It’s still cheating and she has a responsibility to the field to play by the rules or accept the penalty. Since she finished the round and signed her score card incorrectly that could actually disqualify her. And as far as a fraction of an inch, if you play golf then you should know that that can be the difference in making and missing a short put. Why do you think players do it if it doesn’t help? And plenty of players do it, I know some who have made an art of it.

@ishrocc4489
@ishrocc4489 Жыл бұрын
@@zanierrules do you know golf? I’m pretty sure i do cuz ive been playing before i started walking. It is by rule a penalty, we can’t change that, but i doubt she did it on purpose and it would not affect her putt at all for a few reasons. 1. It was a very close putt, looked around 1-2 feet, an inch either way would not change the aimpoint and result of the putt, especially because it looked like a very flat putt 2. It was moved forward, not to the side, and due to the reason stated before, it would not change her aimpoint 3. Due to these reasons why would she intentionally make this action knowing it’s would be a a penalty on a random 2ft putt??? It would make no sense for her to change it just due to the fact that it doesn’t change how she plays the putt at all. One inch from that distance will not change how you should play that putt.

Paul Azinger got disqualified back in the early 90s at the Doral Open while on the lead when he accidentally caused a rock to move when hitting a mostly submerged ball out of a lake because some over zealous fan saw it on TV and called it in. He was DQed for signing an incorrect scorecard because the penalty was assessed the next morning. Using the same standard Tiger should have been disqualified from the Masters the year he took an illegal drop for signing an incorrect scorecard...but the Masters and PGA knew how much money they would miss out on if Tiger didn't play the weekend. But I agree 100% No other sport allows this.

The issue was that she placed the ball differently relative to her marker than when she picked it up to mark it. I've seen people put marker between the ball and the cup to pick it up, then when they replace the ball, they place the ball between the marker and the cup. They've moved one ball plus the marker closer to the cup. It's not a huge advantage, but it's not legal; however, it shouldn't be a 4-stroke penalty and viewers at home shouldn't be able to alert officials to the violation.

for the record, after that (and maybe some other similar call-in), NO call ins are allowed. If the situation isn't identified before the golfer signs their card, it's a non-issue. That is the problem with call-ins, the golfer is also penalized for signing an incorrect score. Not sure why Lexi wasn't DQ'd, so she caught a break there. No more call-ins from folks not at the golf course.

third party accounts of a fraction shouldn't be part of the rule placing a penalty on someone. what is needed is field and line judges watching every golfer in a tournament, like in "football". a judge has to actually see the rule break in action in order to penalize the player. it can be backed up on a replay camera, if they have one. what rule covers a golfer who while on the green uses his putter to "push" the ball by continuing contact with the putter and ball into the cup?

My bil plays golf every week and cheats at every hole, be it improving every lie, taking mulligans, moving ball from behind all obstacles or using the hand wedge to get out of sand traps. Still he manages to show off his score card and brags about how many birdies he’s made. Gives a hole by hole account of his best shots and tells of how he beat his other brother. They both equally cheat by the way, so in that sense it’s a fair game, as strange as that sounds. I can no longer play with them. It disheartens me.

I know a guy who plays golf with his Saturday foursome and one guy, who he was playing against, hit a long second shot into a short par 5, with the green severely elevated (blind shot). The other 2 golfers congratulated him on most likely landing it close to the stick. The “cheater guy” drove up to the green way ahead of everyone and threw the guys shot in the bunker and placed his own ball where the other was…2 ft from the cup. When the rest of the group got to the green, cheater guy said “you’re in the bunker and I’m here.” Everyone knew what must have happened, but no one said anything. smh.

"Intentional" or not it shouldn't matter, a cheat shot is still a cheat shot. Pros should be caught out on ALL cheat shots, and DQ'd for it from the match. They are Professional and should be expected to PAY ATTENTION to what is happening on the course and what they themselves are doing. You can give slack (once) to the amateur. The Pro ranks need to have cheaters eliminated from the pro game. All that said, Using the rules to your advantage is NOT cheating; take up any issues with the official rules themselves, maybe changes or clarifications are needed. While I can appreciate various opinions over what someone’s “intent” was, the facts are what they are: Using the rules in a manner which helps you isn’t cheating - that isn’t an opinion, it’s a fact. In the first example Mickelson new what the penalty was for what he was doing and simply decided it was worth it. Again, you can question whether or not THAT OUGHT to be the rule, but IT IS the rule and therefore it’s not cheating. It’s just using the rules to your advantage.

