This video is about the legendary Arnold Palmer, his skill, lifestyle, success and his death. But leaving such a legacy isn’t a regular phenomenon, it takes a whole lot of time and effort to perfectly carve your skill and transform it into something that can make you irreplaceable. And Arnold Palmer perfectly fits the description.

He had a swing that did not lend itself to any longevity. Hence, he did not win much of anything after the age of 34.

Arnold has said many times he struck the ball better from 1965-1978 than when he was winning everything. In fact Arnold might be the best driver of the of wound ball with persimmon woods than any other player in history. His swing gave him incredible longevity it was his nerves that left him.

@@Jim_Harwood couldn’t have put it better myself. I don’t think he was ever the same after billy casper beat him in the 1966 US open

@@floridagolf2010 I saw him live at an exhibition in August 1971. The man was a bull , very powerful, and he couldnt have hit the ball any better; he just tore the cover off the ball.

This is simply not true. It is common knowledge that it was his putting touch that left him, not his swing which actually was better from his mid-thirties onward after he won his last major. His superior ball striking kept him in contention on tough US Open layouts through his mid 40s. Arnold could have won 7 US Opens between 1966 and 1975 with better putting (66,67,69,72 thru 75). Also lost the PGA twice during that time to superior putters, Boros and Stockton. He had the best weekend at Turnberry in the 1977 Open Championship of anyone not named Watson or Nicklaus. He led the 1983 Los Angeles Open after 64 holes at age 53 and was 1 shot behind the opening round leader at the Masters that year, in which he also made the cut in all 4 majors. Also opened the 1989 PGA Championship with a 68. Palmer's swing had plenty of longevity. He didn't win more majors because he couldn't putt well enough any more.

@@Jim_Harwood Exactly. Someone who knows his stuff. I followed Arnie for his entire 3rd round in the US Open at Baltusrol in 1980 when he went off first with a marker, then did the same with Nicklaus who was playing in the final group in the afternoon. To this day I tell people that I thought Arnie was a better driver of the golf ball than Jack. It's just that Jack could hit his approach shots sky high and hold them by the pin where Arnie's went in lower and scooted away. But most importantly, Arnie just could not get up and down when he missed a green to save his life. And I swear, he missed 6 to 8 putts of a dozen feet and less, including several under 6 feet.
