The Dime Drop

The Dime Drop

6 жыл бұрын

The Dime Drop continues its deep dive series breaking down the potential lottery picks in the 2018 NBA Draft. Trae Young is a sharpshooting point guard from the University of Oklahoma, and is a likely top-10 pick. We break down his strengths, weaknesses and player comparisons.
Was he to blame for the issues at Oklahoma? Will Trae's game translate to the NBA? Disagree with our player comparisons? Let us know.

It's fun to come back to this vid. His crystal ball was on point. Although, we need more wing defense than rim protection. But Admittedly, I'm not in the know enough to detect if that's a product of our players or defensive strategy.

Trae has his detriments but the fact that he’s this good at shooting/scoring already as a freshman is a testament to his probable work ethic, so it’s fair to guess that he’ll probably continue to expand his game imo. If you’re drafting Young you’re doing so because you believe in his growth trajectory, not because you’re expecting a “win now” player.

Great vid but Steph was not a better finisher then Trae when he was a fresh at Davidson. Steph was basically a Reddick/Ray Allen off screen shooter. He didn't display Youngs ball handling or passing or even anything close to pro level PG skill til he was like a JR. Curry was quicker tho and more athletic but Young is actually much stronger with a better build at the same age. Youngs best fit imo is the Sixers who got the defenders to cover for him and also the passers to mitigate his need to make decisions and he can just shoot. But he should go top 5 imo.

Trae Young is probably the best offensive rookie and the worst rookie I have ever seen. Look away from the stats and just look at his offensive range and versatility and you'll see what I mean. The same applies for his defense. Even though he has active hands and reads plays to get steals, when it comes to playing any form of defense, individual or team, he's basically useless. How high is his ceiling? Honestly, with the right team around him probably an MVP candidate.

for such a "good shooter" those last 10-12 games of shooting 25% from 3 don't look too good... he scored 48 on 14-39 shooting. Sorry folks, but good shooters are a dime-a-dozen in the NBA. I'll be shocked if he turns into an above-average player and there is no way he won't be a defensive liability. He may fill some stat sheets, but the Hawks won't be winning many games. Just my opinion.
