I've a strong feeling Zirkzee will bring players like Rashford and Ganarcho to life. We've been complaining our wingers aren't creative enough for our strikers, hence, Ten Hag bought a striker to compliment our wingers instead. I'm reckon Ten Hag will use Zirkzee in games where we do not control posession, with him and Bruno upfront, just like in the final few games of the season. Really creative purchase in my opinion.

Your take on United needing goal machines on the wings as well as hyper aggressive fullbacks is logical but isn’t the end all be all. Taking a look at his Bologna team for instance, where he thrived in the first place, the responsibility of occupying the spaces he vacated and coordination of making runs of of his deep dropping movements was shared among both the central players(especially Lewis Ferguson starting behind him) and wide players(while still keeping their width for the majority) which was facilitated by the fullbacks maintaining more defensive positions in possession while the CBs had more freedom to join the attack (more often Calafiori). How I see it, Zirkzee could be a key factor in reigniting Bruno’s goal scoring form of his first seasons at the PL rather than moving him deeper down the field (considering Mainoo’s behind him to handle the deeper phases). This could also be a very similar system to De Zerbi’s, or more recently, Arteta’s 4-2-4-0 double false 9 system which consisted of Havertz joining Odegaard in attacking midfield areas from CF in possession but with a different dynamic in terms of personnel.
@PythagorasinBoots5 ай бұрын
With the greatest of respect to Bologna, they only scored 54 goals last season and finished 5th in Serie A (a great achievement for them but nowhere near what is expected of a Man United). Those tactics wouldn't be enough to win a EPL, you would need superior personnel and more aggressive penetration to break down defences to the point where you can finish 1st.
@Preyinglol5 ай бұрын
I'm looking forward to seeing him in the prem and particularly how he will play with Hojlund "assuming they play together" as Rasmus looked very isolated and starved of service at times last season so Having Zirkzee playing off him and linking midfield to attack will be interesting to see how it effects the team as a whole. Totally agree with your comment about the current fullbacks at the club needing some more width and service if Ten Hag plans to persist with wide forwards like Rashford who don't really provide for Hojlund

Great video as always. Your analysis is the best on KZbin by a mile, the amount of detail is incredible. I’d really like to see a video like this on Joao Neves. I think he’d be United’s most important signing available, no matter the price. Zirkzee is great, especially for the price, but I have no idea how he fits in with Hojlund. Completely opposite profiles, as you said. Zirkzee needs goalscoring wingers, Hojlund needs creative wingers, and lots of crosses. They can’t rotate without completely changing the tactical system and players. This could work and add a lot of unpredictability, but only if one was older and more experienced. These are both young, raw talents, who will needs lots of support and game time to improve, so how will they rotate smoothly? They would work great in a front two, but I don’t see Ten Hag doing that. Hojlund is also very technically gifted, so I find it weird that he’d leave a player like him so isolated, when he used to often come deep and run the channels for Atalanta. He then looks for a false 9, without even giving Hojlund a chance of more freedom? I think Hojlund has even shown potential that he could be some form of false 9 himself. His technical attributes are way too good to be getting as few touches as he does, anyway. It’s like taking Zirkzee and playing him as if he’s Weghorst. It makes no sense.
@PythagorasinBoots5 ай бұрын
yeah it is a bit confusing to be honest. Gives us options but causes more problems in terms of creatig a system which caters for two totally different types of forward. One of them will need to be prioritised.

@@PythagorasinBoots Agreed. I think that’d be great if one of them was older, like I said previously, but idk how they’re gonna go about developing both at the same time while prioritising one of them for play style reasons. We’ll see tho, I’m sure they have their reasons.

I agree with just about all of this. Anderlecht had him on loan for a year, and he spent much of it playing in a 4-2-2-2 with Kouamé up front. Kouamé did all the chasing, aerial challenges and pressing and Zirkzee sort of floated about. He is very talented but was a bit of an underwhelming show pony for his year at Anderlecht who was more interested in nutmegging people than scoring. He is also ridiculously poor in the air for his size. I'd also argue that his weaknesses are more mental and attitudinal than technical. He could be awesome, but I suspect he won't be. I'd love to see RVN coach him in his weak areas and elevate his game as he can be very entertaining, but other than being Dutch and a forward, they couldn't be more different.

Another top video but honestly seems like another bizarre signing under ETH, a bit like Mount was last season. No idea where he's going to fit in and he's not experienced enough or an effective enough goalscorer to be a back up/mentor to Hojlund. All that said, I actually think we will look better with Zirkzee up front ahead of Hojlund. He is more of a Kane/Martial type player (comes deep, link up, hold up) and we had our best season in a decade in ETH's first year when we had that type of player up front (Marital and even Weghorst). Nothing against Hojlund but we simply don't cater to a traditional fox in the box type striker, hence him regularly going 90mins without a shot and getting minimal service all season.
