I'm a huge Frank Shamrock fan...but the first modern well rounded MMA guy was Marco Ruas. Frank's genius is that he was both the world class well rounded champion athlete AND HE AND HIS TEAM WORKED OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME THE PROPER WAY TO TRAIN FOR NHB AND MMA. This? Was absolutely everything. Everyone...including Ruas and Ken Shamrock...was trying to crack the "well rounded MMA athlete training code"...but Frank and The Alliance...with Maurice Smith and the Japanese killer T.K. Tsuyoshi Kosaka...did it first. The man was a training innovator and genius in every regard including nutrition [ which he modified from bodybuilding and pro sports ], a marketing maven, authentic groundbreaking well rounded MMA champion, etc.

@@laubachm11he was on roids AND undersized in Japan, and was on roids in some if not all of his early UFC matches. Back then it was NHB transitioning to MMA, so it was crazy Wild Wild West stuff. Everyone who could afford it was on roids because roids wasn't illegal for competition back then.

Frank was definitely the better one. Ken had a great ground game but Frank actually could compete with the late 90s early to mid 2000s actual like mma. Before hand when Ken was on top it was much more one style vs the other but frank generally had both good stand up and obviously a great ground and submission game. Hence why he could compete with a lot of the more minder ufc fighters of the 2000s

Oh yeah, I watch the Cung Le fight live. It was a vicious roundhouse kick that broke Franks arm. Frank was blocking the kick when it landed about mid-bicep. It was a clean break of the humerus bone. That kick, oohhhff! Not only did it land hard but it looked the part. That why Cung Le was known for his kicks. Some fighters could throw a one hitter quitter punch, but Le was throwing those one hitter killer, kicks. Thanks so much for a really entertaining and informative video. Love the content! Couple of suggestions/ideas: Could you put a little win-loss-draw counter at the bottom of the videos? That updates as you move through their history? It’d be cool to easily tell during a given moment what the fighter’s record was at the time. Likewise, could you put a date on the fights as you recap? Also, an idea for a video series that I would love to see from KK is a history of the belts, the fights that founded them, and then each title match. It would be awesome to see the evolution of a weight class through the history of its champions. Wonderful, insightful commentary and history, Kiiyon. Thank you for your content.

Watching these back to back I feel like Frank's resume reads more impressive than Ken's. Ken can't be blamed for making 10x more as a mid card wrestler than he could in MMA, but I believe the "Superfight" belt Ken won isn't the same as if he had stayed in for another couple of years and been the actual heavyweight champ. We also could have seen if he would have been competitive in his prime against Randy Coture.

Ppl don't know what this man went threw as a child and threw out his youth. And was able to turn it all around. It is incredible. Then being shunned from the family that took you in and having no one in corner yet again. Still accomplishing what he has in his career. He is a pure warrior. The fact that he isn't in the hall of fame is down right despicable.

Dude, of all the videos you've made, I like this one the best because it was about someone few viewers probably know much about. Frank Shamrock was epic in his rise, and then win against then big mouth asshole Tito Ortiz, and Wow! What an upset it was. Add that to the unbelievably abusive childhood Frank suffered, and it makes it even more epic. I'm glad you made this video and called out the UFC for not having him in their Hall of Fame. Kudos!

One of my all-time favorites. Always under appreciated. So well-rounded, exciting, and great on the mic. He would be mega-huge today. His later career -- though he still racked up some great wins -- was hampered with an accumulation of injuries. He couldn't shoot as well anymore, which was the most dangerous part of his game. Look up the video where he submitted Dan Henderson, as an example.

I gained mad respect for Frank when I recently watched a video biography of him. If you take away his athletic accomplishments he will still be a goat of a man for for his life accomplishments beyond the sport. Not only is Frank a great ambassador of the sport of MMA he is a great motivational speaker who speaks from experience of life’s tribulations. It is a short video but well worth the time.

Frank never decided to retire after the Tito fight. He had a retirement clause in his contract so by publically announcing his retirement he nullified his UFC contract. Also he did commentary while he was champion. He actually commentated at UFC 17 when he fought Horn. The UFC didn't air the fight though and saved it for a rerun pay for view A Night of Champions instead. As far as Franks greatness in the UFC, he far surpassed Ken in accomplishment, sadly not in popularity. Frank was champion when the sport was still in the NHB phase and had Sen John McCain trying to get it banned in the US. Ken had left for WWF(now WWE) when McCain started his crusade against the UFC which greatly increased his popularity and lent itself to some revisionist history about Kens early stint in the UFC as he reinvented himself as the worlds most dangerous man. Ken never won a UFC tournament, and yet he is from the tournament era. Ken benefitted greatly from his look. Ken looked like what people thought a tough guy should look like. Thats why there was enough interest in a second Ken and Royce fight that the UFC created the "superfight", their first non tournament fight. It certainly wasn't because the first fight was competitive, it wasn't. And it wasn't because Ken and Royce were both UFC champions. Royce was 3x champion while Ken had lost in his first tournament attempt and injured out in his second. Also worth nothing he injured out in his last UFC tournament. Kens biggest accomplishment in the UFC is beating a green Dan Severn.

Thanks a lot Kiiyon for making this video! I have been a fan of both Shamrock brothers tho mostly Frank's after a couple of Ken's stupid ordeals! That being said I didn't know that Frank was adopted, honestly I thought he and Ken looked a lot alike anyway I agree 100% that Frank Shamrock should be in the Hall of Fame honestly if anyone's in there why not Frank though I don't keep up with the Hall of Fame members but if his brother Ken is in it after the bullshit he's pulled and Frank isn't then maybe it's time that the fans of MMA do something about it I think if we all decided to not purchase anymore pay per views or tickets to fights maybe just maybe those in charge would understand exactly who it is that really gets to say who's in and who isn't because Frank Shamrock 1000000% deserves to be in the Hall of Fame
