Good analysis. I like the way you mentioned "Cavani" for workrate comparison. Osimhen is an excellent srriker that will explode if he moves to a bigger team.
@tombrady55874 ай бұрын
Ngl I found the analysis quite strange! The numbers were shown clearly whilst saying it's Cavani esque (4:26) - it clearly shows his pressing numbers are even worse than Kane in 23/24, not only in terms of defensive actions, but also significantly worse duel success rate. Even in 23/24 he had comparable numbers to Kane. For context, Kane is widely known as one of the worst defensive strikers in Europe. So, numbers show it couldn't be further from the truth!
@EdwardElfigo4 ай бұрын
@@tombrady5587 hence why the eye test is important, this season was a massive drop off for the entire Napoli team, but last season, watching their game, Osimhen was a menace defensively. Might even be a tactical issue where 23/24’s managers, like Mazzarri preference more of a mid lock/ low block defence , than the offensive aggressive possession based football Spalletti used to have.
@tombrady55874 ай бұрын
@@EdwardElfigo Yup, exactly. It's why eye test is important. It was obvious from the eye that Osimhen has technical deficiencies. It was also clear from stats that in his career Osimhen has only had 1 elite level goal scoring season. He has elite physical attributes, but clearly has limitations as well. Hence why I mentioned why he'll look a lot worse if not in the right system.
@EdwardElfigo4 ай бұрын
@@tombrady5587 those are clear, but technically every Napoli season he had was very good goal scoring wise, which somewhat highlights what is probably his biggest issue, aka his fitness. He missed large chunks of every single he had in Naples bar the title winning one, and he’s going to be missing in action every other winter due to AFCON too. I’m an avid Serie A watcher, and always thought his market valuation was grossly overrated due to both technical and fitness deficiencies, he’s still a great scorer though who has time to improve.
@tombrady55874 ай бұрын
@@EdwardElfigo Yup, his goals to game ratio has always been good, but he's had a lot of injuries. And yes, his market value is grossly overvalued. I said it a year before he signed that extension that his best bet to get out of Napoli is to run down his contract to 1 year. Whoever his agents are did a poor job thinking a 130m release clause was going to be triggered. Even Chelsea who have overpaid massively over the years have realised it's not worth it. In fact, when Napoli paid 80m all those years ago, Italian media thought it was sort of money laundering going as it was that much higher than it should have been. Talented player, with some great attributes and some poor. Had 1 elite season, and has ranged from average to good in seasons surrounding.

The good thing about Osimhen is that he always improves. He wasn't so swift when he played in the U17s (which he absolutely smashed, breaking the record for highest amount of goals scored), but he worked on it. If you watch him you can see that his ball control also improves with each season. A proper striker does not need to look pretty on the ball, he just needs be able to run with the ball and to score.

I wish Jackson have the same ball striking ability and aerial threat as Osimhen. I hope Chelsea will end up signing him because it'll give us a striker profile that we haven't had in ages. We need a striker who's good with his back to goal and to be able to link-up with the wingers. Chelsea need a striker who can get at the end of crosses and have an elite movement in the box which we severely lack. I see Osimhen as one of the best traditional strikers which is becoming increasingly rare in modern football now.

What I want to know is how much he can translate his game from Serie A to the Prem. It is constant issue when looking at stats that the level of physicality in those two leagues is so different. The obvious example is Lukaku. He's strong enough to be a menace in Serie A but he struggles so much to replicate this consistently in the Prem. In terms of squad fit, there is something to be said for Osimhen at Chelsea, in that Maresca's system produces chances to be converted by the striker and the two forward midfielders, so having a stronger finisher than Jackson would not be a bad thing. And Chelsea absolutely does have players that can hit passes in behind.

Lukaku has 115 prem goals. Age caught up to him. He managed to be a menace in both leagues. He’s just not as good as he once was.
@Monochromatic_Spider4 ай бұрын
@@samiroanya4085 Don't think that's entirely true. Lukaku isn't old enough to have grown weaker or slower, certainly wasn't when he had his one season back with us. It feels to me as if he's a good flat track bully but really struggles when counters are denied him and he can't just fling defenders out of the way. And he struggles with high tempo games. He's a big guy, he needs to pace himself to last for 90 minutes. Constantly being on the move, either to press or to open up a passing lane or to draw away defenders... That's not really him. It seems to me that while he's absolutely a quality striker in Serie A, he's also just not quite fit for purpose in the Prem, be it for Chelsea or for Man Utd. Which opens the door for the question: How do we know that other physical Serie A players won't have the same issue?
@johnappleseed81464 ай бұрын
@@Monochromatic_Spider lukakus last stint at inter when he came back from Chelsea wasn't good... He got benched for 40 year old dzeko in the UCL final... Also other strikers who moved from epl and went to serie a usually play at the same or even worse level (Tammy Abraham being a great example, despite English fans swearing he was destroying the league when he did not have more serie a goals than he ever had epl goals). if there's a league which historically has strikers suffer from physicality in other leagues it's bundesliga. Luka Jovic being a prime example but there's actually plenty more... It seems like serie a and the whole lukaku thing has ppl rewriting history like lukaku isn't on the all time epl leading goal scorer list.

The difference between both season can be explained away with different factors that affected not only him but the whole team. 22-23 allowed Napoli players to be overrated and last season was a regression to the mean. AFCON has been very troublesome for him which is weird given the talent level of that Nigerian team, his spells at prior situations are good, certainly not impressive. So I'm with that rating of 72, although I would not consider him world class. I think you should be more stingy with titles like generational, intergenerational or greatest ever. A world class player should be arguably the best in his position today, a generational or even intergenerational talent should be one that is all time level but because of deficiencies(either individually or on a team level) would not be GOAT level, think Pedri or Pirlo and a GOAT level should be who can have an argument as the best ever in his field, regardless of what is around him. As for the value needed for each, that can be debated.
