for the money, but you can buy a Yamaha FS800 for $199. Orangewood doesn’t seem like a game changer to me.
@BeefheartLynch3 жыл бұрын
I own the Oliver Live from Orangewood. It is a concert size acoustic with a solid mahogany top, laminated mahogany back and sides. I've played the Yamaha FS800 many, many times. It is a fantastic guitar, solid spruce top, laminated back and sides. My opinion is between the two, I would pick the Orangewood in a shootout. To me, I prefer the mellower tone of the Oliver vs the brightness of the FS800, so your mileage may vary. Add what I consider a better build quality, although you can't go wrong with the Yamaha.

I have this guitar, too. I bought it on a whim because of all the folks raving about Orangewood. It's not bad for the money. The solid mahogany top makes the guitar. It's not a Martin or Gibson, but you can't get a Martin or Gibson for 175 bucks, either. My only gripe with the guitar is the bridge pins. They stick out of the holes nearly half an inch. I've never had a guitar with such poorly fitted pins. I contacted Orangewood about it and they said it was intentional so that it would be easy for novices to get them out when they changed strings! WTF?! I guess I'll find some cheap pins to replace the oversized Orangewood pins. All that aside, it's a good, inexpensive guitar.

Good video and tip on the importance of a good setup. I first saw this guitar in a video by the strumming master Tomo Fujita called Acoustic Guitar Strumming. It and his playing sounded out of this world. Watch that video if you want to hear this particular guitar sing like you've never heard it before. Tomo is the Berklee instructor that taught John Mayer. I thought for sure it was a $2000 Martin. I really like the inlay at the 12th fret too. That's how I recognized it. It just goes to show it's not about the guitar. If it's good enough for Mr. Fujuta it's definitely good enough for me. I find these smaller guitars sound even better when you can mic them or run them through an amp and crank up the base a bit. In the video it looks like tomo is using the LR bags anthem system which is excellent. That might be in part why it sounded so incredible. I played a $2500 Martin D18 last night that sounded like heaven.. But the size and comfort level was if for level was basically the opposite of heaven.. Fun for a few minutes but no more. This size guitar concert concert or grand auditorium is very comfortable to play.

Wow! Looks like something I should look at. I just retired and would like to learn to play. I bought a guitar well over 30 years ago but the neck was so big I couldn't get my hand around it and just gave up and got rid of it. Maybe it's a better time to check them out now as opposed to back then. Do you think you may have gotten a better than usual version of the guitar since it might have been hand picked for you to review?? II loved the look! I wouldn't know how to set one up, though. Thanks.

Took a gamble and ordered the orange wood Brooklyn … was already looking at ordering another model if this one went well but when I received my Brooklyn, the neck and headstock were twisted and the nut was sanded to fit the twist. Bizarre. Not sure how this passed inspection or the “professional” setup… needless to say I sent it back. No more orange wood for me. The response I got was, “but does it affect playability?” Lol