Breaking a rule is not the same as cheating. Mickelson broke a rule. He did it in front of God and everybody, admitted it and took the penalty. He made a calculated decision and accepted the consequences. Lexi made an honest mistake. We are not machines. There HAS TO BE a certain tolerance applied to marking and replacing a ball. She didn't move the ball out of a pitch mark, or from behind some obstacle or defect, she simply misplaced it by less than the diameter of the ball itself. It's also incomprehensible that the rules could have ever allowed a penalty for signing an incorrect scorecard when it was only incorrect due to changes by the officials AFTER SHE SIGNED IT. I'm very pleased that those rules were quickly changed.

Look, it’s a mute point on mickelson. If the rules say it’s a disqualification then that is what it is but it isn’t a disqualification. Mickelson smartly used the rules to his advantage. He broke the rule and paid the penalty that was in place for that infringement.

Reeds sand shot was the most blatant cheating ever. He switched up like four clubs after he moved the sand.

That Mickelson one was on a ridiculous hole and EVERYONE new it so he just did what everybody would've done at his point, he already had too many strokes over on that hole and was pretty much lost at that point..

Mickelson knew the rules. Not Cheating. Woods got clarification...not cheating (but really a boulder?) Reid got clarification of plugging. not cheating. unfortunate Mistake.

If you're gonna say Phil Mickelson "cheated" then you're gonna have to say that everyone who took a penalty to take a drop "cheated", lol.

It's a two shot penalty not a disqualification. No rule that says DQ if you intentionally break a rule, but if that's a rule than sure. Otherwise the penalty for the rule is what it is, not what people deemed fit.

No DQ for Mickelson. The 2 shot penalty is justified and fair. But it's not in the spirit of the game. Bad sportsmanship. And I like Phil.

Hater's hate,this is just another hater,I caddie the Shriners here in Vegas,we had Reed in our group, he's a nice guy,very friendly,very approachable,He looks you in the eye when he speaks,he also listens when you reply. Don't judge a man on some KZbin scumbags attempt to get views

Mickelson: Playing within the rules and reaping the consequences we you do break a rule is not grounds for disqualification. In this case it was smart.

Already knew it was Reed. The scumbag. And, taking advantage of a rule, is NOT cheating. Breaking a rule and taking a penalty, is not illegal. It's JUST breaking a rule.

Reed was 100% cheating in both instances!? U can't touch the sand at all until u r actually hitting the ball!? The club head cannot touch the sand at all until the actual shot is played and u can't touch the sand on the backswing...1st contact with sand has to be on downswing while hitting the ball!? It's pretty simple!? And the "embedded" ball was 100% cheating too cuz clearly that ball was never embedded! It was just buried down in the rough and he knew he wouldn't be able to make a good shot so he moved the ball, and probably pushed the ball into the ground to make a Lil depression to try to sell the "embedded" ball thing, but really I think either way he should've gotten a penalty for it cuz he didn't wait for officials to verify that his ball was in fact embedded so he should've been penalized cuz there's no way they could know for sure that ball was embedded and they shouldn't just take the players word for it!? And the depression they said was where his ball originally stopped was probably done by him while moving the ball..he probably pushed it into the ground to make the depression!? And I'd be willing to bet that the depression that was there wasn't deep enough to consider it embedded in the ground!? Clearly from replay u can see it was never embedded...it takes a bounce and then settles down in the deep rough, which would be a very difficult shot to make, and Reed clearly saw his ball was in a bad lie and he quickly moved it and claimed it was embedded!? Even if it was embedded he should've been penalized either way cuz he moved it b4 an official verified that it was in fact embedded!? If it was really embedded then he should've waited for officials to see it and tell him he could move the ball but he didn't do that cuz the ball wasn't embedded at all so he just figured he'd move it and claim it was embedded and I'd bet he made the depression they saw by pushing ball into the ground as he was going to pick it up and move it!?
