When I started playing tennis in high school, everyone wanted to play like Federer or Nadal. I always wanted to play like Nalbandian. Just beautifully simplistic, smooth, efficient, and effortless groundstrokes. Now I’m playing again, it’s great watching these videos and seeing Nalbandian finally getting some more recognition he deserves.

The draw he had in those two masters titles were insane. In addition to Djoko, Federer and Nadal, he also beat other slam champions like Del Potro and Murray. He was on fire during those weeks beating both Federer and Nadal two times in a row each.

It's the only player who could hit physics-defying short angles with both the crosscourt backhand and forehand as a consistent tactic, sometimes other players hit those too but for them it's an episodic high risk shot, with Nalbandian it was a routine shot. Immense talent.

Great video! However, to be a perfect review, a further analysis on Davis Cup performance had to be done. He was to Argentinian national team what Maradona was to Argentinian football team. Whenever he played Davis cup, we knew we had 1-2 ties in the pocket.

Very good video! Thanks for this. I am, however, fairly certain that you are wrong about his grip on the bakchand. I think it’s a weaker continental on the lower hand and closer to an eastern forehand on the top (Like Djokovic) :-)

Lets say it this way: he didn't win the titles his talent deserved but his best matches are at the highest tennis level you'll ever see. His last match against Hewitt in Australia was epic for both players. In Davis Cup he had GREAT matches (Hrbaty, Safin). Even some of the great matches he lost were still filled with magic.

I was a huge fan of Nalbandian’s game. He was able to use every shot in the book and was a great tactician. For me, he is the best technical player not to win a major (at least in his era). I think that his conditioning and serve were the main things that held him back from being a more consistent threat and from winning majors.

Cuando Roger Federer vino a Argentina un periodista le preguntó ¿a quién era más difícil ganarle, a Del Potro o a Nalbandian?. Respuesta: a Del Potro.

Great review mate. I missed a little more relevant segment about Davis Cup. It was his courtyard, he dominated almost any player no matter where the series were played. For a long time, for us argentine it was about getting one extra point to win, because David was to take his 2 singles regardless of whom he was playing against 😂. Anyway, Nalbandian had the talent, we all knew it back in the time, but he himself confessed that he was uncapable of showing the continuous intensity and drive of Nadal, Federer, Nole or even Murray, Delpo and others. He needed some off-time, he had some issues with injuries and his retirement had origin in serious hip hurt. As much as we liked his game, clearly he hadnt what it takes, at least not all of it.

Davydenko also gets mentioned frequently as the other player who could challenge the top guys and its true, even their style is kind of the same only when it comes to the execution Davydenko is all mechanical, Nalby is all natural&effortless. Davydenko put countless of hours of work, if Nalby trained as hard he would have 10 slams easy

Those who watch tennis know how good Nalbandian was, unlike dimwitted djokovic cultists who dont watch the sport... lets just say Nalbandian manage to defeat Federer in 2005 atp world tour finals... only reason why Nalbandian is not multiple grand slam champion is because he had missfortune going up against The Greatest Player Ever in his prime, and there are several other great players who got denied from ultimate prize being world number 1, Philipussies, Blake, Baghdatis, these men would destroy competition in todays tennis.
